I'm here in Colombia and married.. But i still have to apply for my migrant visa yearly. New documents being required this year... And a week to get them otherwise pay for the visa study again and wait a month to hear a new response. So many annoyances here. I just want to buy a nice cheaper house and raise a family. My Spanish is definitely lacking so I'm worried about applying for residency in the future taking these tests in Spanish. Well anyways thank you for the video with Alan he's a great source of information.

hello, did you do a prenup ? I love my wife but I'm not colombian. I consider doing some investment (I will solo pay), in case one day we divorce, will I lose everything ?
@mitchel2443Ай бұрын
@@Loutripe I personally did do a prenup, which was signed in as we got married. If you didn't do this, yes in the case of a divorce your investments would be split 50/50. I would recommend keeping your money close, and possibly another wife with prenup.

I think Alan mis spoke at 16:35 when he said you could get residency with a Common Law marriage after 5 years, the new rules downgraded the Union de hecho to a 1 year V visa and the V does not offer any path to R. Only the M visa gives you an accumulated time path to the R visa.

Great to hear directly from an attorney there. I've been researching the new changes. 1 thing I'm curious is under this migrant visa by purchasing property, can an investor open a bank account in Colombia?
@TheWanderingInvestor Жыл бұрын
Theoretically yes, but it’s extremely hard and generally not worth it. Stick to an account with a brokerage firm. They work well for donestic wires.

If you have been married in the U.S. to a Colombian citizen and have 3 children who are Colombian citizens. If it best to get Colombian residency through the children or spouse? Also, did you say that you have come to Colombia every 6 months for 2 or 3 years to obtain citizenship?

Good video and information. Thanks gentlemen. Can the said property bought for getting residency be rented out to generate some return on investment without triggering tax residency? The question is really about taxation on local vs worldwide income
@TheWanderingInvestor Жыл бұрын
Thanks. Residency does not trigger tax residency. You need to stay there a lot to become a tax resident. Yes, you can rent out the property.
@soundslight7754 Жыл бұрын
@@TheWanderingInvestor Yes, having residency doesn't trigger tax residency but I asked about local income? Does a mere unearned rental income trigger tax on worldwide income?

Colombia use to have a beautiful investment visa if your brought a property you got a five year visa then after five years you get residency it was beautiful. President Petro ruined that visa because he dislikes foreigners

Why countries intentionally make it more difficult to obtain citizenship even if someone has money and not a criminal? Colombia accepts millions of Venezuelans but they dont want anyone with money to become citizen. I just don't understand this. And its not only Colombia who does this.

Am I missing something? You've said that you can both hold a Migrant visa AND avoid tax residency in Colombia, but you've also said that to hold and maintain the Migrant visa you have to reside in Colombia for more than six months every year? Doesn't that mean that tax residency IS mandatory if you want to keep your M visa? thanks
@TheWanderingInvestor8 ай бұрын
That’s not what was said “you cannot leave for more than 6 months at a time”. Technically you can simply come back every 6 months. Speak to a local CPA for tax advise.
