Since OP was under 18, he was probably still in school. And you do realize that there are towns small enough that home, school and the local hardware store are all within easy walking distance, right? Grew up in one myself. I used to walk all over even after I had a car. Gas cost money, and start & stop driving are bad for a vehicle. When I was older, I'd drive from work to the local tavern, then walk home. I'd walk back uptown and get it the next day. I could actually walk to work, but sometimes I got assigned to one of the two sub-locations after I got to work.
