Some great choices! I love Madeleine D'Engle. I'm reading the Austin Family Chronicles right now. The first 2 books are more "slice of life" family ones, but the third one goes back into Sci-Fi a little bit. The Time Quintet is amazing, though, and I read them all as an adult. Just some of the best literature ever written, for children or otherwise. I've recently started The Keeper of the Lost Cities and I'm loving it! I've also gotten into the Nevermoor series too, its just so good! I would recommend the Septimus Heap series. I think you would really love that one.

I read the whole of artemis fowl a couple years ago; it was a great time! I almost more so am enjoying "The Fowl Twins" series about Artemis' little brothers. I always recommend Phantom Tollbooth to anyone. A book I came upon completely by chance is "The Accidental Highwayman." It's the funniest book I have ever read! It's excellent.

I have read the first three books in A Wrinkle in Time. I read them for the first time in my 20’s. They were pure magic. Now I know there are a total of five books in the series. This means I need to read the entire series over! YEAH! Every other book you named also sounds wonderful to me. The question is, will I read one series at a time, or the first book of each series, etc.? I love that several of the books are related to various world cultures. So far I have read middle grade books about Korean, Japanese, and Syrian families. Of course, February was a big BLM Readathon for me. I want to continue reading at least one book a month to learn about different cultures. Thank you for giving me a jumping off point for the next couple of months. I’m going to read Dear Martin and Tristan Strong for Juneteenth. Now I’m looking for books spotlighting our beloved Native Americans as well. Do you have any suggestions? They don’t have to be middle grade. I feel that starting with gentle children’s stories and then working up to the harder-hitting adult stories might give me a well-rounded foundation to my studies. I’m retired from a university where I worked with students and staff from many different places around the globe. Now, that I don’t get to see these busy people anymore, I think books are my next best step. Thank you for this list.

One of my all-time favorite series I read was when I was in middle school (which was like 2011-12) called the Underland Chronicles by Suzanne Collins. I actually found her through this series and my librarian recommend the Hunger Games to me afterward. I also really like The Mysterious Benedict Society series, the Great Tree of Avalon series, and Touching Spirit Bear. Even though I read those books so many years ago, I still sometimes think of them and how much I enjoyed them.

One of the most impactful and all-time favorite MG series of mine is the Gregor the Overlander series (aka the Underland Chronicles) by Suzanne Collins. I started reading them in about 6th grade or so and truly have those books to thank for getting me into reading. It's because of them that I then read Percy Jackson then Harry Potter and so on and so forth. Truly an underrated series that doesn't get enough love (and hot take I think it's better than Hunger Games...but I also haven't read it since middle school lol).

Thank you for this video, I love it ! I’ve never wanted to read Nevermore, but what you say about it convinced me. And I’m a so big fan of The northern lights. I’m re-reading it often and each time I’m like « my god Pullman is so brilliant ». I’ve read the two first books of The trilogy of the dust, and I’m quite disappointed. The quality is far from the first trilogy. Just a little point : you’re spoiling an information that is a key point for lyra. She is convinced that Lord Asriel is her uncle and she discovers quite late he is her father (and she feel betrayed ). Thank you for your top !

His Dark Materials is MG? I always thought of it as YA, even though the characters are children. Maybe it's like Harry Potter, which was more YA as the series went on. I love Percy Jackson! Keeper of the Lost Cities was underwhelming for me because of how plagued with gender stereotypes it was and its total lack of representation. Which is a personal preference, I know, and maybe I'm getting too old to criticize a middle grade book, but oh well. I liked the plot but every time we got a glimpse of the social dynamics of Foxfire I just couldn't. Completely agree with His Dark Materials, though! It definitely is a series from which you get more as an adult than as a kid, where a lot of the themes just go over your head. It holds up amazingly well and it's one of my favorite fantasy series ever, middle grade or not!

Kotlc honestly is kinda annoying not just because of Sophie, but that each book is soo long, and in each book, the characters recover from the last events, plan for the attack, get attacked and then CLIFFHANGER. Lol my patience was running thin
