I recommend "Skipping Christmas" by John Grisham. It was one of the first non-legal books he released, and he got grief for it, when it first came out. In the plot, a married couple decides that they're going to skip Christmas this year. And then other stuff happens to monkey wrench their plans. You can probably read it in one afternoon.

Hi Gina I've just read Winter In Thrush Green. I thought it was wonderful, funny, gentle and cosy. Perfect for this time of year. I love Ella and Dimity.

Hi Gina, In an attempt to be able to read all my lovely books, I’m not reading Winter Solstice again this year. But I was wondering if Coming Home is a nice one for Christmas? Or maybe I should save it for after. My Christmas reading list seems to grow longer every time I see another of my favorite writers or a Christmas theme. So many books, so little time. 😂 I’ve started Mrs. Tim Carries On for Dean Street December. And just started No Holly for Miss Quinn and Skipping Christmas. And have added Mystery in White by Farjeon and Agatha Christie’s Midwinter Murder short story collection. I have lots of other options, but just started pulling some from my shelves today.

Such a lovely video focusing on my kind of books - D.E. Stevenson is definitely a favorite author so I will start with Shoulder the Wind if I can get it. William Horwood is an author I’ve been really interested in and keep an eye out for and you’ve added another to the list! Just looked up that and it’s a series but looks like it’s difficult to get hold of the other 3 one of which is The Willows at Christmas!

I re-read “The Wind in the Willows” last year because you talked about and loved it so I’ll read the Hopwood book. I alwaysexpect to like Angela Thirkell, but I usually find her chilly rather than funny.

Hi Stephanie, that's actually a very good description of Angela Thirkell. I do find her to be chilly too (but also sometimes humorous.) I like my cozy with a bite :)

I read "Winter Solstice" earlier this year because Gina continues to promote it. The book is well worth the time. It's exactly what Gina says it is.

I enjoyed High Rising, and am looking forward to reading more of hers. Is Shoulder the Sky also called Winter and Rough Weather? I get confused too and hate when they change the titles. They should have to note both titles when you order online especially. I wish I could spend Christmas in that village in Scotland from Winter Solstice. ❤

I love Miss read and am currently reading Miss Clare Remembers in my project of reading them all in order. I am going to bring forward No Holly for Miss Quinn to read it first Christmas. I also like Angela Thirkell and have you read any Barbara Pym? I discovered the two together as well as Elizabeth Taylor and always associate them together.

Sarah Morgan is becoming a fave author of mine also. Presently reading Holiday Cottage by her. Really liked the Book Club Hotel. I have High Rise, not read yet. Just ordered a Christmas collection of Miss Read from Blackwells in England. Their prices are pretty good and the price of the bk. includes shipping to U.S. Sometimes cheaper than AMazon!! Just today, A friend recommended Snowed In for Christmas! How "odd". Of course, thanks to you, I will be reading my favorite Winter/Christmas bk. Winter Solstice. My favorite by Pilcher. I have 2 basket fulls of my Christmas collection to read; and that's not all of them. A Christmas Carole by Dickens , A Quilt For Christmas by Sandra Dalls, two/three anthologies by older writers( Alcott, L.M.Montgomery, Mark Twain,etc), A new ones Christmas With The Queen by Hazel Gaynor& Heather Webb. Hazel Gaynor is A favorite author of mine and I have almost all her bks. I could go on and on. AS USUAL " Too Many books, NOT enough time"!!!😁 Thanks Gina, wrote down some/ most of your recommendations.🤗😘
