My late Mom got me into both Star Wars and Doctor Who. The second movie I saw in the theatre was the original Star Wars. Vividly remember arriving late (Mom was chronically so), sitting down, looking up and seeing Darth Vader's first entrance. After the end, we sat in the theatre until the movie started up again. We watched the main title, the crawl, and the entire opening sequence is what we saw last. Then we left at Vader's entrance. Hooked forever.

Being born in '75, many of my most nostalgic watches come from the decade. A lot of close calls per year with other films. Good call on High Plains Drifter. Just recently saw that. 1970 - Beneath the Planet of the Apes 1971 - The French Connection 1972 - Godzilla vs Gigan 1973 - Enter the Dragon 1974 - Black Christmas 1975 - Jaws 1976 - King Kong 1977 - Star Wars 1978 - Superman 1979 - Apocalypse Now

Here's mine!: Five Easy Pieces, The Andromeda Strain, The Godfather, American Graffiti, Chinatown, The Man Who Would Be King, Massacre at Central High, Annie Hall (can't choose between Star Wars and Close Encounters!) An Unmarried Woman, Alien. A lot of the movies you mentioned were close runners-ups for me: The Exorcist, Phantom of the Paradise, Barry Lyndon and Taxi Driver.

I love so many 1970s films: The Last Picture Show, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Taxi Driver, Nashville, Five Easy Pieces, The Godfather, The Day of the Locust, Klute, The French Connection, A Clockwork Orange, Cabaret, Paper Moon, etc. What's Up, Doc? is hilarious with excellent performances. My parents took me to see it.

I love the 70s! Many of my all-time favorites are from the 70s and like your list, a lot of mine are horror. 1970 - Gimme Shelter: I'm not a huge fan of the Rolling Stones but this is potentially my favorite documentary. It's awesome. 1971 - Straw Dogs is probably number one but Let's Scare Jessica to Death is a close second. 1972 - There are several that could be number one but I'm going with What Have You Done to Solange?, one of my favorite Italian genre movies of all-time. Deliverance, Sonny and Jed and Don't Torture a Duckling are my runners up. 1973 - The Exorcist but Badlands is a close second. 1974 - The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, which is my fourth favorite movie of all time. 1975 - Jaws 1976 - Taxi Driver, Carrie is a close second. 1977 - Close Encounters of the Third Kind, part of me wants to choose Sorcerer but Close Encounters is my true favorite from the year. 1978 - I haven't seen it in years but I'm going with Invasion of the Body Snatchers. 1979 - Alien but I love it and Apocalypse Now pretty much equally.

Wonderful list ❤ I grew up in the 1970s so am old enough to have seen 'Star Wars' on its first theatrical run (aged 8, which is the perfect age!). I wish I could re-live that thrill. You mentioned Alec Guinness giving a great but reluctant performance but this wasn't the case, he was very enthusiastic at the time and enjoyed the experience of working with George Lucas whose talent and vision he admired. Yes he found the dialogue hokey but that didn't stop him from being a positive and supportive presence on set. It was only in later years that he became disenchanted with the whole Star Wars phenomenon, he was irritated by the fan obsession of people he met who didn't realise he'd done anything else. Great channel, I am thoroughly enjoying your videos, and I particularly share your love of gothic horror movies, especially Hammer ❤ best wishes from London, England Oh and here's my list: 1970 Five Easy Pieces 1971 Dirty Harry 1972 Frenzy 1973 The Satanic Rites of Dracula (yes, really 😂 much prefer this to The Exorcist which I do like also) 1974 The Taking of Pelham 123 1975 Jaws 1976 The Omen 1977 Star Wars 1978 Superman 1979 Dracula (Langella) This list is right off the top of my head, there are loads of others for each year that I love but if I start adding my own honourable mentions and runners-up, I'll be here all week. To me, the 1970s was truly a golden era of movies

It’s going to be hard to give only one per year, and I may have a different list tomorrow, but for now: 1970: Donkey Skin 1971: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,l 1972: Gotta be cliche - The Godfather! 1973: Paper Moon 1974: The Godfather Part II or The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, although I did a retrospective episode on Mel Brooks and watched Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles several times for research. It’s hard to believe those are both this same year!! 1975: Dersu Uzala 1976: Mikey and Nicky 1977: High Anxiety 1978: Halloween 1979: Kramer vs Kramer

Oh, and just a disclaimer, I kinda cheated on a couple of years with ties 😂 I just couldn't decide though. 1970- Airport 1971- Tie! Klute and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory 1972- Tie! Cabaret and The Godfather 1973- The Exorcist 1974- Tie! Murder on the Orient Express and The Godfather Part ll 1975- Tie! Jaws and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest 1976- Network 1977- Suspiria 1978- Tie! Halloween and The Deer Hunter 1979- Three-way tie! 😂 Apocalypse Now, The Warriors and Alien The 1970s, 1980s and 1990s are going to be very difficult decades to come up with only one film per year lol but being a true film lover, I think it's understandable lol.

