The little blue coupler lets you connect the cnoc bag to the sawyer to the clean bottle all in one and you can hang the 3 from the cnoc and gravity filter while you make camp. You just need to leave the bottom clean bottle a little unscrewed so the air can escape while it fills. Its also just easier to filter regularly when theyre all connected too

Hey Dan. Thanks for the video. Agree Sawyer is doing some amazing things - your tour showed this. However, having used all the Sawyer filters, the Katadyn and now the Hydrapak filter - to say Sawyer is the best is a bit of a stretch. The very light, flexible bottle with the Katadyn is produced by Hydrapak. Yes it is susceptible to pin prick punctures. The Katadyn cap is flimsy and breaks easily. Hydrapak released a filter of their own last year with a more robust design, better flow rate and lockable cap. Paired with the likes of a Hydrapak Flux flexible bottle with the wide cap making refilling easy, the tpu fabric is super durable and the filter can be used with it interchangeable between different bag sizes. Using all three brands I've never had issues with the Hydrapak or ever needed to back flush it in the mountains. Sawyer still has some product development catch up work to do, which I hope they do!

For me the true optimization of the katadyn system is that the filter is inside the bottle. This makes the whole package smaller and easier to use. Most of my friends who have seen me use my katadyn at a stream have switched over. Mainly because of the speed. I can just get water and keep walking filtering as I drink. Even though katadyn is like .2 microns, I mainly drink alpine water in the high sierras so I'm not really that worried.

These "filters" and the new bags look great but I think you should take a look at the UK based Pure Clear 500ml and 1000ml soft bottle system. They are cheaper here in the UK than the BeFree and the Sawyer but they use the same technology as the Grayl so even viruses are removed. The down side is you only get around 200l out of a filter and they are a bit slower than say the BeFree and Sawyer. Worth a look though.

I was a licensed attorney for more than 40-years, and so to me, the word “absolute” does have meaning. Others reading these comments, or watching Dan’s vid here, will notice NO OTHER MANUFACTURER does in fact claim such a guarantee. You can HOPE that others won’t allow anything thru or you can RELY on the only tested and guaranteed filter on the market. As a backpacker for more than 50-years, I can also say I have suffered from giardia-type infections twice with one of those times being ABOVE tree-line. When Katadyn states that their filters have a pore size of 0.1 micron, I am pretty sure that they don‘t mean to say that a couple of pores are that size while others might be larger. At least I believe that their statement is meant to read: No pores are larger than that. Everything else wouldn‘t make any sense at all since that would mean that all of their filters are not safe. Also, Kurt‘s statement that no other company had a technologist in the water business like Sawyer does is pretty bold given the fact that Katadyn is a company with a whole array of products ranging from filters and chemical disinfection to desalination technology. I am pretty sure they have a couple of people in their company who understand at least as much as the Sawyer guy when it comes to water treatment.

Sawyer's are great :) both technical and company morals - but so is lifestraw (started as a humanitarian company, and use all the money they earn on selling for making more filters for 3rd world countries) and Katadyn has also for many years done very extencive relife work around the world. And just because the put "absolute" doesnt change that lifestraw and katadyn goes thru the exact same tests as Sawyer. You dont bring in people from katadyn to try and give their perspective, or lifestraw or others - seems more like a commercial than an open sided run thru - and i dont see why we need to bring down other companies. Sawyer makes great stuff and do good, so does katadyn and lifestraw - and Cnoc makes a 42mm that works with the befree..... ;)

Hi Dan! Just to let you know, CNOC is pronounced "Ki-nock". I know this because I asked them at PCT Days a couple of years ago. So great that Sawyer and CNOC are partnering, and so glad that God saved you!

I actually knew that! But I feel so weird saying it that way that I refuse to do it! 😂😂😂

I’m glad to see they finally partnered up and we won’t be wasting plastic with useless water bags that originally came with the older versions. I still have my original and keep those water bags in my emergency kit.

So you say sawyer finally gave up on their Absolutely horrible bag and went begging on their knees to Cnoc and begged yes begged to collaborate. I wonder if they expect those us who recognized early how Absolutely horrible Sawyer water collection bags were and purchased Cnoc bags on are own. I’ve got a kaytaden hiker I love for the compactness of it, the sawyer has too many small attachment parts that are small and want to get lost. Instead of a lose bag my kaytaden fits nicely into a small bag. All that being said I do like and use the Sawyer more often, I just abandon all the “extra” stuff that I don’t need on a trip anyway. Plus my 3 liter Cnoc bags make sure I have plenty of water.

Illusions of grandeur. Thinking "god" gives you any special attention is a wild misstep in logic. So you are important enough to save, but every starving African child isn't important enough. The 6 million Jews in the Holo weren't important enough. Etc. Etc. If you want to do good works. Please do! The planet needs people like that. But your egotistical nature from your youtube fame is starting to show. Regardless super cool colab. Sawyer makes a quality product. Glad they have made it more gooder.

Also, let’s stop and think for a moment about why god decided to give him rhabdo and put his and his friends lives in danger in the first place. And then screw Eric over for trying to help him. All gods plan and mysterious ways?!

You guys got it! You can point to just about every terrible thing humans have ever done (including devastating the Earth and it’s prior and current inhabitants) to egotistical, religious bullshit. There’s no “god” of course (whatever that means) but this world would sure be a better place without “him”.
