Hundreds of Keto videos watched and I think you're the first person who has explained why grass-fed beef is better than grain-fed and how it gets that way. I grew up on a cattle farm where the cows were left to roam the pastures throughout the day. I loved beef as a child until I moved to the city. That's when I stopped eating beef. I never made the connection why. Now I know. I love how you back everything with technical, science-based facts and provide the numbers to reflect it.

For those on a keto lifestyle you will also want to consider kidney stone formation and seeds with low oxalates. These would include flax, hemp, pumpkin, sunflower, and watermelon. By eating a modest ketogenic diet high in polyphenols from green tea and/or resveratrol you can help keep the epithelial lining of the kidney smooth and healthy which slows the seeding of calcium oxalate stones. Also drink more water than you think is needed to stay away from the saturation point for stone formation. Your kidneys should be like a flowing creek, not a swamp.

When I consume flax seed I like to do a variation on the Fosube shake: I use an immersion blender in some kefir and add a tbsp of nutritional yeast to raise the level of methionine to boost the protective effect of the protein. I throw in some blueberries and amla powder for brain health.

I keep all seeds and nuts in the freezer. I grind small amounts of flax seed and keep in the freezer. Great explanation-thank you!

Had no idea how much omega 6 adds to inflammatory response. I love grinding cocoa nibs with decaf coffee beans. Ground chia and flax are a 'tie' for me -- great salad garnishes.

I have watched this video to the end and read a bunch of comments, I was hoping to find out if blending/grinding chia helps release more nutrients like it does with flax. I'm on day 12 of my new ketogenic lifestyle and chia pudding (cream, water, chia, coco powder, stevia) has been my lifesaver. Keeps you regular and full.

Chia is more than enough to soak ( 2 times water or milk per amount of chia seeds) them a few hours/ I prefer over night and consume it next day.

I use flaxseed for my crispbread. Just soak them in Water, add some salt.I spread the flaxseeds on a baking tray and let them dry.Soooo good with butter.

@@peshakaufman3889 I use whole flaxseed, but you can grind them. I add just so much water to cover the flaxseed, they will expand and thicken after a while. You can add water afterwards if you need to.

I like the way you explain complex scientific stuff in a simplistic manner. I make my own flatbread every day and I include a tablespoon of flaxseed, half a tbsp of sesame seeds and half a tbsp of poppy seeds. I'm doing keto and exist on two meals per day. I'm just wondering if I'd get away with that, being on two meals. Or whether I'm pushing it. I've been leading a Ketogenic lifestyle for more than two years

When grinding Flax seed, avoid putting too much heat into it. I put raw seeds in freezer the night before, and put the steel coffee grinder containers in freezer too. Then when I grind them, it helps to keep temperature lower, preserving nutrients. I also have just heard that SPROUTED flax is best

I grind flax seeds and add them at the last step to soups. However, don't cook the soup with the ground flax seed or they will "gel" and it gets kind of gross (texture-wise).

I am surprised nobody talks about camelina seed. It is higher in omega 3, full of protein, and relieves inflammation. So much, that the oil from it is given to older horses to relive their joint pain. It won’t go rancid like flax as it has natural antioxidants including vitamin E. The oil has a very high smoke point and I use it for frying foods.

Add Sabja seeds (basil seeds) and a spoon of flax. Sabja seeds plump up in about 5 min.. I bought mine from amazon.. or Indian grocery store. Amazon is a better bet.

Yes this is a great video. My understanding is that you only need to grind the flax seeds. The nutrition from chia seeds are fully available without grinding tho soaking them for 20+ mins is best

Flax seeds make gel consistensy in boiling water. Curly girls make this gel and use it as a hair treatment ( it's extremely moisturising, add shine and hold to the hair)

Happy to watched particularly this one since it revealed to me that I overdo with hemp seeds on daily basis. Indeed they have a substantial content of omega-6s so I'll cut the daily dose to 1 oz for my hemp-milk shake. I made a cup of quinoa, spiked my blood sugar over 50 points. Seemed to spike my blood sugar the same as white rice. I find stay away from grains. If you have a blood sugar meter test one hour after eating a single food. Ideally you don’t want to go over 140 mg/dL. Walnuts seem to spike my blood sugar the least.