Daniel, Im curious if you’ve ever seen/reviewed the 1977 movie, The Sentinel? It’s horror, I was absolutely et it blown away by how great this movie is. It’s got Burgess Meredith, freaking Ava Gardner, and even a young Jeff Goldblum. I’d classify it as religious horror, but it would definitely also fit right in with Roman Polanski’s apartment trilogy. There was some controversy involving very early lgbtq characters and also disabled actors. But super unique and worth a watch - I found the lead actress amazing.

Born in ‘74, so a child of the 80’s (as many misunderstand the term). During my childhood in the 80’s of course I was exposed to new films of the era but also older films on TV or VHS rental from the 70’s. I LOVE 70’s films of every genre! Three Days of the Condor. Taxi Driver. The Seven-Ups. Satan’s Slave. The Hills Have Eyes. The Kremlin Letter. The Blood on Satan’s Claw (which I personally love far above The Wicker Man). Dawn of the Dead. Assault on Precinct 13. Across 110th Street. The Gauntlet. CEofT3K. Hardcore. The Driver. The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. The Laughing Policeman. The Killer Elite. Busting. Hot Stuff. The Getaway. Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia. The Last Wave. Murder by Death. Logan’s Run.

The 1970s: 1970 - Cromwell. Richard Harris's Oliver Cromwell vs Alec Guiness's King Charles I. (it was nearly 'Patton') 1971 - A Clockwork Orange. 1972 - The Godfather. Obvious I know, but I DO really enjoy 'What's Up Doc?', too. 1973 - American Graffiti. Edging in front (after singing Some Enchanted Evening') of 'Enter the Dragon' and 'The Wicker Man'. 1974 - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Sorry 'Blazing Saddles'. 1975 - Jaws. I wouldn't trust anyone who doesn't have this as their 1975 No.1. 1976 - Rocky. 1977 - Hmm, I figure a lot of my choices have been very obvious this decade, so for 1977 I'm going to go with a little underseen gem. There's this great little sci-fi/fantasy/space-western called 'Star Wars' which is a fantastic mix of adventure, humour and loveable characters. If you haven't seen it, I implore you to seek it out. I know it's available on VHS, I don't know if it was ever released on DVD/Blu-ray. Which is a shame. (shout out to 'Pete's Dragon', too. I adore this film). 1978 - Superman. 1979 - Alien. Yeah. Not very interesting, really. Fairly obvious picks throughout. Makes an argument for hearing everybody's FIFTH fave film of each decade: M*A*S*H, The Abominable Dr. Phibes, What's Up Doc?, Robin Hood (Disney's), The Front Page, A Boy and his Dog, Who Can Kill a Child? (aka Island of the Damned), The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, F.I.S.T, Dracula. There, a far more interesting list.

My favorite movie of all time is from the 70s . It was Neil Simon’s Murder By Death. If it was made today it would have been cancelled about 14 times over. It is the funniest movie I’ve ever seen and Truman Capote steals this movie

The early 70s were dreary and depressing {possible because of Vietnam}, as a teen in South Africa the only entertainment I could count on were James Bond or Disney movies. Things changed dramatically in the latter part with Spielberg /Lucas and a film like SUPERMAN returned to the grateful arms of the cinema going public. Michael =South Africa .ps. Ditto on The Godfather, overhyped, overblown watching it now Brandos cheeks are so obviously stuffed with cotton wool and his performance has been mimicked and paradied to such an extent it's impossible to watch him now without smiling. My favorite film from the 70s and of all time is Kubricks BARRY LYNDON the lighting bolt in what was the darkness of the early 70s. M

haha You make a great point. There’s some great stuff in the early ‘70s, but it’s far from my favorite era.

I am disappointed : in 1973, you didn’t even mention The Sting !!! And I don’t agree when people say The Godfather is the best film ever : are those persons ignorant ? Have they never seen Casablanca or Twelve Angry Men ?

I haven't seen The Sting in years, but I remember loving it. Good call that it deserved a mention.
