Honking through the tunnel is just one of those traditions that people always partake in.
@theresaj.payne-johnson4573 жыл бұрын
And this east TN girl always heard that honkin' in a tunnel brought good luck (&/or blessings). We always do it - sometimes all the way thru, not just once.
@NightBazaar3 жыл бұрын
@@theresaj.payne-johnson457 I also understood it to bring good luck. Although maybe it's to scare off any tunnel monsters. I think honking in a tunnel is that it sounds weird as you drive through.

Ahh so the honking in the tunnel thing... I'm not sure what regions it expands to, but as a kid, driving from Kentucky through Tennessee to go south, it was always a tradition to honk in the tunnel. I remember being a kid and getting excited right before I knew the tunnel was coming. It's weird to think about now but there ya go Lol. It's just a thing I guess! I'm sure someone else would know

Exactly my fun memories! :) It wasnt just in the South, but I lived in West Coast & even north in Canada they did it! lol The history is that it began as safety.In the past, tunnels used to be only a single-lane wide, so drivers would honk to let cars coming from the opposite direction know they were driving through.:) Then Grandparents passed the tradition down to their families :) So fun as a kid! :)

Honking in that tunnel has always been a tradition. I live in Orlando now, but I grew up close to The Smokies and went a couple of dozen times a year growing up. People have always honked in the tunnel for fun, or at least for the past 34 years of my life.
