What about the taxes? Are you still a tax resident in Colombia if you stay longer than 180 days and how much would the taxes be? If the company is outside Colombia it would be cool to have the tax advantages I have at the moment

You don't have to leave and re-enter after 90 days on a tourist visa. You can just apply for a 90 day extension.

Uff forgot to touch on that. Having personal health insurance is a requirement to get approved. I got an international health insurance plan but to my understanding it can also be an employer sponsored plan. Caveat is that the duration for which your Visa gets approved won't be longer than your health insurance coverage term.

Hi Johnny, I'm currently in Colombia on a tourist visa and want to apply for a digital nomad visa. The agency I contacted told me that migracion colombia doesn't accept applications from someone who's already in the country on a tourist visa so I have to return to my country to apply. Do you have any insight info on this? Thx

I'd get in contact with a Colombian lawyer. The application process varies based on nationality and how many days you have left on your Tourist Visa.

Great Video! I have a Quick Question. Do we get TRC (Temporary Residence perm) after coming to Colombia? I like to travel a lot. If we got TRC, Can we apply for other country Visas from Colombia.

Are you a US citizen? If so you'll get issued a tourist Visa upon arrival to Colombia. In regards to applying for other country Visas, it's typically easier to go through the process from within the country you're interested in.

If you're a US citizen living in Colombia for more than 183 days of the year look into the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion clause. I'm working with an accountant since my LLC is incorporated in the states but this is one of the more common options used by digital nomads to avoid double taxation.

Yes you can still apply. You'll have to show proof of your income and/or tax return.

You can stay for as long as the approved stay of the Visa. Let's imagine you get approved for 1 year. As long as you renew your Visa before the expiry date you won't have to step out and come back.

@@johnnyrsm How's the crime situation over there? I watched videos of people telling horror stories. Colombia seems like a nice country except for the crime issues.

@@Adam-nw1vy Like all places it has good areas and bad areas. I've bounced between Medellin, Bogota and Cartagena and basic street smarts will save you from most problems. Border towns in my experience tend to be prone to more random crime. Cities are pretty safe as long as you don't wander into sketchy areas while drunk or looking like a target.
