Same thing happened to me last year. My mom was entering hospice so I decided to host thanksgiving for the first time. I cooked two turkeys mashed potatoes, candied yams, stuffing etc. bought table cloths paper plates and 200 dollars on dessert asking everyone what they wanted. The day before everyone cancels. Never again. Edit: Thank you for all your kind words, this year for Thanksgiving we’re going to feed the homeless, donating food and toys to those less unfortunate.

Almost the same has happened to me. Even had a bounce house rented. The dining area looked like a quinceanera the way I set up.All that wasted food since everyone bailed on me.I spent over a hour crying in the restroom so my kids wouldn't see. What was the reason she cancelled? We were invited to my husband's boss's home for Christmas dinner and we felt a lil pressured to go since he was a new horse n so even tho that day is my birthday,we canceled our plans with our family n friends to attend yet when the day came as we were getting ready the boss called to cancel stating he had partied the night prior so had a hangover n wasn't up to host us. I was livid n there after declined several invitations but we had moved next to him n again felt pressured to go but this time by my husband so after my second beer there I then proceeded to tell his boss why I didn't come to any of his previous invitations in front of all the guests n his jaw n everyone else's was on the floor. He looked at me so surprised n without words he then noticed everyone watching n apologized. Suffice to say that was our last time attending any other of this man's parties because he just wasn't a respectful, considerate or appreciative man. I could tell even his wife hated him. My husband has since found another job.

Me and my husband have lots of mutual friends so my parties are always really nice, big or small, but of friends that are only my own I invited 4 total, 2 who live in town 1 that lives 1.5 hrs away and another that lives 5 hrs away +$120 bridge toll for crossing there and back, the two friends from out of town actually showed up when I told them I understood if it was too much, the 2 friends from in town both canceled on me last minute, like during the party. I was so bummed out but now if I do invite them to anything I just message our group chat with the day and time and don't bring it up again, saves me the disappointment. I understand canceling but last minute canceling is the worst.

My sweet sixteen, he is the only person who came. My sister who lived with me even made it a point to leave. He was there because he wanted to be. He died a month later. This didn’t really happen with me, but I can relate. I work in a retail store, and I had to close that day at my job until midnight. My mom, brother, niece, and moms bf were all enjoying family time, eating the feast I prepared the night before. As I got home, everyone went to sleep, and I just sat in the dining room alone, eating quietly. I cried that day, because I wanted to celebrate with my family. Even last year on thanksgiving, my mom and I celebrated alone but we had each others company. It made me tear up but my mom did wake up and sat with me to give me company, and told me that she was grateful for me 🥲 Edit: y’all are sweet istg- thank you all. I think I can relate. I got extremely sick on Christmas eve 3 years ago. I had to go to the ER and I cried my heart out to the doctor. I begged him to let me go home between shots of morphine when I was conscious. I was in pain and close to death but I felt like I was missing something important. My family is spread all over the country and I was losing the chance to see them. I was stuck in the ER for 2 weeks and my mom visited everyday. Only a couple other family Members visited but I felt so sad inside. I had put so much effort into celebrations to see all my snacks, appetizers and gifts being left at home.

Girl I did that shift 7 years in a row as a single mom! No one ever wanted to work close on holidays so I always took it because they paid double… so I spent the holiday mornings with the kiddos then they went to their dad and I went off to work to make that double pay baby!😂. It sucked but was well worth it because the paychecks showed it and holidays are expensive as a single Mom and I was able to spoil my kids🥰

I'm sorry if I was there I would of stayed up or got up when u got there I used to work retail and my boss made everyone work on thanksgiving because she said it wasn't fair to give certain people the day off but we didn't work long shifts everyone with kids was off by 1 and everyone without kids worked until 1030 but me being the 1 cooking I had to rush home and finish everything b4 3 so my husband could eat because he had to work 430pm to 430am his job don't even give him Christmas off

My mama was in the hospital this year. The nurses were so kind and brilliant. The hospital cafeteria cooked us all Thanksgiving dinner and the nurses each brought a dessert for patients and family to have!!! They even let the grandkids up to eat with her if they passed temp check! It was so so so sweet.

Sadly I can relate bc this happened to me. Made a whole, huge dinner and my family bailed. This was last year. It was the first year after my Aunt passed away, and she was basically the mom I never had, so it was a rough one. And the few family members who had said they were coming just never showed up. Didnt even call to cancel. Luckily I had my brother and my boyfriend though. Thank God for them! Still really hurt though. Now I celebrate with my boyfriend & his family & I'm so grateful for them!

your face when mom said she wasn’t coming 😞 i send big virtual hugs. i had this happen to my on my 21st birthday. i didn’t even want to go out and celebrate because i preferred to be home with cake and drink a beer with my dad but my coworkers insisted i did something so they suggested a really popular sushi restaurant and i was pretty excited and invited a few other people. the evening comes, i’ve just walked in to put my name down for a table and then calls and texts started coming in that they couldn’t make it. one even tells me it was someone else’s’ birthday and said they were going clubbing and told me to go over there instead. i remember sitting there with the only friend that showed and just had to hold in my tears and call my dad to take me home. i somehow managed not to cry but geez did my chest hurt. i felt so betrayed and no one even apologized. i ended up transferring locations because i felt so embarrassed.

Long long ago in England people wanted religious freedom so they went on a boat called the may flower hoping to go somewhere else than England. They made it to Massachusetts in America the boat ride was horrible. Many people died and got sick. They tried living there it was horrible it was the winter and no one could eat. They got kicked out by a native tribe and had to go somewhere else. They lost even more people but they finally found somewhere where they could start a colony, A new native tribe helped them out. Showed them how to cook how to plant how to hunt. They were soo grateful! So they had a bunch of harvest and decided to have a feast with the native people. They had fun and ate there food. So thanksgiving is basically a holiday that represents being grateful and eating food for being grateful and stuff,

We don't have Thanksgiving where I'm from, but this made me think about my 14th and 15th birthday. I have always made a point of doing things for people I would want for myself. I would always go to the birthday's of my friends, performances, sleepovers, etc. so when I invited all my friends to my birthday I really thought that they'd come. No one showed. I remember just watching the clock the entire time, cried myself to sleep too. Same thing happened next year. Never really celebrated my birthday again. Y'all showing up matters. I would of definately came as long as there was cake, no one invited me 😒 My parents never celebrated any of their kids' birthdays, let alone spend money & time on throwing a party for a bunch of kids to come over who didn't have any connection to them or their world. As for you, the only advice I can give you is, don't stare back at the past, just look forward to the future, dream, plan & execute. This truly is your life & you need to draw the path going forward. Stand firm in your decisions & don't let others bring you down with their emotional roller coaster of a life. You are better off without them. Life post school graduation is very different. You will meet people from all walks of life & all age categories & make new friends. Believe me, it's not as scary as one might think. You will instantly grow some years up once you enter those doors & walk the halls. I had to get used to calling professors by their first name or surname, whichever they preferred 🤭

Just experienced this at home. Both my parents cancelled their own birthday treats which i booked prior & had to make plans for them. I almost had this situation happen to me I almost bought tickets to a game for my parents (moms bday or Christmas gift) and my dad said they will be back home on the 26th and the game is on Jan 1st but my mom said she was going to be gone that day because she’s going pick up my grandma and it’s a 5hr drive. So look at it this way, next time just communicates with them. I know it’s a surprise but sometimes they end up not knowing and end up planning stuff. So communicate communicate and communicate!!! Please forgive them I know you are livid. I’m sorry that it happened to you!!! I hope you were able to cancel your reservations or at least get your money back.
