After all the shadow bans and threatening to end Anthomnia's dog, I've been pretty salty with the game for quite some time. I did also buy the Bio dragon. But I haven't played the game for a few years. The Isle, PoT, and BoB are all both superior imo. Including certain Roblox games as well, like Creature's of Sonoria.

To be completely honest if I raised over half a million dollars in kickstarter to create something as simple as a dragon game, I'd make the entire game in it self free of charge and release little to no DLC's. The shadowscale could've been more bat like The flame stalker is just a normal dragon The IR looks and acts like dehydrated Monstrous Nightmare The Acid drake is...just so ugly looking. For a first time developer Jao should have considered the art style direction the game. He settled on a hyper realistic tone which I have no doubt has cuased a plethora of problems during its development, such as time and money. I would have taken inspration from games with basic but charming graphics like Valheim, Lethal Company, etc. These games have a massive playerbase due to the fact the devs focused on the gameplay itself over graphics. You know, games designed for fun? It doesn't help Jao goes out of his way to avoid any other coder working on the game with him. Claiming the other coder might "steal his custom codes". Instead of hiring, he blew 50k on music (16 songs estimated $8300 each). When ever he complains about the work load, I just roll my eyes.

As someone who backed the Kickstarter--Don't buy this game. Blew over 80$+ for a game that can't even run half the time. Which is insane considering how absolutely BARE BONES it is. Ignoring all the KS stuff for a moment, let me talk about the game itself. 1. As you've seen, the game runs extremely poorly. It doesn't matter what rig you're using, expect frequent frame drops, lag, and Dsync. Expecially during fights. Which sucks, because dynamic flying and dynamic battle were one of the main reasons why I opted to try and back this game. But, just like the Isle, expect to just jerky run around each other. It's a little better in the air, but not by much. 2. And speaking of PVP: Expect a lot of it. Between there being literally NOTHING else to do, and the map never producing enough AI to feed the populace, its about the only thing people can do to remain sane / survive. 3. PVE... Outside of finding water, hunting a few scattered AI, and searching for mushrooms(?) don't expect much. The map may look pretty but it's extremely bare bones, with no real substance to it. Think they had one or two lore-ish tidbits to find back in 2023... but it really wasn't worth nearly dying for? Which, back then, you did very quickly due to how poorly balanced the PVE was. Food and water used to drain ridiculously fast--To the point were PVP groups started rescuing hatchlings who just spawned in. 4. The menus--Poorly optimized, organized, and are just overall too clunky for my own personal taste. If you ever open the Stat menu in games it's.... a lot to stare at. 5. Gameplay: Again, outside of PVP there isn't much to do. Sure, you can nest people in to try and grind better stats--But why? From 1-50 hours, the gameplay is all the same. There's nothing new or innovative to be had here. It's just a reskinned survival game. As far as a survival game goes---It's not worth the 20$ asking price, let alone the 40$+ you'd need to purchase everything along with it. This game has been in development for 3 years now with nothing but a few extra models and bug fixes to show for it.

Breeding/nesting is the only gameloop in DoD, there's nothing else to do. Probably be another 5 years before we get any of the promised things. Right now Beawesomegames are looking like CIG. Promise the world and deliver as little as possible while asking people to keep giving you money. Wonder if Star Citizen will be finished before DoD, maybe that could be another video.

I came across this game, was super hyped as I love dragons and survival games and became even more so when an actual update was promised. Ever since, it’s been a roller coaster of “updates” and the lack thereof. I still love this game, I enjoy the concepts, but my love for the game is truly for the community groups I found through it. For me, it’s the friends I’ve found that make the game fun and a comfort in my life. At this point, we’re all just crossing our fingers it will actually keep getting better and are striving to enjoy what parts of it we can together.

