Hot take, but zero-waste swaps aren’t always going to be the most functional version of a product you’ve ever used (sometimes they are tho!). By buying an eco friendly product, you’re accepting the fact that we have harmed the environment to convenience ourselves. It’s not always gonna be easy to stop using these convenience products, but for me I’m fine working a little harder to keep stuff out of landfill.

I think many of these swaps have an upfront cost of wither just money or time spent looking for the best fit for you, so that people who are "casually" eco-conscious get put off from trying. I feel like you really have to shop around for good bamboo toothbrushes. Many of the brands I tested made me bleed from the raw ends of the wood (on the outside, not like bleeding gums from brushing too hard) and some had also much too big heads. But I found one shape that's okay, so I can just rebuy that brand if my current brush ever needs replacing. If I wasn't so keen on swapping, I could easily see myself switching back after the first failed attempts

I agreed a lot on the fact that I don't find a reusable straw useful. But as she explains in many videos, we don't have too and if some people always used once, why not not buying a sustainable one. I personally ended up buying one because I was struggling more often to drink water out of a glass... Yes it might looks ridiculous but until I find a way to fix my body, it is helpful to me today to avoid swallowing water the wrong way.

I was hesitant to buy Stasher bags because of the price, but after doing some research it really does seem like the consensus is that they are the best and that you get what you pay for. The trouble is that while I don't use that many plastic bags, when I do use them it's almost always in the freezer. So I don't get the bags back for months!

I tried bamboo toothbrushes and the taste is definitely strange to get used to, but my bigger problem personally is that they do unfortunately cost more than plastic toothbrushes (which may not be inconvenient for some folks, but can be harder to fit into a tight budget) and the bristles don't hold up as well, so I felt as if I needed to replace more frequently than an average toothbrush... which then meant extra spending on tooth brushes.

I have a miisto and haven’t mastered it yet, I do think the instructions leave something to be desired. My mom has a thing with the texture of wood and cardboard, like she absolutely cannot touch it, so something like cardboard packaging or a bamboo toothbrush is something she absolutely will not do. I will say that Pela's self care brand (Habitat) has a plastic free deodorant with a shorter, wider cardboard applicator that does not have the issue that Native's design does and I've found the fragrance to be more intense (which I personally like). I gave this feedback to Native when I cancelled my subscription and let them know I would reinstate if corrected. I used the trick to workaround the design flaw, but it's tough to use to the end whereas Habitat's I easily could use with the applicator until I hit bottom without the base flipping over and falling out.

I switched to bamboo toothbrushes and I loved them but they got lost when I had an emergent move into an RV and had to drive 45 minutes to get one or go 3 days without a toothbrush so I went to a plastic toothbrush and I hate it. That being said, this toothbrush will eventually be boiled and then used as a cleaning brush

Okay so if you're someone who DESPERATELY tried to use misto & couldn't get it I just ended up with a spritz bottle & that has ended up being a great solution! Sorry Misto fans, we tried for a year & it was a little rough, lol.

I love when you review eco-friendly products. I learn a lot from you about these kinds of things. Please keep up the good work.

I just started using native fragrance free. I’m allergic to a lot of fragrances. I’m using recyclable packaging. Yes it does slide down is it a big deal no. I just simply squeeze the sides just like Shelby.

The thing I don’t like about Stasher bags is that they’re smaller than regular ziploc bags and they don’t have a 2.5 gallon size. The opening in the bags aren’t as wide as ziploc either.

was hoping to see a review and your thoughts on those metal lunch boxes because I love them so much, have used them all my life. here in India it's a staple, everyone uses them. but oh well

What are your thoughts on the electric bamboo brushes like Sustainable Tomorrow? I have always used an electric brush and never had a cavity so I’d like to stick with it. My current brush is not compatible with the bamboo heads. Is it worth switching to the Sustainable Tomorrow brush to use the bamboo heads? Thanks :)

As to the Misto, I don't use a product like that. I had purchased another brand that just didn't work AT all, and probable ended up in a landfill after I returned it, which made me feel awful. But my hack for this is to use a tiny bowl and pour maybe a tablespoon of oil into it, then use a silicon basting brush to give a very light coat into whatever pan I'm using. It works PERFECTLY. I also have never liked the spray getting everywhere in my kitchen (it seems like no matter how careful you are, there's always some overspray). Anyway, there's another idea.

Now, I’ve never owned a Pela phone case before. I haven’t needed to replace my old one yet. But I recommended the brand to my sister, because I’ve heard great things about it. And I’ll most likely get one when I need a new case. However, my sister did not like her Pela case. She would give it a bad review if she left one. It was falling apart, it started fading a lot, and the back of the phone cracked one time she dropped it. This all happened within a few months. Great video, as always!

I got an oil sprayer from a second hand shop, and loved it for aaages. But over time it's just clogged and lost pressure, and I've had no success in unclogging. I still have it in cupboard, apparently hoping that a little pixie will come along and magically fix it.

My only thoughts are to try soaking it in various things and giving it a good scrub with a brush. But I'm guessing you've tried soap, and may have tried vodka and rubbing alcohol. It might almost be better to see if you can find a replacement part for the but that's clogged

@@harmonicaveronica I've not tried vodka, thank you!

I had that same experience with the bamboo toothbrush. I thought I wouldn’t be able to stand it but after a couple weeks I was totally used to it! Doesn’t bother me at all anymore

This is true of plant-based foods too! Some of my FAVORITE things to eat also have terrible reviews from meat eaters who the product isn't even targeting!! Like idc if you love your animal meat, but let me enjoy my beyond nuggies!!

LOVE LOVE LOVE my Stasher bags! As for toothbrushes, I have used the bamboo brush and had not issues with the taste. Surprising as I often have issues with a lot of things like that (I have had trouble using plastic flatware since childhood). Currently, I use a motored toothbrush, as muscle weakness and pain has made it difficult to brush my teeth adequately these days. If you know of a power brush that is more eco-friendly, that would be awesome.

Picked up a discounted Native deodorant from a closeout store. I honestly didn't have high hopes but holy shit, it's amazing. I have really sensitive skin and was nervous that it had baking soda, since another deodorant i really liked started giving me a bad rash. It smells great and works really well for me. Just ordered a 3 pack and am sooo excited

Almost all the products are way out of my budget, a goal of mine is the Stasher bags, but till then I keep using my plastic bags, wash them and reuse them.

I must say I also thought that the bamboo toothbrushes tasted bad when I first started using one. I wanted to keep trying though so I figured “well my teeth don’t have tastebuds” I just started brushing my teeth and gums while avoiding my tongue til the end. Years later I still use bamboo toothbrushes and it’s taste is not an issue at all.
