Hi Scott, great videos! Thanks for all you do! Just a quick note if it hasn't been covered. The Shure lav clip actually goes onto the element BEFORE the wind screen goes on. The clips ring is meant to rest in the groove located midway on the element body. Typically, the ring sits so that the "185" element sits almost flush with the height of the clip, NOT protruding out in a "elongated" fashion. The mic will stand a little higher with wind screen. Once the clip ring is mid element, you can then replace the windscreen. This will give the lav a lower profile look and keep the clip horizontally roughly in the middle of the element body. Truthfully, it works in either direction as long as the ring is centered on the element body, but placing it "under" the cable will surely result in it popping off during normal use. Please keep up the great work!

@ScottUhlMusic5 ай бұрын
Thanks! And this one is the one I use, but it does output at line level or mic level. So if you go into something expecting instrument level you might get issues, but some people don’t even notice. I go direct or into a HX Stomp and I set the input to line so it’s no problem for sure. This will be more reliable than GLXD+ but the + model is both 2.4ghz and 5.8ghz which is really nice. Both are great. Slxd is a better model though 🤘

Hi, Scott! Per usual, great content! …had my eye on the SLXD35 as a mini portable/travel IEM set up (XLR plug on transmitter + body pack receiver). I contacted Shure directly to inquire about specs on the system so that I could check its adaptability for my intended purpose, they tried to steer me along to their PSM300 IEM system (I already own two PSM900 IEM systems, I’m not interested in another half-rack IEM solution, especially a model LOWER than what I already own 🤨😆 ). Have you tried using the plug on XLR transmitter (SLXD3) + body pack receiver (SLXD5) as an IEM system?
@ScottUhlMusic10 ай бұрын
Thanks! I would agree that you shouldn’t really use it for an IEM system, since that’s not really what it’s for. You would want a way to turn up or down the volume easily on the receiver, which I guess you could do with that buttons mode thing. So it would work, but that’s not the ideal way to use it

Hey Scott, thank you for the helpful videos! I work as a mobile DJ and wanted your input about using the SLXD-5 (with SLXD-3 or bodypack) vs the Alto Professional Stealth Pro system for satellite speakers.. I know the Alto is basically made for this purpose and looks solid based on your review video, but it is analog so I would think the SLXD-5 is better for clarity especially at a distance, plus the amount of available channels and the fact that I can use it with my existing SLXD system is huge. On the other hand if my satellite speakers are in the same room as my mains that are wired, can the digital latency of the SLXD (small as it is) be noticed and cause an uncomfortable listening experience if close enough to a wired speaker? I just don't know which to go with and would love your thoughts on it. Any insight or recommendation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
@ScottUhlMusic2 ай бұрын
Yeah I’d go with the SLXD, it’s top notch! And we get “latency” just by where the speakers are placed anyways, people often forget that being like 20 ft from a speaker gives like 15ms of latency or something like that. The thing that’s nice of the Alto is you can set the latency by how far you are placing the speakers away, which is nice. But I think it’s discontinued. The SLXD is a fantastic option and I use it all the time for this 👍

I’m looking to buy a Shure wireless system and vacillate between the SLX-D and GLX-D+. It’s for community theatre (200 seat venue) soloists in choir (typical church hall venues) and possibly in my rock band, though we manage fine with wired for small pub stages. I’d go straight for the SLX but I’m in the UK and there are licensing requirements for the SLX-D frequencies and no licensing requirements for the 2.4ghz of the GLX-D+. I’m planning on starting with one mic, growing to a max of three as funds allow. So, small numbers of mics, small venues … would the GLX-D+ be a reasonable bet to avoid having to manage an annual license fee for the SLX-D ?
@ScottUhlMusic10 ай бұрын
The SLXD is a better overall system, but the GLXD+ is also a good option. I have videos on both. With The GLXD+, just make sure you don’t have a bunch of wireless already on 2.4ghz and 5.8ghz. Slxd is going to be more reliable overall, but both are great systems

Seems to check all boxes: digital, not on 2.4Ghz, no license required. I’m not familiar with the 835/935 mics but seem pretty comparable to SM58 / Beta58. This is a general comment. I wanted to say how much I appreciate your well thought out, and articulated reviews. You are my go to for quality info. Whenever I am curious about a piece of gear I first check to see if you have reviewed it before I start wading through the quagmire of poorly done reviews that fill youtube. Thanks for the insights. I am a harmonica player and am always looking for decent quality gear at decent prices. My youtube channel is here youtube.com/@DaleDutridge?si=f8TPxfEontjwxbqw

Scott, is this an upgrade from your EW100 problem system? Similar size etc. I don’t need multi mic mode
