Moonglow is my favourite Daniel Smith colour! Good skin tone mix for fair skin is titan buff and yellow ochre. You can add the tiniest. Touch of. Alizarin crimson to it to pink it up a little.

Delicious Selection!! The Indigo and Amazonite are beautiful. If you had the choice to only keep one set would it be the Daniel Smith or the Schmincke? I'm looking at making/buying a palette and both are very expensive over here (Australia) and I'm struggling to decide which to invest in.....

I'm Daniel Smith obsessed. I have so many as well. I LOVE LOVE LOVE all the primatexs. They are to die for. I NEED the burnt sienna light color too. I think I can get it on their website, but otherwise, I have to buy the Alvaro Castagnet set which already has so many colors I own, so I think I will be ordering from Daniel Smith soon. I also really want the quin coral you were talking about. It looks so pretty!

Hi Ali, I just got a couple of small sets of Daniel Smith's starter pack with the dot card....looking forward to use them. Do you find having filled a pan they. re- wet ok ...my hubby keeps telling me not to put out too much paint but I hate the mess of getting stuff out of tubes and want to fill a half pan ...already bought a tin and pans but now sitting on the fence whether I should!
@amysardelli59217 жыл бұрын
I have some in pans, that's i how use them. They work perfectly fine. There may be a few exceptions with some pigments but I haven't had any problems.

These are so beautiful. As a student I just can't shell out the money for these paints, and definitely not the schminka- but I will long for them from afar haha. I'm thinking of making a watercolour insert for my travellers notebook, because I love watercolours but I just hate using them on anything BUT watercolour paper- it's just not the same!
@AliBrownie8 жыл бұрын
I bet you will get your paints someday. Christmas is comin' ya know. :) I made a watercolor insert for myself. I love it. I also enjoy these paints on the TR. There is just crinkly awesome goodness after the TR gets wet and then dries again. :D

Purple Dragonfly Google Daniel Smith Dot Card. They have both 66 and 238 color cards available. The 238 dot card (5 pages) is the full line with the exception of the new 2017 colors. The dot cards are worth the price, $21.67 from Amazon, as you are able to see the true color and quality of these paints. 😊

Phthalo is pronounced "thaylo." Some years ago my watercolor paints were thrown out by some cleaning ladies. I'm slowly building up my Daniel Smith arsenal, they are my favorite wc paints. I do like some Winsor and Newton as well. I love DS Amethyst, Black Tourmaline, Sugilite and Bronzite as well as the Fuchsite colors. They all have a natural iridescence which can bring a painting to life.

Thanks for sharing. I've been thinking about buying Daniel Smith since I want more colors for mixing. I probably am not talented enough for professional yet though haha. Where did you get the palette box? Also, any idea how long a half pan or 5ml tube would last until you run out? I know it varies based on how you use it, but if you have any experience with that I'd appreciate it. I definitely want some of these colors now. Thanks again!
@AliBrownie8 жыл бұрын
Are you referring to my vintage metal 'Little Artist' tin? If so, then I got that on ebay. I bought my first Daniel Smith colors last Christmas and have only touched the bottom of one of the colors...to give you an idea of how long they last. I use my paints a decent amount but not too heavily.

I loved the review & I’m sold! However for the cost of the half pans + shipping of $3.44 on each individual pan, you can purchase a whole tube of paint on Amazon

I have never seen Daniel Smith paints that cheap for a tube. Can you link your Amazon find? I'm super intrigued! Thanks so much for watching! :)
@ssiberian86146 жыл бұрын
Ali Brown it depends on the color, but on Amazon 15ml tubes run from $9 to $18. With Prime, I get free 2 day shipping.
Ali Brown I stand corrected; I was under the impression that for each half pan it was almost $4 in shipping; if that was the case it would make sense to just buy the tubes. But to try out these paints, if someone doesn’t want the hassle of making their own pans, this isn’t a bad deal! I don’t want to discourage anyone from trying out this etsy shop

Well, I'm seeing this a bit late. Its now Aug, 2019 and new pigments are here. But yes, I love Quin Coral too. I use it for skin tones. I paint baby portraits. It is a PR209 and comes in most brands except Schmincke. Schmincke just doesn't have a PR209 but they do have a Brand new similar hue a (PR207) called "Quinacridone Red Light". Its just a tad warmer. I have PR209 in both Holbein , Winser & Newton & Daniel Smith. I am a Schmincke fan for sure but cannot resist the PrimaTek line by DS. I have a lot of different brands and am not totally bran loyal. I like Prussian Blue but wont use it because it fades really bad. Everyone who tests it for lightfastness have said the same. I have no clue why its always listed with good lightfastness. It doesn't.

I prefer schmincke's vermilion light to d's quien coral. It glows more, to me. It is PR 122.

@AliBrownie6 жыл бұрын
For sure! I really wasn't a watercolor artist at first. Just wanted to plop some color in my journal and enjoyed having the convenience of the colors I love already mixed. I have gotten more into mixing recently, but when I first started, it was important for me personally to just start quickly and not stress about knowing how to mix. I was not as motivated to paint if I had to mix something. But I love that everyone's journey takes them different places and buying just 3 cool primary colors and 3 warms will, like you said, allow hundreds of colors. Wonderful option for those on a budget or those who want to learn mixing right from the get go. Thank you so much for the tip and for watching! :)
