Having used the switchback, zlite, and flexmat each for hundreds of miles, I can say with confidence that after 50 or so nights, they all compress into more or less the same product. As an ultralight idiot, I carry six sections of trimmed down switchback + a Gossamer Gear thinlight 1/8" pad. The total setup weighs less than seven ounces and is just enough for me to be comfy when sleeping on hard surfaces as I can stagger the pads so that I have both under my shoulders and hips. I've used this setup for over 5000 miles and absolutely swear by it I think your quiver looks just about ideal: minimal CCF pad, comfy UL inflatable, and mega plush car camping pad covers just about every use case. Great video!

Now that is what I love, the ingenuity of what you’ve done for your SUL set up! When was doing SUL I had something pretty similar but I could never quite get comfortable enough for me. I’d be digging and laying down leaves, pine, dirt but I just couldn’t do it. 7 ounces is admirable, that’s how you go ultralight. I’m glad you appreciate the combo here and understand each are a compromise in some way but each do their thing really well. Ive gone through a ton of mats and a few too many sleepless nights but this is where I’m at so far. If I had to pick one, it would be the NeoAir reluctantly, but it’s the best blend of them all. But I think I’ll be using the ccf pads more for a while, it’s just so simple and no pops or bubbles to worry about if I’m on the road for a little while. For a few nights, anything is fine. I’ve slept on my poncho on top of leaves and pine needles, it works.

I’m glad you also find it interesting. A good night’s sleep makes all the difference when exploring the places we love to visit.
