My biggest brush advice tbh is at first just find ones that are fun for you to use, you're more likely to keep drawing and making art if its more fun and enjoyable for you
@furrylittlepeach7 ай бұрын
Exactly! Which is why I think we should try all the brushes! Something that I didn't say in the video but that I think is you may love the look of a brush but not love using it - sometimes there will be brushes that just feel right!

I would totally agree that tools do not make the biggest difference. I came to the realization in art school when a professor had us make a huge art piece using nothing but ballpoint pens. And the piece I made turned out amazing and everyone else also creating amazing pieces of work. All from pens that cost us less than $7 😭❤️

Thank you so much for this video! I loved hearing your perspective on how you’re trying to inject your traditional and digital work with the other medium’s charm! This is something I’m discovering for myself! I’m a commercial graphic designer with very illustrative work. And gotten stuck in the very clean minimalist approach. I need to get back to the traditional roots and get some personality up in here!

Thank you sooooo much Shaan!!! I just got a new iPad Pro 13 and pro create for my birthday and have been looking up everything I can to learn how to draw digitally. It’s new for me as I draw on paper normally. ❤❤ 😊

The slidey screen takes some getting used to for sure! Some people buy paperlike screens to remedy it because apparently it feels more like paper but you eventually get used to it :-) be patient with urself and have fun! That's the best way to learn!

I’d say with any app, it’s very overwhelming to get started. Especially if there are lots of tools to use. My top advice would be to start with on tool or brush and play with that. Going into an app with the expectation of creating a finished piece of artwork can create a lot of frustration. My second advice is often, accept that a digital medium is going to look and feel different than physical work. Each brush has different settings so playing with the smoothness and tapering can do a lot of with helping a brush feel more custom to your preferences.

I think I’ve only purchased one brush pack because realizing that TOOL ≠ SKILL was a huge epiphany for me. Limitations really do breed creativity. Another fun thing to do with the Brush Studio is edit the Hue Jitter ( slightly for a subtle look or massively for tons of fun color variation ) OR my favorite thing; go into the Brush Studio > Properties & under Brush Behavior crank the ‘maximum size’ setting up to get larger brushes or create fun textures with say, a pencil brush. Lovely vid ✌🏻 thanks for sharing!

hey sha'an, after watching your videos for years and seeing you rave about squarespace, it got me inspired to start a website! i was wondering though which template do you use and if maybe you could recommend some tips on how to make your squarespace website aesthetic and cute. thanks 💕😊

I agree that Procreate is great for fun sketching and Fresco for drawing in vector (though I have been enjoying Kyle Webster’s pixel brushes in Fresco more lately). What do you usually like to use Illustrator for? I’ve played around with it some but it’s still a tricky one for me.
@furrylittlepeach7 ай бұрын
I create illos in fresco and then finalise them in illustrator (delete unecessary points etc) and export as an EPS there. Kyle has just announced he's moving to Procreate - did you see?

Offtopic question! I've already asked another aussie children's book illustrator, but wanted to see if it's similar for you. Since you work in children's books often or have a more child at heart style, do you notice you get a lot of parenting/baby related ads? Since working in children's ministry and just finding my own way of children's books, I've noticed most of my ads are indeed related to kiddos/parents or the occasional pregnancy prevention ones too. Yet another artist I follow said she does not get them if at all. Likely sounds like a coincidence, but maybe it's a regional thing?
@furrylittlepeach7 ай бұрын
Wait i dont feel like i get them, but it might just be based on what we're googling or hovering over too! Do you feel like u google stuff related to ur work or watch content related to it?
@hiddentidesgaming7 ай бұрын
@@furrylittlepeach Maybe both? I'm not entirely sure. I started getting lots of mom related content showing up after starting to help with kids crafts, mostly watching ones that were tutorials for crafts/ideas with kiddos. Then all the algorithms seemed to have lined up to mostly these sorts of ads?
