Thanks again as always for the great info. It can be super scary, but I find, once this type of life becomes your passion, it seems terrifying not to do it. OMG girl, you are soooo inspirational! I just got to know you a week ago and I am already addicted to your channel :D Me and my boyfriend are moving to South East Asia in October so at the moment we are saving like crazy to be able to live there for one year haha As you did, our plan is during that time generate online income from different sources (I can already make it as I am a Spanish translator but I would also like to start my blog, I am planning different courses and so on...) so we are going to give it a try! It's crazy how many useful ideas come to your mind when you start learning and taking action! Thank you for doing these videos, I am sure you are going to help many people :) Best wishes from Barcelona! (for the moment :P hehe)

@MicahBuzanANIMATION7 жыл бұрын
I think everyone has to follow their own path. Life is a gift and I think there's no one "right" way to go about living it. At the moment I'm getting inspired to give the digital nomad thing a test run at the very least! My current work is as a freelance animator. Since my work is location independent, it seems like it would make more financial sense to work from Thailand rather than the U.S. I don't really want to own a car or house or any of that stuff. As long as I can be self-sufficient off animation, I'm happy!

It was really interesting that you mentioned courses! I've not purchased any courses yet as I think there's a whole lot of information out there for free when you are just starting out and finding your skills. But I will definitely purchase a well researched one if I feel I want to learn something more specialized :) I'm definitely interested in selling courses once I am more experienced :)
@digitalnomadgirl7 жыл бұрын
Yep totally agree. I am a bit toooo thrifty so I normally need to force myself into investing in things - but I think there's definitely a healthy balance. Putting in the hard work to do research is much better than just trying to pay for the problem to go away if you haven't looked into options properly. And yeah definitely look into making videos in future :) Always happy to help out if you want tips! And got a badass Udemy video coming on Tuesday that you'll probably find very useful :D

Very true - hadn't really thought about that! I definitely think nothing in life (e.g. changing job, moving city) needs to be a huge scary decision. Just have savings to back to you up and go for it :D You can always come running back to your old life if you need to!
@marieaustin107 жыл бұрын
Really brilliant video and great tips! :D I did similar to you suggested. Although I am selling everything and going from the beginning... We are storing some key items at Andy's parents for when we eventually return to the UK. And I gave myself 4 months from quitting my job to moving so that I had 4 months to find online work and get some money coming in :) I definitely agree about having savings! I think everyone should have savings regardless of their living style... As it's always good to be prepared for an emergency :) We saved enough for 6 months of expenses in Europe. Although we shouldn't need to use it... I feel much better knowing we have that savings.
@digitalnomadgirl7 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! Yep I definitely agree that a few months of "rainy day fund" or "f**k off fund" is always wise life advice! Without it I definitely wouldn't be where I am today :) So impressed you sold everything - brave girl! Seems like you guys have really thought everything well and been very smart :) Are you in Berlin now??
@marieaustin107 жыл бұрын
Haha, for us we really had no choice though. We have lived on our own out of our parents house for around 5 years. So we had an entire house load of furniture and things that we couldn't keep if we wanted to travel. We could keep a few sentimental small items in storage with family... But anything big needed to go! :P We couldn't possibly afford to keep renting a place back in the UK or even to rent a storage container (those things are expensive!!) haha. So we literally had no sell it all or not do it :P But if we had still been living at home and didn't have much stuff we would have taken a less risky option. I guess this puts us under the pressure to just do it though now. No going back :P We're not in Berlin anymore, currently back in the UK selling the last items. The house tenancy ends on the 21st April to on that day we will be officially 'homeless' so we will be flying out and being full time nomads from that date :)

Where would you advise to go first as a DN (from UK)? Sun, sea, internet and cheaper living? Thank you!! :)
@digitalnomadgirl7 жыл бұрын
Definitely Chiang Mai if you don't mind not being by the ocean. Otherwise Bali is a good choice (Canggu is very popular with nomads) or one of the Thai islands like Koh Lanta (our favourite) or Koh Phangan (more parties). Or in Europe there are a few options like Spain or Portugal - not as cheap but closer to home. Where are you thinking at the moment?

Yeah totally - scary, exciting, happy, sad - all the feels!! I'd doubly recommend SEA if you're alone - it's very good for women, safe, and lots of solo female travellers there (well there's never LOTS but there's a decent ratio compared to other countries! haha). I've never travelled alone but I've always thought it's a good thing to do. Have you?

@digitalnomadgirl7 жыл бұрын
Yeah so true! We normally spend about a week getting set up - gym membership etc and then try to get back into it properly. We also sometimes set aside time to "travel" so that when we arrive in a new place meaning we can throw ourselves into work afterwards without feeling like we are missing out on travel. Sounds like you're having an amazing time though!!

