When you put the Super-SCAR trigger in the SCAR 16, it is the best 5.56 rifle (because of aftermarket parts, it beats out the Bren 2 IMO). Also, I suggest passing on the Spear as it has still unresolved QA/QC issues like the barrel bending and the mag insertion causing jamming.

Bren 3 has been announced but currently only for police and military. No imports for civilians announced yet. It has many changes from the previous versions. The XCR has many caliber choices as well as several upper lengths and choice of MLOK or KeyMod. Not sure if they still offer the quad rail anymore. It is probably the most 'doomsday' of any rifle on the market.

Is piston better than direct impingement? Is non-reciprocating better than reciprocating? Is side charging better than rear charging. Is AK style ‘rock ‘n lock’ better than AR style mag insertion?

Piston guns will be heavier than DI guns but the real difference is in the way the gun felt recoil when firing. Non-reciprocating > reciprocating whenever possible. AR style > ak rock and lock for sure as well
