The video is intended to teach about culling. Ofcourse there are plenty of people who dont care to cull .. thats perfectly ok. Many people don't realize how it affects a colony or why people even do it. Without culling there would not be any of the many color variants of shrimp available today. For me culls go into a community shrimp tank (no killing) Thanks for watching :)

No I understand that and why it is important to do. I really do not know much about shrimp. I do keep glass shrimp in my 40 breeder. They are awesome lil maids. Plus I love watching them. I did get some cherry shrimp. I haven't seen them since I put them in my tank. I do have alot of hiding spots for them. I have a lava rock pile that is kind of set up more like several caves for them to hide from the fish. I just believe no shirmp is is ugly, the less pretty ones, yes I wouldn't let them breed and would remove them from my tank into another. I do this with my mystery snails. In doing so I got a clutch that gave me a bunch of jade mystery snails. I hope I didn't offend anyone, that wasn't my intention.

Nobody is offended! When i first started out I did no culling at all. As I progressed, my goals changed and I began culling to see really great results

I know they are adorbs. I buy cull shrimp. I just sit down and watch them while I drink my coffee. You should sell them on ebay. Lots of people buy cull shrimp on there.

Black neos are the most interesting to work with. It’s like an empty canvas of the shrimp world. I’ve gotten grey, blue, black, clear, red, and even red rili’s.
@ShrimpLife6 жыл бұрын
Yes exactly. They do have many various color and quality offspring which is what inspired this video. To refine the color... increasing the chance of black offspring can happen with persistent culling. Simply keeping only your best adult shrimp at all times .. thanks for watching!

Your videos are always so interesting. I have black roses too I ordered 10 from flipaquatics but as they matured some turned blue, brown or red 🤔 2 females are pregnant right now, it'll be interesting to see what babies come out. I'll probably have to do some heavy culling by relocating some to a culling aquarium. Keep those videos coming please.
@ShrimpLife6 жыл бұрын
Hi Israel! Thanks for watching :) Sounds like you are in the same situation as myself with the Black rose!I think many people who have Black Rose can confirm those same type of results of varied offspring. Just keep separating your best Black Rose shrimp from the non Black Roses and you will really be on your way to better results in future offspring, thats my goal! :D

I've internationally placed 4 types of neocaridinia along with 1 caridinia. The shrimplets are various in colour. I'm going to split them into dark and light soon. I would love to get some completely clear. Like glass shrimp but cute lol

So why delay the culling if you don't want the ugly ones breeding? I think it would be best to do it early to be as efficient as possible, don't you think?

Your comment about the adults all dying and babies surviving was a bit of a relief to hear. Exact same thing happened to me. Must've bought like 12-18 shrimp in total and all but 2 ultimately died, primarily from my water hardness being so high but also the first batch got stuck in my tanks heater housing (which I removed after). The last lot I bought, one female was pregnant. And although all the adults in that batch died in the course of about 2-3 weeks, the babies are all alive and happy and I've finally got about 11 or so shrimp in my tank!

@ShrimpLife5 жыл бұрын
put them in a cull tank or sell them as culls

I usually just put them in other tanks as clean up crew, but if they are expensive you can put them in special tank, breed them and sell for lower price.

Yes, it’s recommended that you only use inert to sand or gravel for all Neocaridina Shrimp.

@@ShrimpLife what’s inert sand? Is that like normal sand?

@@ZimmFor3 Yes regular sand or regular gravel for Neocaridina.. A lot of people use what is called shrimp soil but that is actually meant to be used for a different type of shrimp (caridina)

There is a tendency shrimps just loose color to match gravel and surroundings. The only way you could keep black shrimp color is back crossing to parent stock this creates a genetically weak stock