somehow the update from early access to 1.0 also made the game have less things do to. At least in early access there was eldering, where you hunt mushrooms to grow your dragon to the next stage after adult. Now that that's removed the only thing to do after reaching adult is just sit in one place for 40 minutes waiting for eggs to pop out of you

i remember being so hyped for it when it was announced to be released i was watching a bunch of videos on the pre release version my friend bought a couple days ago he has a 4070 ti and he struggled to run it medium graphics so it’s got poor optimisation, another thing horrible abt it is the community all of them will attack you if you give the devs constructive criticism or dislike the game, the game also has lacklustre gameplay with most of the time being sitting and growing or being attacked by a mega clan and lastly all the stolen ideas, assets (in pretty sure they stole an asset at one point), and looks of the dragon. i understand working with ue5 can be hard ive tried making a racing game on there with 16gb of ram and i couldnt run it after the coding, but thr devs got 500k to spend on hiring people, pcs and gambling, yesterday whilst driving around town i found a pc store selling a 4x 4090 pc with 120 gb of ram for $30k they could easily afford 10 if those and theyd be a lil overkill actually but idk how many devs are on the game but dont complain about bot having enough ram is a 1650ti 4gm vram laptop with 16 gb of ram can run the code and models of an arcade racing game (not sim racing sadly cus when i tried i didnt have enough ram) you could make this game with about 100 gb or ram and they probably have 100s of gb or like you said they gambled it all away. jesus christ my finger hurts from that

Path of Titans has made more progress than any creature survival game I've seen. I'm sure there are others out there, but in my experience, they've made even more progress than The Isle ever could, which I was into Legacy before PoT came to Xbox, which is my main platform. Mainly because of the mods they have, not to mention crossplay, is why I think they're so successful. Like, people have even made fantasy mods for PoT, with some dragon mods being a part of them too, like the Dracoviper, Noviana, and Ophis. With more still to come! Heck, even ARK has better dragon mods than DoD, which I lost interest in after the whole controversy surrounding it

If they stopped making future content, worked on what needs to be in the game NOW (quests, new environments) then this game would have much more content that is has. It's called prioritization. All of what Jao's patron has is nothing but dragon concepts. Why make more dragons when there's nothing to do in the game but lay eggs and one shot bugs? Make a game first then you'll see why this game is losing it's players :D

​@@skittlecornnation4323even the textures are store bought, which is totally fine but you can see in vacant areas without foliage to cover it there's tons of tiling (caves mainly) Textures (usually) are made in a program called Substance designer. I've used it myself, it's really fun to make a texture from scratch using just nodes. The issue i have is, usually a texture has exposed parameters to change the pattern and shape of that texture to avoid tiling. Exposed parameters are translated to UE5 or unity to use like a "brush" so you can change how something looks without needed to make an entirely new texture. Unless the pack they used didn't have exposed parameters, there shouldn't be obvious tiling everywhere. Just a tidbit in case you don't believe I'm not a game designer :D

The only thing I like about the game is the flight mechanics... I think that's it. What I don't like about it is the fact that the majority of the dragons are too similar to the dragons from How to Train Your Dragon - Shadow Stalker/Nightfury, Inferno Ravenger/Monstrous Nightmare etc. This irks me the most about this game. It's hard to grow a dragon coz you're always getting killed/starving to death/dehydrating, it's hard to find food in most places, the dragons are stiff and feel more like statues (and you'd think they'd have more fluent animations by now), and the list goes on. I agree with every single point you've made in this video. This game ultimately stinks. Also, new sub!

11:58 Malgimation’s island and Creatures of sonaria is pretty fun (though obviously the absolutely asinine conversion rate between robux to money makes it so most games have to paywall most of their game sadly. I also like a game legit just called ‘roblox dinosaur simulator’ it’s actually really fun and the creator is aiming to create a system that’s more fair for the player! They have a cool style aswell :] they also have a trello that outlines their plans for the game in order of priority and only stuff that will be in the game is added to the trello! They also talk with their community and ask stuff, it’s really chill over there surprisingly!) I really like the creature survival genre as I’m a paleo and spec evo fan! Although I usually go for more avatar-movie like designs like the only dragon I like to an extent I would want to play the game would be bio. Also as a cos fan (creatures of sonaria) the player base is huge and absolutely insane lol

He later admitted that him "working on the game" before 2019 was him thinking about the idea and learning to code, but then halfway through he switched engines because the one he used originaly (forgot which one) didn't have the possibilities he wanted, so technicaly the true coding work started AFTER the ks Also the 500k from ks DID come in one batch, right after the kickstarter endes he got all of it (well most of it since he forgot to make a company and received the money as a private person, ergo he had to pay a lot of taxes and ended up wit ~300k instead) And it disappeared pretty fast after he insisted on hiring disney animators, an expensive concept artist who never worked for games before and giving himself the salary of a professional programmer so he can quit his job and "focus on the game". Since roughly 2021 patreon funds the development and gets pampered for it a lot.

