I think there was an interview where Jensen actually talks about that. At the start of the show, he deepened his voice for Dean to sound cooler/tougher and then had to deepen it even lower as Dean aged. Something along those lines.

ok, i love it, and im obsessed with it, but theres so much emotional pain the show, and a lot of the plot is so frustrating. surely youve noticed the plot holes in the recent seasons? annoying. and also a lot of what the writers put the characters through (especially cas) i feel is unnecessary. its a great show, but my favourite seasons will always be the earlier ones, because lately its just so frustratingly hurtful. but i cant stop watching it because of how much i adore the characters lol. the writers have me trapped there :) i dont hate it as much, but i admit that i cant wait til its over 💀💀

@@adastraperaspera2279 couldn’t agree more. eric kripke was the only person who knew how to animate the characters and storylines in a certain way. i try to care about things in the later seasons, such as character deaths but i honestly can’t. not compared to the earlier seasons anyway. we saw ellen and jo, what, like 5 times throughout and their deaths had me sobbing. kevin and charlie’s deaths just seemed so... disappointing, to me. the emotions and the boys’ relationship with each other felt so real in seasons 1-5, and the storylines and characters were brilliant. we had the funniest episodes back then too... tall tales, bad day at black rock, mystery spot, ghostfacers, yellow fever, changing channels.
