A Psych Nurse

n this video, I share my personal experience interacting with a patient named Mike who was exhibiting angry and destructive behavior while in a psychiatric unit. I discuss how I tried to manage his behavior with medication and de-escalation techniques, but ultimately had to call the police to intervene. I reflect on my own feelings of anger and desire to physically confront the patient, and note that there may be some personal work I need to do to address these emotions. I also criticize the layout of our hospital unit, which I feel is not well-suited to managing aggressive patients.

I think you’re a savior for troubled patients. What a hard job. I think it’s hard to deal with a brother, but he lives with my mom, so I’m not in his presence. I only have to handle his outbursts when I call my mom. (He has outbursts all the time for no reason apparent to anyone but him.) But imagine working with people like that all day / night. I couldn’t imagine. Thank you for all you do. You must live in a constant state of “edgy stress” having to work in a situation like that.

Here is the cheat code. If i can literally just sit around basking in my own happiness and love and self-satisfaction then that short-circuits all of life. That's the genius of this method. That's its power. You think this is a bug. This is not a bug. This is a feature. This is exactly what you want. You want to short circuit that because you see then it frees you up.

I'm not sure if you have already made a video like this but could you maybe make a video of how de-escalating verbally works with violent patients?

All places have protocol for this. Generally you notify the provider and follow their instructions, notify the patient, and write an incident report :)

Like you start to experience orgasmic levels of ecstasy. Imagine the best orgasm you've ever had and then multiply it by a thousand. You realize that caring about anything at all is completely idiotic. From the highest perspective if you realize that everything is love then that's it. Anything that happens is absolute love and nothing could be better. Everything is absolutely perfect.

I'm going to shower you with attention and my awareness. I'm going to give you a lot of my time. I'm going to be in physical proximity to you. I'm going to touch you, hold you, cuddle you. I'm going to try to connect with you physically, emotionally, intellectually, spiritually. I'm going to take good care of you. I'm going to care about your needs. I'm going to help you to meet your needs. I'm going to help you to survive. I'm going to shelter you from excessive suffering, fear and trauma. I'm going to have your back. I'm going to defend you and be loyal to you. I'm going to take on your agenda as my own. I'm going to make you an extension of me. I'm going to treat you as well as i would treat myself. I'm going to be happy for you when you succeed. I'm going to want for you what you most want for yourself. I'm going to sacrifice for you and work on your behalf. I'm going to support you nurture you and encourage you. I'm going to cheerlead you. I'm going to encourage your self-exploration, self-expression and self-actualization. I'm going to respect your sovereignty as a consciousness. I'm not going to try to manipulate you, control you, dominate you or exploit you. I'm going to totally accept you and never judge you. I'm going to value you for your sake and appreciate you and see your intrinsic beauty. I'm not going to need anything from you and I'm not going to make you a tool to satisfy my own needs. I'm going to respect your point of view, wanting to understand your point of view, wanting to understand you, your uniqueness, taking the time to deeply get to know you. I'm not going to force my agenda or point of view on you. I'm going to listen to you and care about your interests and share similar interests with you. I'm going to develop togetherness with you and collaborate with you. I'm going to be there for you when you're down and hopeless. I'm going to be there for you when you're lonely. I'm going to validate your feelings, sharing your emotions with you, empathizing with you. Your pain is going to be my pain. I'm going to meet you where you're at, at your developmental level. I'm going to forgive you for your mistakes. I'm going to be patient with you. I'm going to see the good in you even when you don't see the good in yourself. I'm going to be generous and kind. I'm going to give you verbal approval and praise. I'm going to compliment you on your uniqueness. I'm going to keep my promises to you. I'm going to keep my peace with you, avoid conflict with you. I'm going to tell the truth to you. You're going to be able to fully trust me and I'm never going to cash in on that trust. I'm going to see your realness, warts and shadow and all as you truly are. I'm going to deeply appreciate the finite portion of consciousness that you are and I'm going to accept your selfishness whenever you have the urge to be selfish. Now ask yourself on a scale of 0 to 10 how loved do you feel? Open Your Eyes. 😂🦘🦘🧨

@@A_Psych_Nurse I would be the opposite side I would have been the patient I have CPTSD you as a caregiver put yourself also in the patient's shoes you said he was acting different with different staff would it have being because they were women or was it because they were talking to him different without being aggressive I can only go off the story you was telling I was not there if the patient was listening to them because they treated him different than yourself you should spend time with them to learn from them It's also amazing for putting up videos for awareness for mental health

@@A_Psych_Nurse honestly, other than listening and redirecting, I'm not sure what else could have been done to deescalate the situation. Sometimes there aren't any good solutions.

ive been a patien before many times 10 plus imes ive been in a ward or hospital ward,i was angry and i got strapped to a bed a few times, my suggestion is you should utilize sympathy and communication with your patients talk to them ask them personal questions about their life or even about how btheir day or morning is going you have to pull them out of the matrix they are consumed by and a simple good conversation about anything can help you could tell themabout your day it would help also