In another video discussing this game, I brainstormed several ideas to fix the creative bankruptcy of this game. I suggested ways to make baby and juvenile stages more interesting by giving them age-exclusive hunting methods, such as the baby using an enlarged, glowing version of its flame sac to lure in prey, or the juvenile having more muscle in its legs for high-speed running since its wings aren’t developed for flight yet. Another thing I devised was exclusive methods for each dragon to hatch their eggs. Fire dragons would have to find a suitable environment (+speed if desert, -speed if tundra, etc.) and then they could gather nesting materials for their species to speed up the incubation process, like hot coals for a fire dragon or a special type of ice for frost dragons. Survival games have been cursed for years now, but there’s several ways to make dragons more interesting. *I’ve spent about 4 years writing a book series about dragons and I’ve made vastly more unique dragons than the people who made DoD* . Like some people have said, a couple of the dragons are just ripoffs in terms of design and the actual gameplay is extremely barren. You have no idea how badly I want a dragon survival game or even a good free roam-sandbox game, but as long as greed and incompetence exists, we’re probably never gonna see it in this lifetime. Edit: As for Roblox games, the big one currently is Creatures of Sonaria, and it has several problems of its own. The gacha system basically means the game is more like Pokémon than a survival game, as you’re constantly saving up money to spin those overpriced gachas for your favorite creature (and side note, the only way you can preview a creature is by its mugshot and a lot of creatures have extremely misleading, cool heads but stupid ahh bodies lol). I will say though that the recode has improved things a bit, the creature handling feels more like an actual animal whereas before it felt like driving a semi-truck, and the addition of new weathers and a seasonal clock that’s actually in season order (previously the seasons were just randomly picked, so you could have it jump from summer, to winter, to autumn, to famine-) has made it much better…but it’s still kind of a boring mess but that’s every survival game nowadays

The worst part to me is the toothless rip off, its so shameless yet no one seems to mention it in neutral and positive day of dragon videoes. The dragon is also ugly as sin. The animations, posture and wings seems stiff as well in all of the dragons, if they are gonna copy heavily from httyd they could have at least also copied the animations. Or just referenced birds and bats. The insect dragon doesnt even look like it belongs to the world and most of the stuff in this game is so generic. The only recognizable dragons are the httyd copies, the rest are stuff you see everywhere.

I think pot may definitely diss the isle with the specific timing of some of the creature releases however I definitely dont believe that they just started developing it just specifically because the isle talked about it. The damage day of dragons has done to Kickstarter-Survival Games is immeasurable. It is obvious that many many Kickstarter Games will not release or flop and thus not return the investment of the people but that is just the general truth about investing in entrepreneurs. But day of Dragons took one of the simplest, most desired ideas out there and nuked the trust of their backers to such a degree and with such a high funding of HALF A MILLIONS DOLLARS that no game of this type will ever get this much money collected again, no matter how well the team behind it would be set on making a good game. As always, it needs exactly one singular person to destroy an entire trust based system for everyone after them. And god did they do a good job at doing so. I got this game when I was into the survival genre, dismissing the scam allegations, after trying the 1.0 update once, I’ve given up. Most people play pve for some reason (if you can find a server with more than 5 people, not an exaggeration) where the entire gameplay is, finding bugs with trivially easy to kill ai, wait in ga full hour of not being able to do ANYTHING, just to be able to fly (the only half decent thing in the game) congratulations, you have nothing to do at all besides nest. A while back I was even let into one of the developer rooms. They haven’t made any progress in like 2 years. It was literally just models. Then 1.0 rolls around and guess what, it doesn’t even do anything besides add one playable and an hud change, not to mention the ridiculous texture glitches. Maybe if it adds larger, and actually good ai the game could possibly be fun. But they currently just have a few things planned from what I’ve seen. Honestly just don’t get the game. Probably the worst decision I’ve made with money.

