Great showcase of this synth! And a bonus is watching your chair dances to the sequences ;) I've always been a fan of the minilogue, so the sounds that jump out at me feature the driven filter (dirty bass, last couple bell-type patches) and the clean FX (delay, mods like chorus/phaser). Saving my precious dollars for this one, for sure! In the mean time, please keep these minilogue xd videos coming!

There is something about the monologue and minilogue sound. It just doesn’t cut through. I always want more from the filter, but just doesn’t deliver, it feels flat, muddy and compressed. As if something is muffling the sound. Those patches that don’t rely on the filter sounds a bit better and can be lush but no real punch, resonance or grit. More something I could achieve on my computer. I can hear the sound but not feel it physically

M R It’s the effects man .. add a Echoplex, MXR Chorus, and TC Hall of fame to the original Minilogue (or even better the Strymon trio) and it can sound pretty bitchin if you know what your doing. But by the time you add in the cost of all those effects you may as well save some money and buy a Minilogue XD 😬 I have the original Minilogue and never use it .. I’m able to get fatter sounds on my iPad with synths like IK Syntronik, Moog Model D, Arturia iSEM, etc. layered in AUM with AUV3 effects like Eventide Black Hole, Pitch Factor, and Ultratap .. and I can play them on a full size 5 octave keyboard with aftertouch and parameter control. It just makes it so hard to justify shelling out the dough these days for hardware synths like the Minilogue XD ..... but I’m watching this video as I’m actually thinking of getting the XD (or even a Prologue) despite the fact I have 22 other hardware synths that barely get used anymore either. (guess I need to up the dosage on my medication 🙄 lol)

SEEKING OPINIONS: I recently got the itch for a semi-modular hardware synth. Some background info, I’m about to graduate with an undergrad degree in music composition and technology. My school was just donated a Moog Grandmother by a former faculty member who now works at Moog. I immediately connected with Grandmother. I’m rock solid on both the fundamental principles of sound synthesis and the building blocks of synths (I’m grateful to have initially learned on a vintage ARP 2500 modular!) but I’d never been very excited to work with them until now. It probably comes down to 1) the semi-modular nature giving you a highly functional, expressive instrument right out of the box and 2) the fact that I feel I can play it more readily than a modular system, especially given the keyboard. Grandmother’s expandability also excites me (the -5V - +5V “Eurorack Out” jack, mostly). I have this vague vision of starting with Grandmother and slowly building and integrating her into a Eurorack ambient/experimental generative monster that I can improv electric guitar and vocals along with. But that’s years down the road... SO FINALLY, my question: The Minilogue xd also intrigues me as an option for a first hardware synth, especially the digital multi-engine. I see it has -5V - +5V inputs which also means expandability. Does Grandmother exceed the Minilogue xd’s potential for expandability? Or are they about the same? I’m honestly the opposite of a gearhead so I’d like to use whatever I have for a loooooong time, if not for life. Any input (*rimshot sting*) regarding which hardware synth has the most potential for long-term use and integration into larger hardware systems is greatly appreciated!
@odinmp55 жыл бұрын
If you want integration , the 5v from the grandma can be solved with a module from Erica synths.. You can connect to anything eurorack and the posibilities are as big as your wallet. Minilogue xd , not much. There is no way to use an exteral lfo or a logic module on it. But its sounds are more versatile. Good to know you think long term. I still keep my emax and my old rolands , there were times i Didnt use them but i'm glad i kept them.
