@@MashITTechI think the thing that keeps me away from stuff other than the T series is the battery life and performance. It cut deep when I saw that this Gen 5 was worse off on battery life. I’m window shopping to see if there was anything worth upgrading to from my Gen 2 T14S (AMD). Looks like I might just keep waiting.

Thank you for your test. I've owned the Gen4 AMD since last year and it's still the best laptop of my life. I'm so happy with it, it's a great overall package. The battery still holds up, the display is a blast (I use a screen protector and it makes it even better), I voluntarily type on the Thinkpad keyboard instead of the expensive desktop keyboard, I still like the feel of the surface. It's easy to clean. It's absolutely silent when I'm browsing or using office applications. I think the Gen 5 will certainly be a little better overall, but I'll be using my Gen4 for a long time to come. Best regards

With the new AMD5 out with AI, this will hopefully get discounted as it is old news. Bearing in mind that AI will become a major feature, and if you aim to keep a laptop for 5-7 years, I recommend waiting for the new AMD AI-certified versions. AI may not be compelling at the moment, but having tasted Apple Intelligence, I know the potential is there, and I certainly would not recommend anyone in August 2024 to buy a non-AI machine (Co-Pilot). Also, having the LPDDR5X superfast 8000Mhz RAM would mean better performance in most tasks, including AI, and I can see why AMD did not want to be second-class and now have soldered RAM in their latest release. The RAM in this is a negative for a laptop you will keep for up to seven years, especially as there is no sign that SODIMM will have that fast RAM as LPCAMM2 takes up that fight. But if you are happy with these limitations and, most importantly, get a good deal, this is a solid ultrabook for some. But it would be sensible to wait for the new Intel, more AMD releases and the astonishing performant M4 in the next 2-3 months.

I have 2 questions to your preferred display choice: the 1920x1200 IPS Anti-Glare, Non-Touch, 400 nits, 60Hz, 100% sRGB, Low Power, Low Blue Light: 1. does the blue light filter influence the color white? So does the panel still shows a true white or is it more green or yellow? 2. isn't the low power panel a slower one? What about ghosting? Is it noticeable when watching 60fps videos? I am asking because I have a similar panel (same specs) in my HP Elitebook 14 G10 (AMD 7540U) and both points are a big issue with it. Thanks a lot!

I think build quality was better (maybe this one looks just nicer) now there is some gap on the corners between display and bottom case. When I press bottom case I can hear some noise (clicking). The whole body fell less sturdy then gen 1 (I can see when I hold in on one edge how comple case is flipping). 14:47 Also even when just typeing email the fan kick in 😢. The battery life is limited by the actual size and internal design choices because the CPU and screen is the exact same as last year's model that has much better battery life. You can't really modify the device physically regardless of how many firmwarre updates are pushed. That's just one of the downfalls of this year's T14

@@adequatequality true but I guess software still has contributions on how it manages the battery of the hardware, so a firmware update could potentially fix and improve some issues

@@peterboil4064 perhaps, but if you're outside and you get 6+- hours compared to the 10+- hours last gen. That's a huge difference, and I can in my own opinion call it trash.

This explains why the Gen 4 went from £1500 for the spec I want to £920. After owning 2 Ryzen Laptops, I will not go anywhere near Intel (although the same applies for Desktop right now) Still torn on discounted Gen 4 vs Gen 5

@@MashITTech thanks for the feedback. If the CPU was actually different and not a refresh with higher power draw, maybe that'd change things. The Gen 5 looks nicer, but it's not worth all the extra cash and worse battery life.

What are the main differences between this model and P14s gen5 amd if under the same specs?
@adequatequality
@adequatequality 3 ай бұрын
The build and design is pretty much the same except you get the HS series of the AMD processors on the P14s, some ISV certifications, an a RJ45 ethernet port. If you don't care about any of that, I would say the T14 Gen 5 is the better option due to the U series AMD processors which won't have the loud fan noise and excess heat issues as on the P14s

Hi im Troy McCleure. You may remember me from the first T14 video 😂. I still have my Gen 1 T14 Ryzen. Whats the difference, is it a massive upgrade? I can play all the games I want to already alongside work and media consumption etc, so I guess not.

hahaha that was my first video ever! Looks so bad when I watch it now 🤣 IT is a large upgrade in CPU and a good upgrade in GPU performance over the years but if your current T14 still performs well I would wait for sure. There is a Ryzen mobile cpu coming next year with a huge GPU increase so definitely wait for that!

thermals have been great on heavy load. As an example when running a game of dota which pegs the CPU and GPU, this laptop can hold a solid 24w on balanced and 28w on load. My Gen 4 with 7780u starts at 24/28 but slowly drops to 15w/20w over time which is really annoying