What is supposed to be the problem? Are you seeing a Deinocheirus playable on the isle? NO, it is us, players, who wins with this. Even years after that promise we are not seeing it yet, because all TI does, is promises, and PoT brings them to life. What people don't get is 2 days is entirely too short especially since the models are made by one of the devs and not reused or purchased assets. It was hilarious when duck released and isle fans were going feral as if the playable could have its coding, abilities, stats, skins, model, sounds made in such a short time, it was obviously something in the works and they chose to release it then to jump on the hype. I *want* a good dragon survival, I can wait years but this is not it. The game should not be so horribly optimized that even with recommended specs i get little over 40 frames cuz the map is so gigantic with only hotspots r decorated. The deinocheirus addition was actually coincidence, it was never going to be in PoT however a group of cheirus lovers got together the funds and essentially paid (strong-armed) PoT into putting cheirus in the game during the KS. I can attest to this because I am one of the funders for it. While I am satisfied with what was done, I am wanting for some improvements and changes. However, it was a collective decision making process (design, skins, attack, playstyle) and we all tried to compromise together. Just wanted to clear that up.

Jao is just so disrespectful towards his community, for years he’s been teasing us with updates that never come while working on dumb products to try and squeeze his playerbase for even more money. Then god forbid you criticize the game, lest Jao throw a hissy fit over it-like when he wrecked the stat system in DoD, making it way more boring and scaled for a system that wasn’t even in the game at that point, then when the playerbase was reasonably mad over it he threatened to wipe everyone’s saves if they don’t shut up. I was really excited for DoD, I’m a kickstarter backer and played pretty much since launch, but this recent 1.0 update combined with Jao’s constant scummy behavior crossed the line for me. It's not only sad but its wasting so much potential if he just hired more people. The coding is garbage. It took me 30 minutes just to drop a nest yesterday because of all the bugs. I get good games take time and alot of money to create..but look at other games then look at them. The fact that there STILL isnt really content in the game itself, like questing like POT as they promised. Their output with content is extremely depressing.

Putting out a demo for an unfinished game is a common thing. Developers do it all the time. Day of dragons made 500k off of their Kickstarter and all he had at the time was a demo with store bought pre-made assets.

this is why i love wolf quest. the devs are cool as hell and involved in their community, they never announce release dates (just show dev blogs and that the product will be finished when it's finished) and they have update blogs every single month on thursdays (so a set schedule). it isn't a dinosaur game but i'd play wolf quest over day of dragons and path of titans and the isle ANY DAY. they're always implementing things that the community wants and take the community into consideration. the ONLY DLCs they put out are for the continuation of the game (to fund it) and just extra little character customisation packs (also to fund it). like make no mistake, no dev team is perfect but these guys have developed wolf quest since like... 2009. with each different game version, however, came improvements. i have never been disappointed with their dev team, unlike the isle which i have sworn off entirely. i can't in good conscience defend the isle, day of dragons or beasts of bermuda :/ (sorry completely unrelated to this game but in contrast to other survival games, wolf quest dev team has my standard so high that it just puts into perspective how shitty these game devs are - WQDevs even make an effort to make the prices of DLCs low enough that a greater chunk of people can afford it for heaven's sake). it takes forever for updates to come out but then i look at stuff like day of dragons which has ten times the developers and money and i stop complaining. this kind of stuff is the reason i'm backing away from survival games in general now... it's so disgusting. the way they keep people waiting, the way they can't give proper dates, the way they keep leaching money because someone keeps using it to make PLUSHIES... like dude. what the heck.

Not one original dragon design in this game except that little one that flies real fast maybe. Literally if Path of Titans just implemented nesting already (which they should have ages ago when they added growth) and like a scent system Path of Titans would be wayy above the rest. I just want one game in this genre to do something that the players want.
