My FERRARI F430 CAUGHT ON FIRE during a TEST DRIVE

Well, this wasn't exactly how I expected today to go. I had finished up the Project Ferrari F430, installed the new engine mounts, and installed the new headers. The headers must have had something wrong with the ceramic coating and during the test drive, the ceramic coating caught fire!
I want to make it very clear, this is not the fault of Fabspeed, nor of All American Wheel Pros. Any accusations about them being at fault will be removed.

If there's any sort of silver lining to this, I suppose you can probably get a few more videos worth of content out of fixing the fire damage.

I've been following your channel since you started and this showed how talented you are at not only repairing cars, but also getting through every car guy's nightmare (I had oil drip onto a hot exhaust manifold when I owned a Lotus Esprit and had the same view through my rear view mirror). Also, your editing and music have improved. Your videos have more momentum now. Keep up the good work and although I'm a Lambo guy (2003 manual Murcielago and 2013 Aventador), you have really made Ferrari ownership cool. Spydah3kgt I remember when I got straight pipes on my 03 Viper, had some smoke burn off and that was about it. This video may scare you but I can assure the 430’s are great cars! I drive the piss out of Dans old 430 and she has been great! Other than regular maint. from a typical 15yr+ old vehicle, its been good👍👍 I recommend a 430👌

Spydah3kgt I recommend you don't buy one especially if you live in CA. You cannot run aftermarket headers because they're not designed with cats inside them. You're stuck to oem v1 and v2 headers which are prone to breaking easily. Don't waste your money on this junk.

That O2 sensor wire appears to be bent and crimped. The extra length required by the mini cat...So sorry, Dan. All that work. Dan sorry to see this happened to you. Glad you are safe. You took such great care of your cars. I hope you figure things out. My guess is you have a fuel leak near the driver side fuel tank. The white smoke was fuel vaporizing on the headers. Once you stepped on the gas the headers got hot enough to ignite the fuel. Possible when the engine was temporarily lifted for the mounts the fuel line might have stretched or got caught making a small leak. F430 are also known to have the fuel pump plastic tops to leak. Good luck.

My first guess would be the ceramic coating on the headers was the first problem. Even the best coatings would have a hard time with the heat from headers. Exhaust is OK but that gets lots of airflow to cool down.

Tough as it might sound, take a deep breath, a day off, a cuddle off Mo and Meg and then... Dan bad things happen to good people sometimes. I was getting my affairs ready to bid. Wanted to see the latest and whammo. The car obviously got the Ferrari Covid. I think you handled it very well. Remind your viewers to carry an extinguisher at all times in their car. There are clean agents that are very effective but leave no residue. They are a bit expensive but worth every penny when your car carries a six figure auction price. Good luck Dan, we are staying optimistic. It was only a cigarette butt someone left in from the factory.
