Actually, there is more to that glitch. Whenever the truck manages to deposit you on the side of the road, where it's rough, you could safely drive over the grass as long as you didn't first make it to the road itself (if your car stopped shaking, it would no longer be safe to drive on the grass). Of course, the same can be said for the margin; as soon as the car stops shaking, going back into the grass would kill your car. Even better is that while you could safely drive on the screen margin, the potholes made by the helicopter's grenade would not scroll down to destroy your car. The best use of that trick would be to build up extra lives.

I remember doing this. As I recall you can leave the car over to the side, wait for a couple of days and take a polaroid of the screen to show off your high score.

That can be a little tricky though because after a while the car that shoots from its side shows up and when that happens you have to slam on the brakes so it goes ahead of you, then you can pick up speed again.

Use that glitch to keep building extra players. Also if you just drive behind the truck when it wants to reload you, other enemies don't appear.

The only tricky thing about that glitch is when the gun car appears. I think if you play it right though you can avoid it.

On the ZX Spectrum version, when the helicopter comes on screen, you can hit the brakes and come to a halt short of where it’s dropping its bombs. Your score goes up for every bomb that you avoid, so you can go and have a cup of tea and come back to an arbitrarily high score.

Had this game mastered in the 80s. Only one guy could make a quarter last longer than me. I had all the glitches down. Could play for almost an hour on quarter

This game is crazy it has so many glitches. Sometimes I explode when I bump the truck. Sometimes I can bump the cars that bump you usually. When you just stay on the grass, you can also loop the level without crashing but you receive no points. Prob not a glitch but sometimes (don't ask me when) there is HUGE truck coming shooting you from the side. It only happened 2 or 3 times in my entire life and one time I have beaten him. Catches you by surprise as it comes out of nowhere from top usually on the left side of the road. I think the bikes are funny when you slightly touch them. In fire level. I guess I once made it to ice level but it's a though game 😔

You won't believe this - KZbin actually recommended your video. Someone at Alphabet is getting that sack.. Good vid BTW - even though Spyhunter is pretty repetitive it's still one of my favourite C64 games. Something enjoyable about knocking other cars off the road, driving into random moving trailers and going from land to sea in an instant.

If you were in the boat and you got bumped from behind you could be a boat on the road.

I remember doing that glitch too, it was fun. What I didn't know was exactly how to trigger the next level by going left and then left again. I could usually get to the desert level eventually and occasionally saw the winter level, but didn't know what triggered it. Is there anything past the winter level?

I think there might be another desert level but I don't quite remember. Eventually the levels just loop.

I figured out the glitch myself when I was young, but I never knew how to get out of it properly. Im glad I knew it wasnt just me

You could do a similar thing on Atari 800 as I recall. But I’d do it by accelerating as fast as I could and breaking to the right as soon as the game started.