@antoinepaine80977 жыл бұрын
I am I'm in year 13 about to do my a2 exams :) and I'm just really looking for alternative ways to live because we only have 1 existence and why not just go for it. I'm going to university afterwards but I'm looking to have something out there at the same time :) did you study at university if you don't mind me asking? :)
@digitalnomadgirl7 жыл бұрын
Cool! That sounds like a great plan :) I did indeed go to University - at that point I had no idea nomad life was an option and was actually dreaming of a hot shot corporate job! I loved University and I'm really glad I went (even though I don't use much of the specific techniques I learnt). I think it improves your writing, presentation skills, and confidence... not to mention all the great contacts I made. I also chose a course that did two work placements (one of which I did abroad), and a semester of study abroad. In my opinion features like that are more important than the topic of what you learn, or the name of the university. Hope that helps!!

Hi @Digital Nomad Girl ! Thanks for your video! :) I have some questions for you: You started your digital nomad venture with your boyfriend... The only thing that both scares me and excites me is to travel alone. Do you know how solo nomads start off their journey? Do they choose a specific place where lots of nomads hang/work together for example? What places did you meet most of your new nomad friends? Do you recommend me to rent something seperate or together with other people? I really love to surround myself with people, but I also enjoy my privacy and to be alone at times. Would love to hear your insights! ;)
@digitalnomadgirl6 жыл бұрын
Hey! Yeah there are a ton of single nomads so I think you'll be absolutely fine :) check out Nomad List for a great guide to which cities nomads are loving. Chiang Mai is always a good bet too. If you go along to a cowork and events you'll soon have more social appointments than you can handle! The best thing is that everyone eats out for all their meals so there's a lot more evening activities to join in with than in London where everyone goes home. There are also a few joint living spaces that might be good for you - but totally not necessary :)

Hi, I'm going to study graphic design. In your opinion, is it a profitable way to gain money and will I be able to become a nomad by doing that? :) I know, its a must to have few income resources, but have you heard some success stories about graphic designers? :)) P.S. Love your videos, you're wonderful!
@digitalnomadgirl7 жыл бұрын
Awww you're so so kind!! Yes I think graphic design is a very proven nomad plan :) Of course it's active income rather than passive (see my other recent video about that) but it's always in demand :) When do you start your studies?

I'm so happy you answered so soon!:) I will graduate from schoo in 6 weeks from now and my studies will start in autumn. First I need to pass the exam to get there so I hope I will 😅
@digitalnomadgirl7 жыл бұрын
Wow - that's so soon! I'm sure you will :D Sounds like you've got a great plan in place. The main thing with graphic design is to try and build up a portfolio while you're studying so that you don't have to do any unpaid work after you graduate! You got this :D

My idea to become a "digital nomad" isn't typical. I plan on saving a couple hundred thousand dollars. This would be enough to give me 1k a month or more returns. Then I could focus full time as a "retiree" on KZbin. Any other kind of low input money making ideas? The stock photos idea from one of your other videos really caught my eye. I wouldn't need much just a hundred a month would drastically increase my quality of life and it wouldn't matter how long it took to build up. So yea any low time input low output completely passive ideas?
@digitalnomadgirl7 жыл бұрын
Hey Larry. Gosh - I've never heard of that plan before! How will you save a few hundred thousand? Do you already have a very high paying job? Would be fab if you could save that much! Most passive income requires significant input at the start (I guess nothing in life is free!!) - I suppose the easiest of all is outsourcing - e.g. coming up with kindle book ideas, or things to sell on Shopify - but then getting other people to actually do the legwork (and you pay them). If you don't invest time you'll have to invest money though! Hope that helps :)
@Falcodrin7 жыл бұрын
Digital Nomad Girl I have yet to graduate and get a job but by my math, living frugally and saving most of my income I could be ready in 8 years with an income of 44k a year or 13 years with an income of 32k a year. All I need is about 400k to live on 3% and keep my investment growing slowly on its own. In my IT field the median pay for the entry level job is 38k and as an admin its much higher. I'm looking into stock photography since that's a small hobby of mine and there is always the possibility of getting my employer wherever I get a job to let me work as a remote phone tech for a massive pay cut. Lower pay always seems to make employers listen 😉. I tried shopify but there is always the worry of customer service and possible bad products from China. I hope to be out of the rat race before I work myself to death so wish me luck!
@digitalnomadgirl7 жыл бұрын
Good luck indeed!! The hardest part will be resisting spending that income - most people just adapt their life to fill their budget. Will be great if you can avoid that and save up a lot where others waste it! Keep me updated :)

I guess the reason why people are scared about becoming digital nomads is the fact that we don't know how to deal with our online income. My friend makes some 800€ a month in udemy, selling t-shirts and e-books online etc. but as an entrepreneur in Germany she has to pay her taxes to Germany and can't get a working visa outside the EU without officially moving her company there. That's possible but amazingly expensive.
@digitalnomadgirl7 жыл бұрын
Very true. Visas are an endless problem as you're normally not eligible for a tourist visa OR a working visa (because you don't have an employer in that country). Tricky stuff!
