I've decided to pull the trigger on losing weight. Keto is going to be extremely difficult for me because I literally live on carbs. Pasta, rice, and bread are my staples. This is going to be a massive change for me.

I was the same way bro... it was a huge adjustment... but after 2 weeks my cravings and desire for carbs was zero... and it was very low after the first week. Sometimes it takes a big change to shake your body and mind up. I feel mentally stronger after doing this... you can do it man!

I just found your channel when I was looking at underquilts for my hammock and found your diy sleeping bag underquilt. I watched a bunch of your videos now. Great stuff and I love the "motivational message" at the end. Live how you want to live and let the people who can't handle it go. Not sure if you already did your elk hunt but hope it went well, or goes well, for you. My brother owns a guide/outfitters business in Colorado as well (Palmer Outfitters). He took it over from my father, who owned it for twenty-five ish years. Oh, and I am originally from the northern Adirondacks too (Saranac/Dannemora/ Plattsburg area...but I retired in the panhandle of Florida and don't miss the snow at all. 😁 Thanks for great content and insight!!!

I was worried about that, but I've actually made gains in the gym... I'm on a higher protein version than the base keto diet

@@RevHiker When I lost weight several years ago, I noticed some loss of muscle tone. I started lifting weights with a trainer and I felt great. The only problem was that my weight loss stopped and I started gaining weight. At that time, I started the Whole 30 diet and eliminated sugar from my diet and started losing weight again. It's hard to balance weight loss and muscle tone especially in your 60's (64 here). Now, I just do some light weights every morning and walk 5-7 miles per day.

@@ima4ster well, it sounds like you're in better shape than most people that are half your age! I have always gained muscle really easily, but weight loss has always been hard... just my body type... I think that's part of the reason I didnt lose any muscle on keto

I really enjoy Keto. Lucky that I have never had a sugar craving...but over 12 months I have lost around 35lbs. One of my favourites is to fry lettuce or spinach in butter to go with eggs and bacon for breakfast. Great video , many thanks

I think it is a good idea to limit a little bit the frequency of eating processed (heavily industrialized) meat. Limited quantity, alternated with fish and meat in "raw" format. Thanks for the mayo plus tuna tip.

Thanks for the video. After you made your weight loss video the other day, I decided to do keto to try to lose 10-12 pounds. I lost ~40 pounds in 2013-2014 and I've kept it off...but I'd like to get down to my college weight and stay there. Since starting keto, I've dropped 5 pounds in just 5 days and I don't really feel hungry. Bacon, eggs and coffee for breakfast...can't beat that. I wanted to ask you about your total calorie intake. I try to keep my meals below 500 calories and total snacks below 300 calories. What is your typical total calorie intake in a day?
@RevHiker5 жыл бұрын
My calories typically fall between 1800 and 2200 per day. The calories aren't as important as the ratio of calories though. It sounds like you're right where you should be calorie wise.

Sorry for all the comments, but since starting keto, I've learned that some of the go to foods that I've been eating for several years now are really not that good for me. I love bananas and can eat 3-4 of them every day. According to keto, that's one of the worst fruits to eat. My wife and I grow blueberries and we pick 25-30 gallons every summer. Keto doesn't like them either....at the amount we're eating. Laribar's are another of our favorite snacks, but not good for keto. I'm having to drop out some of our foods, but so far I haven't missed anything.
@RevHiker5 жыл бұрын
Ya, keto does restrict basically all fruit because they are high in sugar, which is a carb. I may transition to a whole food diet after my elk hunt, which would still leave out processed sugar and breads/most wheats but allow for whole foods like fruit. Still not sure what I'm going to do
@rivendellfarmandforgehomes30405 жыл бұрын
Drew, this diet was popular when I was your age in the 1970s . . really . . but it was called the Dr Atkins diet . . . you forced your body into ketosis by eating only proteins and fats. :)
@RevHiker5 жыл бұрын
Atkins and keto are similar, but Keto focuses on being in ketosis all the time, whereas atkins only has the body in ketosis in phase 1 and possibly 2. But yes, they are both low carb diets that are high in fat
