I picked up the Veronica Speedwell series because you mentioned it a couple months ago and I'm so glad you mentioned it. I just finished the second book on audio and now I'm obsessed. I can't get over how funny and interesting those books are. You were so right about the slow burn too.

I haven't gotten to it yet, but Mira Grant wrote the Newsflesh series. Book one is Feed. The story is about two people in their late teens or early 20s who are blogging about living during a zombie apocalypse. Apparently, a cure for diseases like cancer, etc., was developed but it turns people into the undead. The two main characters go out into the city and film and upload news stories about conditions. I think there are three or four books in the series.
