My Favorite & Least Favorite Parts of The Chemistry Major

Most people think chemistry is organic chemistry, okay that's probably true. The only thing I learned in biochemistry is how to spell my name with amino acids. The mechanical engineering cop at K state and I were talking in the art history museum about how reading ingredients labels at the store was the only part of my high school chemistry education we're able to talk about directly.

I'm currently starting in this major. I might die due to poor analysis of problems, to be honest, there is a lot of hard ways to answer a specific problem. It always took more than 4 to 5 hours to study everyday outside the class schedule. Indeed, mathematics is always there and everywhere you went through likewise critical thinking and analyzation. I just hope that all ends well.

On the bright side, I love how encompassing the major is. It is indeed a brave choice to make but along the way, you will find people with the same interests with you. You will understand the complexity of life more. Love it!

Good luck! I find that looking for patterns that can be applied to problems and knowing the theory is super helpful and cuts down on study time!

@@zahlazizi Thaaanks! It was very tough for me since I mostly take classes in high school on social sciences and taking this course was a great risk for me to take. Nevertheless, I had my ups and downs but still manageable.

Hey there I would like to ask something slightly unrelated 😅 but what would you say should I focus on or study if I want to apply chemistry to biology or biological systems or problems like for example using synthetic organic chemistry to solve a biological problem or to investigate a biological system or something like biology from a chemists perspective ?

Possible to do chemistry at university (18+) without having studied math? How bad will I struggle, is it worth doing biochem instead

You will need some math (basic algebra) to start out but most of the other math classes you need you can take while at university. Most people even take calculus once they get to university even if they have taken it before just as a review. So you should still totally be able to pursue the major.

The worst part of a chemistry major is the absence of jobs with a BS and academic jobs with a PhD....but it is a good minor
