Hi Vera, Thank you for visiting our country kenya, Kenyans are your cousins, and they love visitors. In Kenya we use reusable bags in the whole country. Using plastic bags can send you to prison for some years. Another is about security in the airport, due to incidents of terrorism in the country, like the one we had in Westgate mall where many people died,security is tight in mos areas in Kenya, You had to leave the vehicle so that it can go through scanning machines to prevent bombs being sneaked inside the airport premises. All in all it is meant to protect you. We look forward to welcome you again.

3 days ago the minister of education said schools will be ranked based on the number of trees in their compound. Rent in Kenya you cannot afford to pay a year in advance. You always carry a shopping bag or buy one that is biodegradable as you shop which can be an expensive habit

The friendly police aspect in my opinion and as you rightly put it is the fact that Kenya being a touristic hotspot, people skills are very vital even by the police. Granted, police everywhere don't have a good reputation even in Kenya. The Kenya Police Service is subdivided into several units to handle different aspects of human interactions. Apart from the general patrol and traffic police units, there are; Tourism Police, Diplomatic Police, Airport Police,Railway Police, Port Police Units with specialized skills to cater to those segments of society and operations. As such, you are likely to encounter more friendlier police at the airport unit than may be those from the traffic unit for obvious reasons.

I think most Kenyans are used to paying monthly. Rent in Nairobi is very expensive for you to pay yearly/annually with a deposit. Paying monthly also allows someone to change houses with ease when the need arises.

As an aged person i dont ever recall ever paying rent annually. Its never happened in Kenya. We get paid monthly and thereofe budget our expenses on a monthly basis. Its the norm here. Also our rent is on the higher side. An annual rental may seem overwhelming for most of us. Also what happens if you want to leave mid year, do you forego your rent for the remaining part of the year? In terms of plastic bags we havent used those for years throughout the country. We have also gone cashless though you can still use money but not so frequent

Wow! Thank you for visiting our country and welcome again! Hearing someone speak so positively of my country almost made me emotional! We are a great country and we will keep rising higher and higher. The extra security measures were necessitated by the heinous acts of terrorism that we had faced in the past. We use reusable non-plastic bags as the plastic bags are prohibited by our National Environment Management Authority (NEMA); it is actually a offense worth prosecution in court which could attract a hefty penalty/fine. I am shocked that you guys in Nigeria pay rent annually! Wow!

Cops do that to ensure you know about your channel and not faking it. This is refreshing to see someone praising our hood.

Thank you for visiting Kenya, for that I have subscribed. 1. Being friendly and nice is our number one weakness as Kenyans 2. In Kenya cashless transactions are taking over especially Mobile money is used to the last village.

Kenya's geolocation is very unique in that most of our neighbours are not politically stable or are in war. We have also been victims of terrorist attacks and with that we take our security very seriously especially in places that may be targets e.g.Malls, Airports, Government buildings etc...hence the reason for the extra security measures. Plastic bags are actually prohibited.
@elizabethiradukunda1950 Жыл бұрын
@ 9.20 the reason why there is a security check outside the airport is because the vehicles and your luggage is scanned for explosives and anything suspicious. so those vehicles are actually passing through a scanner.. sort of like an x ray for vehicles

Nice to see you again vera frank! Kenya is a beautiful country,they have a government, unlike the looters called government in Nigeria. I think monthly rent is actually better than annually for economic reasons..The uk is right hand drive and we drive on the right side of the road like in kenya..With all the insecurity in Nigeria, l am still surprised anyone,even someone that is not travelling can just walk or drive into airports in Nigeria. At least kenyans are pro active,taking measures against terrorist unlike Nigerian government. Thank you!
@likatalikata3823 Жыл бұрын
Nigeria also used to drive on the left due to their former colonial masters but somewhere along the way they changed. Most former UK colonies drive on the left.

Thank you Vera for such insight on Kenya. I Iove the video, your fluent English and your beautiful face but it will make more sense to show more footage of the environment. It will be better if you can talk in public spaces and engage the locals in conversation because you have a very good presenting skill. I am a documentary photographer and thought to share this with you if they will be helpful. I am already subscribed so I hope to see more. Thanks

Welcome back to Kenya. Love your articulation. One can't even detect you are Nigerian. Kenyan suffered terrorism attacks before offshoot of AlQaeda based in Somalia called Al shabab & this made the Country take security more seriously. It easy to detect harm/risk at the gate of the airport & diffuse the risk than whilst inside the airport and cause harm.

There is nothing wrong with a Nigerian accent or articulation . It is low self esteem to assume a good articulation should not sound African .

The security cheque outside JKIA was added to enhance security following terrorist threats in the last 10 years or so...Threats are 'neutralized' before you even access the airport. Quite effective, in my opinion.

I love to hear your great experience in Kenya, I may explain that the security checks as you get to the airport is necessitated by the past security threats in the country.

About the "going cashless" Kenya is not thinking of going cashless, we have been cashless formore than a decade and everyone here accepts mobile money including the government. Paying rent monthly is advantageous because you can only judge an estate/house and its management after living in it for a few months, also you might get a new job in a different city or theft can occur in the house/area forcing you to move; monthly payments make it flexible for any such unforeseen situations, but you can still pay annually if you so wish... great video non-the-less :)

@lifehacks1019 Жыл бұрын
Kenya banned plastics and to date it's illegal to manufacture,import,sell or use single-use-plastics or carrier bags. Most travellers to Kenya from major international airport are always warned to discard their plastic bags before boarding any flight to Nairobi ❤. We've gone a notch higher to ban plastic water bottles in national parks. Tourists have to get reusable water bottles while in parks.
@TheVeraFrank Жыл бұрын
Yeah! Thanks for the clarification. I experienced the one at the Nairobi national park. The water we purchased were in bottles (not plastic).

The security check point outside the Airport was put up recently. Initially it was not there. Reason, we are a country on a 24hr terrorist attack alert from previous experiences. So such sensitive infrastructure facility like JKA has to be very highly protected reason why you have to be screened for any terrorist threat outside the Airport.
