These are simply my thoughts on Academic background at work vs experience at work (please correct me if you believe I’m wrong, I’m open to learning). I took time to think and ponder about this. Getting to the workplace after being in school for a long time gave me a certain perspective.
I usually ask myself, was it worth it?
School or no school, the “school vs experience” debate is about perspective and unity. We are all playing different positions on a football pitch/field or basketball court. We are all equally important. We need each other.
The important thing I’ve learned is to work on your strengths. It helps your team.
There’s a certain charisma for those who have an extensive educational background. The same is completely true for those with a lot of talent or experience.
Some of us (including me) had to go to school because of our family background. Education is essential to my family, so I took it seriously. Others needed to do it for immigration purposes.
Regardless of the position, you play in the workplace. Please don’t look down on anyone. Don’t look down on each other.
Take time to notice what your team members bring to the table and applaud them for it. It helps them perform more. I’m very grateful for my team.
