Hey Shrimp People!
The title says it all! My favorite shrimp of all time (heart eyes!)
If I could only keep one type of shrimp, this would be it! Since 2014 GREEN JADES have been the apple of my eye in my shrimp room. I've kept every color of neocaridina out there, and this one has steadily remained my #1!
While beauty is always in the eye of the beholder, its hard to deny how beautiful they are.
The luxurious emerald green color and high percentage of high quality offspring produced are some of my favorite things about this color variant. They are nicer in person, if you can believe that!
NOTE*The colony featured in the video is my current Dark Green Jade colony obtained/started in 2019. The pictures referencing 2014-2018 are some green shrimp from my PREVIOUS colony. Green jades available in the shrimp hobby PRIOR to 2018 available typically looked like those ones (light green, high variability). These are 2 seperate colonies, from 2 seperate times (2014-2018 and 2019-2020)
If your looking to purchase high quality, homebred, healthy green jade shrimp in Canada, I sell them in my online shop.

Sorry I meant to say that the old green jade Line I had from 2014-2018 is alot different then the line that became available in 2018 (much improved) I did not selectivelly breed them since 2014. I put a note in the video description regarding that in case anyone is confused.
@cocojones959
@cocojones959 4 жыл бұрын
@@ShrimpLife Ah k thought you mentioned before that you had to hard-cull them but maybe I've got them confused with another line then (black rose?). Still jealous regardless, haven't seen any that nice over here. Almost just as green with envy :'P
@ShrimpLife
@ShrimpLife 4 жыл бұрын
@@cocojones959 Yes the black rose is the never ending culling, yet much improved still. My old green jade line that I showed pics of in this video never could improve as much as I wanted regardless of culling. It was kinda always mixed shades of green regardless. But this dark line I obtained in 2019 sure is dark and consistent. (I do also cull this line but its improving rapidly as you can see they are pretty large number of high grades)

They look beautiful! I can't wait to get some eventually! I'm also starting to cull my pumpkin and blue neos. I'm always scared that my colony will crash (like some die off and i'll end up with nothing) after I cull my shrimps so i've been waiting for their number to grow first. But, now... I see some of the offspring looking like the low grade males and it upset me. lol

Is it normal for the GJ Neocaridina's to show a blueish color if you shine a light over then?

Bigtizzle yes it is. It’s also normal for them to appear blue after shipping from being faded. Once they are comfortable in your tank and under proper lighting they are Undeniably green

@ShrimpLife
@ShrimpLife 4 жыл бұрын
Each shrimp has specific parameters that are required to thrive. Depending on the type of shrimp there's different ways to achieve those parameters. For example with caradina species of shrimp you would use the combination of buffering substrate +rowater+ salty shrimp gh+ to create the right parameters.

Shrimp Life im sorry to keep bothering you but im just getting more confused😅. Is there a difference between Neocaridina and Caridina?
@ShrimpLife
@ShrimpLife 4 жыл бұрын
Different species that require very different parameters to thrive. I do recommend doing quite a bit of research before setting up a shrimp tank to know the basics and familiarize yourself on how to set up a tank so that your shrimp do well

@ShrimpLife

@@vb2377 no it may not be enough, use a powdered food for babies, biofilm is usually sufficient if the tank is mature and the colony is small. My colony is large so there is never enough biofilm, Need to be supplemented with Powder food

So, how does inbreeding work with these? Won't the genome deteriorate over time?
@ShrimpLife
@ShrimpLife 4 жыл бұрын
Would take a very long time before you would notice any deterioration.
@QualeQualeson
@QualeQualeson 4 жыл бұрын
@@ShrimpLife Well, that's rather unclear if you don't mind my saying so. You confirm that it's happening (which can't be good unless shrimp are a special case, I don't know) and also, what does "noticeable" even mean when it comes to an individual looking at a shrimp? I imagine there could be severe damage before it's noticeable to the naked eye. I'd love some more information. I'd like to know if it's avoidable and still compatible with selective breeding. Thank you.
@ShrimpLife
@ShrimpLife 4 жыл бұрын
@@QualeQualeson The reason its "unclear" is because I have not experienced "deterioration" within any of my colonies. That doesn't mean others havn't.
@QualeQualeson
@QualeQualeson 4 жыл бұрын
@@ShrimpLife Like I said, it can be hard to determine simply by looking at the shrimp. One might even be used to the effects of inbreeding by treating the level of sickness and death caused by the weakened genome as the standard. Anyway, there are articles and studies online that you can look at if you're so inclined. I think that even if you're not that interested in the science behind it, it would behoove you to routinely remove some of the premature stock regardless of color, and add stock from the outside to keep the genome healthy. The problem might be that it can be hard to track down stock that's not already inbred. Best of luck.
@ShrimpLife
@ShrimpLife 4 жыл бұрын
@@QualeQualeson As you can see in this tank there are no defects visually or slow breeding. There is also not sickness or death in the tank. I've not experienced any of the above in my colonies ("weakened genome") I mostly advise based on my own personal experiences and not studies online. Thanks for your comment
