Join us on a route I've been wanting to do for a long time ~ The Coledale Horseshoe. The Winter conditions were absolute perfection and I’m excited to share this day's hike with you.
We take in the 5 Wainwright peaks from the traditional route (Grisedale Pike, Crag Hill, Sail, Outerside & Barrow) plus 2 extras (Scar Crags & Causey Pike). This clocks in just shy of 11 miles / 17.5 km. We begin and finish the route in the village of Braithwaite.
It all sounds like a Hobbit adventure!
Aside from the views, we encounter a couple of beautiful creatures along the way.
All in all, another magical day in the Lake District!
I’m so happy to be back sharing another video with you. If you enjoy it, please do leave a comment as I love hearing from you and you’ll also be helping my video find its way to others.
Thanks for watching :)

New to the Channel? ♥
Hi, I’m Chloe. I grew up in the lovely Devonshire countryside though, seeking wilder and more rugged landscape, now live in Cumbria on the edge of the Lake District with my husband Ryan and our springer spaniel, Cam.
Join us on our adventures in the fells.
We love wild camping and swimming, climbing, hiking the Wainwrights, scrambling, fell running and exploring historical sites.
I hope our videos give you a moment of calm and cosiness and a little inspiration to get out on your own adventures.

Hi Chloe.. The Coledale horseshoe is a most excellent ramble around some of the fantastic fells of north lakeland... From Grisedale Pike, a detour onto Hopegill head & Grasmoor before the yomp upon to Eel crag (as its called in my Wainwright guide book & is the original name).. down to Sail with bait on the pinnical of Causey pike with Outerside & Barrow bringing you back down to Braithwaite.. Even had 4 youngn's ask if they could tag along on a day for them that was just gonna be Grisedale then back down. Thanks for you entertaing video.. was a delight to watch😉 Oh.. & if your ever in the Grisedale pike area again go find the christmas tree on Habcarton end (on a path that starts as scree & becomes a cairned path) Keep safe, have fun & enjoy Lakeland

Lovely film of a walk that I know like the back of my hand (partially given my family home is on some shots). Even though I'm now in Switzerland, surrounded by 3000m + mountains there's something about the approachability of those Lakeland fells that makes them so appealing (well at least when they're not full). I was interested that you had a coat on your spaniel. Our springer is quite happy at least down to -20c without a coat and loves rolling in snow, the deeper and more powdery the better. As long as you keep moving they're OK.
@FablesandFells
@FablesandFells Жыл бұрын
Thanks, it must be lovely to be in Switzerland amongst such spectacular mountains. I believe the summer meadows are also stunning. Ahh he definitely needs a coat as he hasn't got a thick coat and is pretty lean. We also have high humidity levels here, as I'm sure you know, and not so much of that nice powdery snow.
@AndrewMarritt
@AndrewMarritt Жыл бұрын
@@FablesandFells Thanks. They're like the lakeland fells but on a much bigger scale and of course with glaciers and thinner air. Most of our local peaks need proper climbing kit and ideally a guide to get all the way to the top so there's no real culture like doing the Wainwrights. I do get to start though at over twice the height of Grizedale Pike. I found your channel as I was starting to plan my summer wild camping above the treeline with the dog. The snow here will probably have melted in June this year so it's getting close.

Amazing! I really like your video style - and the 30 seconds of just relaxing with the deep breaths! That was perfect! Love the narration - both of the land/hiking and personal thoughts, editing, and audio! But that scenery!!! You're fortunate to hike there! My immediate plans are not nearly as fun or exciting - foot surgery in two weeks. It will be my 3rd since September '21, and REALLY hoping it's the last. If all goes well with the surgery and recovery, the fun plans are some local trails (east coast US) by June and Iceland in July!!!

Music makes it better than sound of wind in microphone. Those peaks, views, solitude in open spaces. Amazing.. I thought that solitude can be found in forests only, especially in Alaska or Rocky mountains. Hope its not crowded during summer. i know you start at dusk but maybe there are chances of solitude in the afternoon?
@FablesandFells
@FablesandFells Жыл бұрын
The Lakes do get busy in the summer months but so many people stick to a few beauty spots so those get really crowded and the quieter (no less beautiful) fells have fewer souls! If it's sunny, you're probably going to see others though!

I’m absolutely loving these. I was planning on getting a German shepherd dog in September to go walking with me, but now seriously wondering whether I should get a springer spaniel. He’s gorgeous 👍
@FablesandFells
@FablesandFells 10 ай бұрын
Ahh they are such characters, so entertaining. I know you haven't asked for input, but can I just share some thoughts in case you're new to spaniels 😅 (Obviously take it or leave it.) Walking on a lead can be a big challenge for spaniels (you can have a look at the FB group "Training Spaniels with Reward Based Training" to see other people's experiences - lead walking crops up constantly). They are bred to be off leash, searching and flushing, they don't walk naturally, they run, so most of our daily walks are in woodland and fields so he gets to just be a spaniel. When hiking or walking through much of the countryside he has to be on a lead because of sheep (they're everywhere 😅). That flushing behaviour can run riot in the countryside so you have to be quite active with their training. I have a dog business so I've put a lot of work into providing him with enough mental stimulation and outlets (they're very switched on). He's wonderful, so in tune with me, so affectionate, so great off lead (had to get that work in early as many people struggle off leash with them too), I've also managed to calm him down in highly stimulating environments (again more work) but lead walking is still a challenge despite devoting so much to it. Just some things to think about. I absolutely love spaniels but working lines especially can be more than you bargain for if you're looking for chilled countryside walks 😄
@Melch4
@Melch4 10 ай бұрын
@@FablesandFells I really appreciate you taking the time to give me some input. I’ve never had a spaniel before but I’ve also never had a German shepherd, so both would be new to me. The plan was to get a German shepherd in September but seeing your adorable spaniel last time has seriously put me in two minds. We are willing to put a lot of effort and work in to training whichever we decide on and I think your reply to me was fantastic. By the way, your videos are stunningly beautiful, the only channel of this kind where it really feels like ya there 👍