Chia seeds in unsweetened almond milk as chia pudding is a wonder breakfast. I just need a solid protein with it like a couple of large medium-boiled eggs.

I eat a bunch of sunflower seeds every week; add them to my salads as a topping for the vitamin E. It seems to me difficult to get sufficient vitamin E on keto.

I had learnt about the role of the enzyme delta 6 desaturate from Dr Barry Sears of the zone in the late 90s. You are the first one since then who has talked about its role in balancing the pro and anti inflammatory prostaglandins. However i was under the impression that it is EPA form of the omega 3 that does that and not ALA plant form. Or at least not that efficiently

QUESTION: You said to reduce/avoid grain fed meats, and then you spoke of cow meat only. What about poultry? Chickens and Turkey eat grains - not sure what else they might eat (worms?), but do you mean to say that they are high in Omega 6 and should I reduce eating them? I’ve always considered them as the better meat to choose over beef and pork (Fish is the best.) Thank you for making these videos!

Have you heard of CAMEINA oil ? Omega 6 -6.3 g Omega 3 - 3.5 g. It is produced in Saskatchewan Canada and is a botanical relative of Flax. The company is called Three Farmers.

Chia and flax seeds go mostly through you. Use flax powder. On the other hand, if you eat them for boredom like me, it takes ages to grind each one down with teeth so you don't end up eating too much. I loved cocoa nibs from the first time I tried them 15 years ago (in a chocolate exhibition). Luckily it has become so popular I have seen them sold even in my local supermarket! I have a very sweet tooth but I don't need any sweetener with cocoa nibs, perhaps because of the fat makes them taste LESS bitter than 85 - 90% chocolate, and I can easily eat 200 grams in one go. Shame they are so expensive! (Cocoa nibs are hard to digest, so for nutrients and taste you have to chew them very well, same as flax and Chia seeds)

What if you increase the resistant starch in quinoa? I cooked some and then refrigerated it for a day. It did not spike my blood sugar when I prepared it this way.

Wow... very informative. Very sure the best comparison I've ever seen. Here in Asia basil seeds are quite common. Some say they are almost as beneficial as chia seeds. Would you agree on this? I just couldn't find anything regarding the Omega-3 to Omega-6 ratio in basil seeds.

@@DC-xw4ln Purslane is a wild vegetable; however, someone told me they saw them selling in Texas. It is very easy to grown them, they almost like a weed. I just pick them from my front and back yard! In Chinese Medicine, it is called long life vegetable, for it has 5 colors! In fact, a lot of Cauasian use it as salad. I just prefer smoothie!

So glad you mentioned that flaxseeds need to milled before you consume. But something I'd like to mention I've used flaxseed primarily because it lowers testosterone levels over time and because I'm transgender it is ideal with other foods which I use as phytoestrogens. Hope you don't mind I mentioned this It might help others who are Trans. Absolutely perfect presentation My wife loves your voice so much it can send her asleep LoL 😂 Thank you so much!

I'm actually allergic to flax, I found this out after going on a vegetarian diet in my 20s (trying to get those omega-3s.) If I eat it, I break out in hives with swelling of my mouth and airway. I gave up "multigrain" because flax isn't required to be listed as an allergen, and as I learned more about nutrition I found that most seeds and grains contain a lot of anti-nutrients. I reached the best health of my life eating almost exclusively meat, dairy, eggs, alliums like onions and garlic, and brassicas like broccoli, kale, collards, cabbage, radishes, etc. I'm in the process of getting back to that style of diet, I never felt better than when I was eating

What do you say about lectins? As most of the seeds of it. Flex seeds has no lectins, but all the other seeds have and those are all inflammentory. It would be nice to get your opinion. I always enjoy all your videos. Cheers

Thank you for the video. 2 quick questions: 1) i usually put my chia seeds on my eggs and than make an omelet. They do turn gelatinous, but not that much. Should i grind them or make sure they are really gelatinous? 2) If you'd say: "it's ok to eat 30g of sunflower seeds, roasted and salted"...would those 30 grams mean the whole thing (shell+kernel) or just the kernels? If just kernels how would i know how many whole sunflower "seeds" i can eat? ...as 30g of kernels would be = to ??? g of "whole seed"
