Always here for more Voctave, they’re so gorgeous. Have you seen ‘oh come all ye faithful’ with EJ Cardona? It’s just…stunning. Also, there’s a very cute little video of the BTS rehearsal of Jeremy and Kirsten losing it the first time Kate hits one of those incredible high notes. It’s only like 3 minutes but very sweet Edit: yay mason!!

I love vocatave and they are without a doubt my favorite musical group. I also enjoyed you bringing up the time signatures. When I was young learned how to play the violin and was even in a youth string orchestra. I've probably listened to this song a dozen times and never even paid attention to that, very cool catch.\

Jamey Ray mentioned somewhere that the love Medley is three types of love: At last I see the Light is romantic love, You'll be in my Heart is familial love and Go the Distance is self love. Love your reactions and my 10 yo son thinks all your Voctave reactions are hilarious 😂. Thank you for content that is fun for my son to watch with me (he loves listening to music and just started trombone this year so he started saying the beats along with you when you were counting). Keep it up! As a fun one my son suggests the Disney 90s TV Medley. I still suggest the Prince of Egypt Medley or the Disney Heroes and Villans medley (no video though) You will love it.

Either way, best of luck to you Mortius as you are going through all of this. Just know that you are still loved, even as you are loopy as all-get-out. And yes, I am equally baffled at Go The Distance's presence in this medley.
@hirtisrandolph4843 Жыл бұрын
That's a Major 2nd Harmonic interval? I think...? I'm doing this without tech support. Kirsten holds the same note for half the phrase while Jeremy uses the 2nd, 3rd and octave unison to sing "this bond between us" melody.
@hirtisrandolph4843 Жыл бұрын
At Last I See the Light and You'll Be in my Heart and Go the Distance were all written in 4/4 time, which is important when choosing how to compile songs into medley. However, Voctave's background subdivisions throughout the Phil Collins piece seem to have shifted to 4 (eighth-note)triplets and 4 eighth notes. For ease, I agree it would be best notated in 3/4, with the melody flowing across bars as needed. I don't think we caught their time-keep (I'm so bad with names) conducting in 4 during this song, so I can't be certain if they just practiced the phrasing independent of the beat of have actually changed time to 3/4 (minus Kirsten and Jeremy, who did not remain together much longer past this video, but are both now happy, married and raising families).

OMGOSH Mason made my 22 years of trying to read music much more understandable... I played Cello for 22 years and never really grasped how to read music. Time signatures always messed with me. I had to learn by ear just to play Twinkle Twinkle att 4 years old
@allendunning27210 ай бұрын
I think the musical theory term for the rhythmic illusion of combining duple and triple meters while really staying in 4/4 time is "hemiola". See mention of 'America' from "Westside Story" in the comments below.

Love your reaction to this. Side note though, and I mean this in a very nice way, but has anyone ever told you that you sound a little like Dan Povenmire (One of the creators of Phineas and Ferb and Doofensmirts in the show)? Just thought I’d ask because in some places I can really hear it.

This medley reminds me SO MUCH of another Disney medley you have to check out, Mortius. I only know that i loved this medley from the beginning. Voctave vocalists are the instruments ... nothing more is needed. You explained why it sounds so soothing and entertaining, both. Thank you.
@clapanse2 жыл бұрын
To my ear, that second part is just common time (4/4), with the background vocalists on eighth notes with a two measure syncopated cycle. There's no weird layering of time signatures or anything, and it's surprisingly simple once you pick it up, but they're doing some interesting accenting and emphasis that makes it sound the way it does. Specifically, it's ONE and two AND three and FOUR and one AND two and THREE and FOUR and... etc. The syncopated emphasis is really cool, but fundamentally it's just eighth notes in common time.
@lyleorr9832 Жыл бұрын
yes, I have the sheet music for this. He was completely fooled by just a syncopated eighth note pattern with an extra rest here and there but it is 4/4 all the way. In fact, the only time signature changes are in the few measures of transition to the third song (6/4, 4/4, 2/4 and back to 4/4 for the rest of the song)

Love your Voctave reactions. Please consider to audio song they perform. Prince of Egypt Medley and Being Alive featuring David Phelps. You will be even more amazed than usual. Lol… 123 123 12, it’s still counted in 4 as all eighth notes. The harmony you were questioning was simply traveling thirds.
@officialmortius Жыл бұрын
Except no one I know would ever actually count it as “ONE two three FOUR one two THREE four” because that’s a super weird place to have to emphasize. “ONE two three ONE two three ONE two” is how any conductor I’ve ever worked with would count that, because that’s what actually makes sense to the ear and to the emphasis
@raypierce5818 Жыл бұрын
@@officialmortius lol … feel free to count it however you like. I have the score and Jamie wrote it in four (1/4 note = 98) and that’s how I would conduct it. It’s actually written as a 2 bar phrase that comes out to 123 123 123 123 12 12 with the 1 for the men and the 2 & 3 as the lady’s response.
