Sheet material such as Plywood, MDF and OSB are fantastic to work with. They are really versatile and easily available at your local DIY hardware store. The awkwardness comes when it's time to decide what joinery method to use. So in this video I'm going to show you my favourite joinery method for sheet material.

thank you for showing various joins. good to see a British joiner, I watch a lot of woodwork channels, and when its other countries, you often don't get the same supplies. At least I know I can get what is recommended! Awesome video.

I've never seen this, a great way to utilise ply without an expensive domino jointer. One thing to remember is with the second method, the reference face is Important if the router bit isn't dead centre, if the ply can go either way up, no problem. Great video Joe ! 👍👌

Cheers Jeff! I always like a simple solution haha very true about the second method. Need to make sure you’re referencing the same outside faces to make sure it’s flush unless you have the bit perfectly centred 👍

Great content, thank you very much. Just wondered to myself, considering the shims you cut were 18 mm x 6 mm then is it okay that your cut depths total 19 mm combined? Thank you.

Like a domino but with an extra £1000 in your pocket 😂 A good little tip is to lightly sand a few of these pieces and write on them for use when dry fitting your work. I do the same thing with dominos as they can sometimes be a pain to pull back out again before the glue up.
@AverageJoesJoinery
@AverageJoesJoinery 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly 😂 Thats a good shout, sanding them a little thinner would make for fast assembly 👍

If you were using 11mm OSB would you still use a router bit.... If so what size?

It works great in a router table too. I tend to use it in a palm router for speed of set up though :)

I’ve tried this and the biscuits are really loose. Defiantly no need to hammer them in! The bit is 6.3mm and mfd is 6mm thick so is that the issue?

Two questions, Whats a hammer, im still using my ommer. Also what happened to the chair you built on tv, did you get to keep it?

On a similar note to the other comments, I've liked the thought of dominos but had no justification to actually buy another tool. Just gave that a go on some scrap MDF and its GREAT! I was a little skeptical about the play in the join but it meant that i was able to line up the faces near perfect. Hardly any setup, just eyeballed it and it came out close enough (atleast this time). Nice Video, Thanks for the "how to"!
