Jose always reminds me of my grandpa. Very god fearing and humble especially quoting him, “don’t even say it. It is wrong to wish for too much in this life. God has been good to us. We’ve been very lucky. We’ve had a good life.” Those words are true and humble.

It's a gorgeous movie for all families. And Gregory Nava has stated it's a melange of families, that few families would have so much drama. One of the best movies ever made. My students see it every year. They're endeared.

Our experiences are much closer than most people think. Both Latinos and Blacks were tracked by plantation records and share agricultural backgrounds. Some Latinos are considered Black due to the Middle Passage such as Latinos from the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Panama, Venezuela, Veracruz.

I love this movie. Just remembered it recently but this last 7-8 minutes is so good to look at periodically in your life. You can beg, pray and fight to get a bunch of extra stuff but what really matters is something a lot of people sadly don’t get. A loving family, food to eat and hope for the future of your kids. Prayers to anyone who has to live without any of those things.

Crazy but this movie reminds me of my family growing up my mom and dad were both immigrants my mom from Mexico and my pops from El Salvador. They had a family of 5 kids they worked hard to make sure we had a better life then them. Crazy because my mom's name is Irene my name is Jose and my older brothers name is Memo and he was like the Jimmy of the family thankfully he is alive and doing well. But my parents raised us in some of the worst years of Violence in my hometown Oakland CA. But we all came out good and many of us siblings went on to live good lives. Mexican Latino families really go through struggles like portrayed in this movie.
