Crouching Tiger is S tier. Michell Yeoh apparently did her knee in during shooting and still managed to complete scenes. Very, very tough woman.

Great picks! Here's my list. These are pretty typical "best of" list choices but I love these movies. 2000 - American Psycho, still my favorite Christian Bale performance. 2001 - Mulholland Drive, my second favorite Lynch behind Blue Velvet. 2002 - City of God but I haven't watched any movies from 2002 in at least ten years. 2003 - Oldboy 2004 - House of Flying Daggers 2005 - This is a tough year but I'm gonna go with The Proposition. 2006 - Another year with a lot of contenders but gotta go with Children of Men. 2007 - Zodiac 2008 - The Wrestler 2009 - Inglourious Basterds 2010 - Black Swan but I rewatched I Saw the Devil recently and it could take the number one spot if Black swan doesn't hold up as well on a rewatch. 2011 - Drive 2012 - This might be a surprise but I'm going with Prometheus. A visual feast and one of my favorite scores of the decade. 2013 - Under the Skin 2014 - It Follows 2015 - The Hateful Eight, I know it's considered lower tier Tarantino but it's my third favorite film of his. 2016 - Green Room 2017 - The Killing of a Sacred Deer 2018 - Mandy 2019 - Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, my favorite Tarantino and my favorite movie of the century. 2020 - I only watched 10 movies from this year and Underwater was my favorite. 2021 - Another year of not many movies, Spencer is my favorite. 2022 - The Northman 2023 - Godzilla Minus One By the way, if you're interested in picking up some Italian genre blu rays, I'm selling quite a few and would be happy to send you a list of what's available. No worries at all if you're not. I just figured I'd put it out there before I put the titles on ebay.

"You Can Count on Me" from 2000 is awesome- one of my favorite movies ever. It features Mark Ruffalo's breakthrough (for good reason), and beautiful work by Oscar-nominated Laura Linney and writer-director Kenneth Lonergan.

just finished this, i just binge watched your 1930s videos thru this one. got a lot of ideas for things to watch. i don't really like comedies, chick flicks, etc etc so your lists are way different than mine. my 2000+ list would be dominated by the marvel movies for example. but the point of watching all these was to get ideas of new stuff to watch so thats ok.

Descendants, is a favorite of mine too, even though I lost my Mum when I was 13 years old ,51 years ago,( does not seem that long ago) its one of the few films that rings true on the subject

I'm surprised there are so many non-horror titles. Cool! The Guest is excellent. Despite not being a "dark" movie, interestingly its soundtrack features several classic dark-wave bands that i love like... The Sisters of Mercy and Clan of Xymox. I really like this one. 🖤

Such wonderful choices, many horror films that I haven't seen but I watched The Guest when it came out in theaters because of Dan Stevens and I loved it! I thought that Maika Monroe was fantastic. I loved also seeing mentioned Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; I also miss these kind of films. Have you watched Curse of the Golden Flower? The Nice Guys is great and so underrated, I also thought Ryan Gosling was fantastic in it.

Agreed on Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The counter-historical conclusion is a vehicle for a message that would be very difficult to tell otherwise: how much a better a world would be if some of the worst things were a little different? The movie makes you long for different outcomes. Brilliant.

Technically, Spirited Away is 2001. It was released in the States in 2002 but I like to go with original release regardless of where it is. That being said... 2000- Yi Yi 2001- Spirited Away (Mulholland Dr. is a close 2nd though!) 2002- City of God 2003- The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 2004- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 2005- Brokeback Mountain 2006- Pan's Labyrinth 2007- No Country for Old Men 2008- The Dark Knight 2009- Inglorious Bastards 2010- Certified Copy 2011- The Tree of Life (though A Separation is a close 2nd!) 2012- The Master 2013- 12 Years a Slave 2014- Boyhood 2015- Mad Max: Fury Road 2016- Manchester by the Sea 2017- Blade Runner 2049 2018- Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2019- Parasite 2020- Nomadland 2021- Drive My Car 2022- Everything, Everywhere All At Once 2023- Oppenheimer

x I watched What About Bob? o I saw this film in the theater in 1991 (when I was in elementary school) and I was the only one that liked it in my family, this is the second time I have watched it, awesome comedy! x I watched Paul Naschy's The Werewolf & The Yeti, good film! o I thought the werewolf costume and the transformation were exceptional and really liked the setting. x I watched that Pride and Prejudice film a month or two ago (for the second time) and have read the book, I am a fan of both! x I was born in 1979, the year Hayao Miyazaki made his feature-length directorial debut with The Castle of Cagliostro feature-length directorial debut. x Forgetting Sarah Marshall is on my January Watchlist, it will be the second time I have seen it. x I am a huge fan of Spirited Away, Spider-Man 2, Casino Royale, Inception, and The Witch (actually saw every one of them except Spirited Away in the theater). x I am not sure what my favorite films are each year from 2000-2023, but definitely The Bourne films, The Loved Ones (2009), and It Follows are some of my favorites that I thought of on the spot. x I just added Trick r Treat, The Nice Guys, The Batman, and Malignant to my February Watchlist since it is the beginning of the month (my January Watchlist is already full).

Sorry Daniel, but I wholeheartedly (but respectfully) disagree with you on "The Bat-Man." "The Bat-Man" is the textbook definition of a dark, gritty, and realistic comic-book movie, and there is nothing comic booky or pulpy about it. Aside from the detective aspect (which everyone has over-praised at this point), the film doesn't do anything that hadn't already been done in other Batman films before but better. Well, except for The Riddler.
