Ordered this exact laptop during Lenovo's sale. Great to see a review on it. Mine shipped today.

I really dig the size of this laptop. That larger trackpad is always a big plus. The click buttons right above the trackpad is always a fav thing of mine. I always thumb click on the trackpad in the wrong spot all the time. So having those 3 button right above the trackpad is a win for me. Even though it's through the KZbin player, I can tell that screen is amazing. Pops out a damn good bit. The red and the green of the grass and the blue of the water. The sound ranging between 60db to 75db is nice. Loud, but not like an alarm going off in a store. Kicking it up to a peak of 80db still isn't too bad.

So glad you did a comparison between Gen 4 and Gen 5. I own a Gen 4 model and I was wondering if I was missing anything. It turns out, not much.

A laptop that needs to be constantly plugged in, with its OLED display and 52Wh battery resulting in less than 4 hours of battery life during light browsing, and with fans that are always spinning. This laptop was a huge disappointment for me. Even with the crazy cheap price I got it for (~$1150 USD 8840HS/OLED/64GB ram), I still ended up returning it.
@christosbinos8467Ай бұрын
It's a shame isn't it? Even strange in my view, that the intel model has a larger battery option and better display choices also.

Just what I needed to hear to not buy it. I hate fan noise and poor battery and this wouldn’t work for me then.

4 hours is battery life from 10 years ago with Ivy Lake CPU. ridiculous

That display is putting out a lot of pixels, could that be the reason? What did you end up switching to?

I picked up a T14 Gen 5 (Ryzen 7 Pro and 16GB/512GB) on sale recenlty for just under CAD$1,100 due to Lenovo's weekend sale and a promo code. Absolute steal tbh

Great video! I like that it’s a bit smaller than Gen 4. What are your thoughts on the build quality and materials used? It looks like Gen 5 is made of all plastic now, versus a hybrid of materials that was used in previous generations.

@miscwork-qb7pdАй бұрын
@@christosbinos8467You get more bang for buck in Lenovo's cheaper consumer ranges, the yogas or thinkbooks. Granted you sacrifice a lot of build quality, but chipset and performance wise they're the same for a much cheaper price. I'm sure some still care about build and swappable RAM, that's why I'm interested in what kind of person would spend premium for that

No, the P14s is the same machine as the T14. The T14s is a slimmer machine with soldered RAM. At least that's how it used to be. Confusing I know.

@BurbananaАй бұрын
sad to see they put a big battery (75wh?) in the Intel version and stuck with the small 57wh in this one.
@christosbinos8467Ай бұрын
Yeah this was a real shame for me to... 75wh on the intel version + far better display options. I've been researching different Lenovo laptops for a couple of days. I have to say they make the experience very convoluted with their naming, gens (that sometimes have nonsensical differences) and and then differences on AMD vs Intel that are not just the chip.
@BurbananaАй бұрын
@@christosbinos8467 From my experience, all manufacturers except one or two tend to limit options for AMD models a lot. Both in terms of RAM (yoga pro 7), display options, battery, premium features etc. I don't want a meteor lake laptop so I am holding off for more Lunar Lake and Ryzen Strix / Hawk Point stuff

This year with Gen 5 there is a huge difference between AMD variants of T14 and P14s. Different CPUs, different max RAM. And for Intels T14 and P14s are just two totally different devices.

Wow, and what is the software? Looks like Lenovo always downgrade refresh rate on ThinkPads.
@adequatequalityАй бұрын
The ThinkPad refresh rate has always been 60hz for most of the models until recently when they gave a 120hz option on the X1 Carbon if you spec it up. They've however always had a 45% NTSC screen as the "base" model display which really sucks

ThinkPad was designed by IBM and built like tank to last forever cannot be compared with any laptop not even MacBook. But now Lenovo owns it and quality is going down but still better than most of the laptops in market.

I just got this exact laptop a few days ago and have spent some time with it. I also have a new IdeaPad and wanted to compare the two. For me it's the ThinkPad hands down. The ThinkPad feels like a tank, very high quality and these are the specs I wanted. The screen is fantastic and not glossy. The IdeaPad is also super nice but has more flex and doesn't feel as high quality. The specs are similar but the IdeaPad has a glossy touch oled screen. I don't miss the touch screen or the glossy. I prefer the trackpad on the ThinkPad by far. Ports are better on the ThinkPad plus it's repairable and upgradable. Taking it to Europe and it should survive traveling much better. Returning the IdeaPad.

Why can't they just make their FREAKEN legion laptops like they make their thinkpads. I am selling my rx6600m ryzen 5 5600H legion laptop for a thinkpad x13 with a 7840U, because I miss have physical mouse buttons? I like gaming with a trackpad because my hands are never far away from the keyboard and it makes me less incompetent in games like monster hunter and cs2, the clickpads in the lenovo legion 5 laptops are awful and the lack of mouse buttons makes it unusable for gaming for myself. I am downgrading my performance for a better overall user experience. As far as build quality goes, thinkpads are king. And most gaming laptops/portable workstations are just really bad, feel cheap, sharp angles, make you look stupid/attracts bad attention, and are extremely loud with a dumb ass fan/exhaust that sticks out of the back.
