I developed something called "Vami's Zigzag" (Vami being my CM/FM community nickname since 1995). It's IWB - MEZ - IF. The way it works is the IWB cuts inside, while MEZ goes outward from the center into a wide position and IF cuts inside, so it creates a complementary three-player zigzag. I managed to put it to extreme, having two zigzags, one on each sides and extremely narrow possession game. My possession oscilated around 80% in every game.

Cute! I was using the 4x3x3 with 2 Mez's just like that in FM19. But I felt there was not enough scoring in FM20 with that one. So I went digging the local spots and found that the most productive goal scoring tactic in the game was Lisa's 4x4x2 Spider (diamond). A bit like Knapp's Phantom Menace but with more goal scoring because the change in the FW roles (Pressing,Attack from Knapp into AdvForward from Lisa). I then modified a few things in that tactic and came up with something... I'm using a 3x5x2 based on that. I've pulled the DLP into a 3rd CB with the Libero,Attack role. The other two CB are BPD with Wide intruction. The two WB became WB in their WB position, up in the field. This way I defend with a 5x3x2 and develop into a 3x5x2. Sometimes I feel there are many bodies behind the line of the ball but it gives the consistency the tactic needs. In mid, two symmetric BtB Mids with Wide instruction. In #10 an Attacking Playmaker with Support. I've tested a number of roles here, even Enganche. I feel none is better than AP because, well, it's the best of the worst. And I tell that because that player sometimes has 6.5 in a game with a lot of 7's or he has a 7.5 in a game where he is the key of the attack. Is pretty inconsistent but I'd rather have a body in that space in this tactic regarding the type of instruction. I feel the AP support is the best one since he covers a lot of space in both off and def transitions. And being a Playmaker dictates some plays with two BtB behind. Up front two Advanced Forward because, as Zee tells here it is the right instruction for a goal scorer in this game. I've used several lone strikers with several instructions... since DLF, F9, Complete Forward (a disgrace in this match engine as Zee pointed out)... then I started pairing with different roles. That... does not work. I thought the big striker + small striker would work but... no. No matter who you play. Either go 2x PressAttack and have a mobile and energetic duo that needs someone behind or in the wings to be a scoring threat or play the 2x AdvFW and grab some powerful ones and get on with it. In my FC Porto save, Aboubakar and Marega are the best AdvFW for me. And I even grabbed the Edouard portent... but Aboubakar even being shy in stats gets to be the best goalscoring element in the team. And I've used several tactics, even this one, with several instructions even the DLF that Abou is natural at. But not as efficient as AFW. So yes, that striker role is, as I might see from my experience, the only good option in this match engine. As for the rest... Mez's were good in FM19 but here... dunno, I can't squeeze as much performance as I can from the BtB. The BtB are the all-terrain that a team needs and when in a short midfield like mine, having them Wide is the key. The only negative aspect is that sometimes both of them will press the same player. But that's a flaw in FM match engine. The rest, defense and whatnot, is not that relevant in this version as it was in previous. Dunno why but I had the best defensive records with this 3x5x2 as I had with 4x2x3x1 and this 4x3x3 version as well. The only difference I've seen in all tactics is the offensive output and goals scored. And of course, possession. TL;DR, check out Lisa's Spider 4x4x2 to see real goalscoring. And work from there. I changed from an AC Milan that was winning 1-0's with 4x3x3 dual Mezallas to winning 4-1's with Spider 4x4x2. Then I adapted it to my style and playing with 3 CB's and I'm consistent with 3-0's over the season.

This video has everything. Epic trolling of the haters AND crazy good tactical advice. I've been really frustrated with my current save because my team can't create decent chances and therefore can't score goals. I've been playing the same wide 433, except with inverted forwards and wingers in the wide attacking spots. Switched those folks to true winger on the "right" side, and made a few other minor tweaks, and the goals are now raining in. Looking back, the wing play from before was terrible -- all cutting into the stronger foot for a dribble that ends in nothing. And when these players would go the byline for a cross, having to switch to their stronger foot gave the defense time to either block the cross or get in the box to clear it out.

