Man, I love your videos. I'm new to synthesis, and I just can't decide now between the Minilogue XD or the Argon 8. I get that both of them are different types of synthesis, but your super clear videos really showcase the best of both. I'm going after a good synth that can create nice variety of lush pads to compliment live piano or live handpan.

The XD is such a cool sounding and reasonably priced synth. Great for beginners learning synthesis but also a nice addition to what ever you already got. Think about it, storage for sounds, sequencer, polyphonic. Bargain!

Cool sounds and video! I love the sound of the original Minilogue and the xd as well. I'm still not completely sold on synths having menus (I have a MicroBrute so it is very WYSIWYG in terms of controls). How do the menus affect workflow? Would you say that it is hard to navigate the menus to make minor adjustments?

This is a very hands on synth for sure. Some menu diving compared to the original but not bad at all

Bobeats. I am very new to the synth world. I recently purchased a korg minulogue xd. I have no idea how to use it. Is there a site I can go to that tells me what the purpose of each of the sections on the Korg? For example what does a vco do, what does the filter do and so on. Thank you sir

Apologies for the undoubtedly-stupid question, but I'm totally new to analog synthesis. In fact, the Minilogue XD is my first ever 'real' synth. For years I've been messing about with DAWs and controller keyboards, but this is the real deal - I bought it only a few days ago. My Question: does anyone know if it's possible to accidentally overwrite the presets in the Minilogue XD - either the preset sound patches or the preset sequencer patterns? I really don't want to do that. One of the joys of the instrument is simply jumping in and seeing what happens, but I don't want to lose any of the factory presets. Any advice would be appreciated.
@prof-steffen4 жыл бұрын
Pretty late reply, but for anyone else that sees it, you can edit (and thus overwrite) any of the presets, but if you accidentally delete or alter any of them you should be able to get them back with a factory reset, and you might be able to get them back via the Librarian software. I'd recommend getting Librarian and just backing up all the factory programs and then you can reload them if necessary.
@tuppswahey4 жыл бұрын
@@prof-steffen Thanks Jacob. If all else fails I'll do a factory reset if needed. I'm one of the (apparently many) people who have had no success at all with the Librarian software working on my PC. Since posting my original question, I got the Korg Wavestate as well - the software for that works fine, but (last time I tried) the Minilogue XD Librarian continually tells me the keyboard's not connected. Thanks again for your reply.

I tested the OG out and I’m sold! Which one should I by now; XD or the original? What’s the actual difference?
@niloben6594 жыл бұрын
I'd say the internal effects on the XD give it the edge over the OG. you can also download custom effects and oscillators etc that take it up a level

What is the best way to connect your Minilouge XD to your DAW? I have FL Studio 20 and have not been able to find any tutorials online that explains the correct way to connect your Minilogue to an interface, and then record both Midi and Audio into the DAW (FL Studio).

Thanks Bo This is helpful! Question: I'm looking at purchasing an XD... also considering Deepmind 12 and Hydrasynth. I love the warmth of the XD and the user osc... I'm concerned about the 4 voices and even more concerned about the short attack.. (I heard it's around 3 seconds vs 10 or more for Deepmind and Hydrasynth. I'm a sound healer and ambient musician, so long pads and swells will be necessary. The XD looks really great and is better for my budget than the Hydrasynth. The Deepmind is cool, I like the sounds, don't like all the menu diving, but hey, doing a live show for sound healing and meditative music with people seeing DEEPMIND on my keyboard is kinda awesome, lol. Thoughts? Have you found the shallow attack on the XD to be an issue? Do you think I should just go for the DM12 since it has long attack and 12 voices? The Hydrasynth is an all-around winner with build quality, voices, creative potential... I think it sounds amazing also for a digital.

I'm also interested in the Prologue but am super wary because of all the tuning issues I've read about... even after updates.

Also I've seen lots of reports of midi not functioning properly with the XD when hooked up to a DAW... Have you heard of that? I kinda doubt so many reports are just user errors...

you had me until you did the pitch LFO. made it sound like one of those bad air powered organs. like a cheap lowry... 🤣🤣 informative build though!
@russianvoodoo5 жыл бұрын
I still don't quite get what decay does in EG section. For example, if we're talking about the pitch, attack equals time until the pitch is going up or down... What's the purpose of decay? Is it the time for pitch to go to original note?
@BoBeats5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, attack = the time it takes to go to a specific value, the decay = the time it takes before it starts to go back... Long attack + short decay = you will hear a slow pitch change that suddenly goes back... The intensity knob sets it to pos or neg, so either pitch increase or decrease
@russianvoodoo5 жыл бұрын
@@BoBeatsBoBeats does it mean that decay should be a little bigger than attack or otherwise it will be immediate no matter what?
@BoBeats5 жыл бұрын
A short attack and short decay will give a snappy effect Making the decay longer will make it ”fade out” more... Longer attack makes it fade in more All about what you want Try applying it to pitch: quick attack, slightly longer decay = you can add it as a quick pitch effect for say a bass sound (apply to osc 2, use osc 1 as fundament)
