The first Victor Lavalle I ever read was a novella called The Ballad of Black Tom. If you haven’t discovered it yet, I highly recommend it. Also, Blackwater is excellent! I’m pleased to see somebody else appreciates Michael McDowell.

Your channel is my favourite discovery this year! I like having your videos play in the background while I'm working - absolutely entertaining. If you have the energy for the next videos, I think it would be really nice if you list down all the titles of the books that you talk about in the description with time codes :) ALSO I'm looking forward to seeing more Southern Gothic / Gothic books in general in your channel next year! 🙌

I’m actually thinking about becoming vegetarian after reading Tender is the Flesh. I gave it to my dad and he said he looks at everything he eats differently. Great video!
@formerclarity88364 жыл бұрын
Oh this is my question about this book - is it actually vegan propaganda? Lol. Or is it just about how capitalism will turn us all into monsters?
@reglara794 жыл бұрын
@@formerclarity8836 I really thought that going into the book but I didn’t think it was vegan propaganda. I thought it was more about that how horrible we treat each other nowadays maybe this future isn’t so far off. Also I think the author did a great job showing us how we use language to soften the horrors of reality. And how we’re complicit in our blindness. For instance when someone says hey what are we having for dinner? They say special meat. Because special meat sounds better than humans right? Also this is me going into the deep end but it made me think of how humans have become the commodity. Especially with tech and data. Like Facebook, Twitter, google, have stopped being the product/service and we’ve become the used. Anyways if you are at all shy towards gore this book isn’t for you. But if you’ve managed to make it through any Ketchum, you’ll be ok.
@formerclarity88364 жыл бұрын
@@reglara79 Thanks for the reply! I've got no issue with vegans, or propaganda for that matter , as long as I know that's what I'm reading. :)

So I’ve had No One Gets Out Alive sitting on my nightstand (with a stack of others) for a literal month now. I had gallbladder surgery last month and figured I’d get to it eventually. Kept putting it off until I this video popped up. Bruh. I’m only 60 pages in and I already fn’ hate this Knacker guy. The description of him makes me feel like I need a shower... and all of the exfoliants in the world aren’t enough to get rid of how nasty he makes me feel 🤢! Also, I do the whole audiobook/physical book at the same time too. *hello ADD, I see you there 👀👀* I hollered out STOP IT when you said you do it too 🤣 I’m over here thinking I’m the only weirdo who does that!

The House by Edward Lee is also super cringy to me. But yeah I recommend those books if you wanna be grossed out. You'll never catch me reading them again. 😅