I've basically been doing this exact same lineup for a while. At first with the 4-3-3 then also with a 3-5-2. The midfield 3 is always DPM Defend, Mezalla Support (right side) CM Attack. I usually use inverted wingers on both sides (support on left, attack on right). Second option is a winger and inverted winger or inside forward. I've tried plenty of different roles for those midfield 2 but I think the current setup works best with the players I have at the moment. My 3-5-2 uses an AF and DLF/CF, my 4-3-3 uses either an AF or CF, but DLF Attack has also worked really well. Sometimes I drop the 2 strikers to one AF and AM of some kind. Obviously the defense changes to either FB or WB.

Zealand, your videos are great. I've learned so much. But I've got to tell you this. You don't have to play narrow. Your wingers will get into the box regardless. The width option tells your player how wide to use the space. By playing wide you force your opponent to defend wider than they intended, and open up space like the channels to create more space for your strikers or forward running midfielders to use. That's why by default, attacking tactics are wider and defensive tactics are narrower. Think about when you play counterattacking strategy, you may want to play narrow and fast, drive the ball center and forward upon winning the ball and let you fast strikers to chase, if you play wide in this situation, your players will consider passing the ball out wide, this will slow you count down.

I have almost the same tactic:( That is kinda sad, cause I was hoping on "find what fits your players best" stuff. But it all ends with wide-balanced-shorter-higher. Some notes from my exp: * Mezzala is kinda cool position, cause it provides REAL freedom to your player. If he is ok with role/tactics, if he has good mentals, if you allow team to be "more expressive" - this guy will be exploring space all around the field (sometimes not even on his own flank). But the second thing I learned - this position reveals your mid all secret desires. I was rotating two CMs and one of them finished as top-assist guy; the second on contrary tried to score on every occasion. * Counter-attack is NOT a must. Don't mistake with c-press, c-press is a must. The point is: you have shorter-higher... for a reason? If direct passing was beneficial - you would use it. Even with unticked c-attack your team WILL provide ball quickly to a poacher waving a hand. If your backline is not great at passing - c-attack is a ton of turnovers. An you lazy guys don't see them, cause you are too busy to tick "full-match" once instead of highlights. * "Distribute to..." just choose an option which results in least turnovers. DLP in my case. * High-pressing - seems to be a must, the whole game now is about "outpress and outposess". Small trick here: instead of moving the line to the "standard" values - you can use... Work into the box. This way you don't spoil def line familiarity for your players and don't give up initiative to the opponent. Instead, you instruct your guys to roll the ball in front of the goal with less turnovers. Also, you can switch tempo higher --> standard (pretty similar effect on risky passes). But I personally hate to mess with settings which affect familiarity (work into box surprisingly does not). PS: An extremely undervalued stuff is your assistant's feedback. This guys is constantly mumbling about "Player X is used to more direct play more direct play more direct play". So it can give you an insight why something is working wrong. PPS: Please, care about familiarity! 50% familiarity and 90% familiarity are two completely different teams.

@piotrwoejko58574 жыл бұрын
To be honest this was my first go to tactics in my first save, which is always Barcelona. Then I have used it in multiple other teams, top tier or not so much. And it just doesn't work too good. Main cons are: not scoring enough goals and not even creating too many clear cut chances; being overrun in the middle of the pitch (for real, not that stupid comment from assistant manager), mainly by teams playing flat 4-4-2 like PSG or Atletico Madrid with Tuchel and Simeone respectively; not being sound defensively, doesn't matter if defending was done in narrow or standard width. Then I have switched to 4-2-3-1, which is another popular tactic in FM20. AMC there is almost completely useless in terms of either goals or assists. Wingers ain't too productive, lone striker is bit better than than in 4-3-3 wide, so that's a plus. But just two centre mids leave you exposed and teams playing 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 (with 3 centre mids) take advantage of that. At the end it turned out that flat 4-4-2 is the best and most successful tactics of them all. Perfect balance between strong offense and tight defense. Have used many variations of 4-4-2 in terms of player instructions. Used 2 AFs or 2 PFs, done multiple combinations in the middle line - wide playmakers, inside wingers, BWM+BBM, DLP+BBM and others. Whatever suits my players best. Everything works. Defense? 2 BPDs and 2 wingbacks on support. Voila. Done. I play this game for 20 years and for the first time ever I came to a conclusion, that 4-4-2 is the best tactics, hands down, in current version ofc. Good luck with anything else, we can make it work for us. But if anyone here didn't use 4-4-2 until today, why not give it a try?

main criticism is that playing to centre backs is better to playing to full back. CBs have a 360 degree range of passing whereas FBs only have 180, because they are by the edge of the pitch. Basically FBs are easier to press.
