It was so refreshing to see a sustainability content creator take a science-based approach to fluoride. So many people in the zero-waste space blindly accept the notion that "fluoride = bad" and it can be really frustrating for someone who DOES want it in their dental products. Thank you for voicing your own (evidence-based) view on the subject!

I never bothered reading up on flouride thing and just used my normal toothpaste. Why do people hate flouride?
@hillwalk24
@hillwalk24 3 жыл бұрын
@@valesth4903 Some people think it's meant to subdue the population but it was just added to water to combat tooth decay. But it's only doing that job as it's in the mouth. So there's no reason to drink it all day. I want flouride in my dental hygiene products but not in my water. It can leach lead and other heavy metals from aging pipes. I'm thankful Shelbi found a tooth tab with flouride. That's been on my needs list for awhile.

Your last swap reminded me of when I lived in South Korea, there were some restaurants that would have delivery food given to you on their own restaurant plates/bowls etc, and when you finished eating, you could just set everything outside your door and they would come back a few hours later to pick it up. I thought it was really neat! It would be cool if the US could do something similar.

Might be something they can do in the cities. I know out here in the more Tula areas it wouldn’t work unless you held onto it until your next order. Kinda like milk delivery.

I work at a consignment store and if you are worried about the virus being on the stuff, stuff sits in the back of the store for about a month or two just because we have so much, and I am sure most other second hand stores are about the same. If that makes anyone feel better about second hand shopping right now.

I’m still really new to thifting. I was going to try and update my wardrobe to be more capsule-like in 2020. Unfortunately, 2020 threw a wrench into budget and being out in public. I have no fear of insects, except a borderline irrational fear of bedbugs (based on difficulty to exterminate). Do you have any tips, advice, or general knowledge about cleanliness or preventative measures? Am I completely overreacting? Thank you and best wishes for 2021!

Most of the glass jars aren’t tempered glass, so they may break with a hot coffee poured in them, etc. A Canadian youtuber reminded his viewers of this. Anyways, Happy Housewarming to you! I was at a second-hand store the other day cruising around for sports bras and happened upon a Tiffin. I was like, "What was this supposed to be for? Oh, $6. Well... if I don't wind up using it for lunches I'll find some other storage use for it." Then on the way home, I remembered that you can't microwave metal (obviously, lol) so lunch use is out. I guess it goes to show how much I trust your information that I purchased this thing and I didn't even remember why I needed it except that you said so. Then, just now, you remind us it's for when you go to a restaurant and need to take home leftovers. YES! That's the reason!! As a petite person, I'm talking home at least half my food from every restaurant I go to so now I am super happy to have something to replace the endless foam boxes which can't be recycled. Great video! I started using my journey about a year ago. I used up all my products like shampoo, body wash, hand soap, detergent etc but instead of getting rid of the containers I found a local refill shop and have been using the same containers ever since. Since then the shop has expanded and we now get a lot of our food from there too; pasta, rice, hot chocolate, tea bags, cereal, all in containers from home. It’s made such a difference. I can still see much more I can do but it’s all a process. Getting lots of ideas.

This year is about my health and the planet health. Going to purchase the leaf shave next because I cannot live without a nice shave but I’m terrified of safety razors lol but leaf shave (tho pricy) make the convenience of a disposable razor in safety razor format. Also decided to eat less packaged snacks for more fruits instead (trying to get some as close to plastic free packaging as possible). Sorry for the long comment but you really helped me get my true eco friendly start.

I would love to be the kind of spokesperson you are in my own town. I live in South Africa and there are very few of the products you recommend without having to pay $$$$ for shipping (as well as the carbon emissions impact). Hopefully I can find swaps that make sustainable living a bit easier here 🇿🇦🥰

My in laws got a kick out of the box 😂 for 2021a new "swap" for us is buying used baby clothes/items as we prepare for our first baby due in April. Buying used clothes despite my mom thinking it's "gross" 🥴 I'm happy to come here where people don't think I'm weird for it 🥰

I used to bring tiffin to school when I was in grade 8 and got bullied. I felt so embarassed and stop using it since then. Don't judge me, I was 11 years old back then. Cannot deny that it's so comfortable to carry and use. I like how they stack together.

Oof I don't think I could use dish soap for hand soap or vice versa, because dish soap is so much more concentrated. I've accidentally used hand soap on my dishes before and it didn't get them clean, and I've used dish soap on my hands a few times in a pinch and my hands started to dry out super quickly. Then again my hands tend to get dry super easily and I live in a place that's very cold and dry for half the year

@@Shelbizleee shelby, dish soap is totally different than hand soap! dish soap strips away oils harshly. hand soap gives some oil and moisture back to the hands and have a different ph (skin neutral). soap is not soap. soaps are VERY different!!!!

As a dentist I almost screamed with joy when you talked about the fluoride! There's so much conspiracy about it, as you mentioned, and people end up thinking it's bad for you, when actually it's something ESSENTIAL for a good oral health. I live in Brazil and here all the more sustainable toothpaste brands don't contain fluoride :( It's one of my biggest struggles/dilemmas when trying to live a more sustainable life :/

I'm so excited about the tooth tabs in the US WITH FLOURIDE. It's been driving me insane that US zero waste companies would only make fluoride-free tooth tabs (made especially absurd when those brands would flavor the tooth tabs with peppermint ESSENTIAL OILS, which are super dangerous to consume even in very ver small quantities, instead of food-grade peppermint extract 🤦‍♀️). Thank you for constantly searching for sustainable brands and keeping us up to date on your finds. 😊❤️

you should try the rocketbook! it’s a reusable notebook, and you write on it with the pen sent with it, and then you can just use water to get the ink off. and to keep notes, you download the rocketbook app, and you can scan the pages

I am so glad you mentioned SodaStream! I am from Hungary, live in Austria. I basically only drink fizzy water - I am just not a fan of how still water tastes for some reason-, and since I got my Soda Stream 2 years ago I didnt buy one fizzy drink in a plastic bottle. And honestly, it's so much cheaper as well. Here the refills cost 8 euros, which is literally the cost of 6 sodas, and I have fizzy water (to my liking) for over a month with one refill. I just love it, it's definitely a basic item for me that I use every day ❤️

I would recommend checking out the channel MIgardener. He is in Michigan, so definitely cold weather like Illinois. He has some videos about cold weather gardening. You can’t really grow enough to live off of in the winter, but there are certain varieties of things like kale, radishes, etc that are extremely cold tolerant and will grow through December and beyond.
