I love READING cookbooks more than I cook from them so I always try to seek those kind. I find it so relaxing! One of my favorite cookbooks is based on Jan Karon’s books based in her Mitford series called- Mitford Cookbook and Kitchen Reader. It reminds me of a small town community and the foods one prepares for welcoming someone, church socials or just having a good meal with friends and family. Thanks for sharing a bit of your collection!

Absolutely agree re Nigella, but have you read any of Nigel Slater’s books? He’s an incredible writer, such a comfort read

Loved this ..thanks for sharing this ....I love cookbooks for different reasons too ...my Good Housekeeping cookbook from 1976 is pure basic recipes , spine falling off ...for British cooking history it's Readers Digest cookbook which lasted longer than the marriage it was a wedding present for .... .for comfort and stories it's Midnight Chicken/ Ellen Rosenberg which tells how cooking healed her but it's not at all twee ....for stories and exploring it's The Jewish Cookbook by Claudia Roden ...all must have solid recipes as a given of course ...
@GinaStanyerBooks3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for reminding me about the Midnight Chicken, I have heard so much about it, but it kind of dropped off my radar. I really do want to pick that one up. I love that you still have your 1976 Good Housekeeping!

Love your channel. I have only one cookbook. It is an Alan Jackson (country singer) bbq book. I’ve never cooked anything from it but can’t bear to part with it. I finally unhauled my other cookbook to my grandson in-law who loves to cook. It’s called Gourmet on the Go. Out of print. I have friends who adore cookbooks.

Your cookbooks totally inspired me! I don't own Veganomicon, but I should get it! It sounds perfect for me. lol. I love cookbooks that are mostly writing about food with beautiful pictures, even if they're not foods that I eat. I'm reading The Christmas Chronicles by Nigel Slater and it's soo perfect. If you haven't read this cookbook, you must try it. Do you have any other 'writing about food' cookbooks? (A favorite of mine is Home Cooking by Laurie Colwin and I just found out that there's another one, so I'll have to get that one, too.) :D

I am currently reading Slater's _Kitchen Chronicles_ and love his style. I really want the Christmas one too! _Veganomicon_ is such a classic I can't believe you don't have it! It's really good. The other cookbook I have my eye on is _The Little Library Year: Recipes and Reading to Suit Each Season_ by Katy Young. It looks so cute.

Don’t know if you’ve ever read Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel-it’s a Mexican novel of magical realism infused into cooking and recipes. It was one of my mom’s favorite books and I grew to love it as well, even if it’s pretty far from what I usually read.
