My Fiancé Declutters My Entire Closet + We Redid Our Bedroom!

I love how we keep clothes that we don’t completely like everything about, or doesn’t fit quite right, and Will just jumps with the “Oh easy, donate”. Like, why do we keep things we don’t like or doesn’t fit. Those two qualities specifically would keep us from choosing those clothes to wear, but I still have the hardest time getting rid of them. Its the weirdest mental block lol.

It’s called “imaginary self” I figured! We like the idea of things, but they don’t suit the real us. I had this a lot with certain styles of clothes, I loooove boho style, vintage etc.. when I look at people that wear those clothes I think it’s so beautiful, I get it, but when I put it on myself - it doesn’t look good on me. But I wanna have the thing because it serves my imagination of what I’d like it to look like on me. Like having books that you never read but keep as representation of who you want to be/look like you know?

When you put a monetary value on clothing, or when you purchase it somewhere special, we look at the clothing for the memories it holds rather than the memories we would have wearing it

We all need a Will for deciding about our closet. Although I'm my own Will so I basically don't buy anything because I always find something not to like and at the same time hate everything I own because I've worn it too long already. So I actually need an Arden for my closet 😂

Hey Arden! One tip that may be helpful with clothes is separating your memory storage from “I would wear this again” ones, so those pieces that you wanna wear won’t lose in a pile of everything else? Like having a box of memorabilia that you know you only keep for the sake of having the item, not using it. It helped me a ton to separate things into different categories like that, so when I open up a certain section, I know exactly what it is and don’t become overwhelmed or blinded by looking at everything mixed up.

Arden, it’s honestly so refreshing to hear you talk about how long you’ve had material things in your possession. You and Will are such a breath of fresh air and honestly hearing you talk about how long you keep stuff and still find use for it makes me want to do the same. I feel like now, especially, it’s easy to get sucked into buying things in the spur of the moment without really considering the longevity of it and bc of you two I want to start getting more use out of my stuff and donating a lot I don’t use. One thing I love to do with my closet after going through I put everything back with the hangers backwards or inside out and if it’s not turned by the following year I get rid of it! It’s really helped me get rid of things I’m unsure about. Love Wills commentary.

I truly believe the designer/brand of an item shouldn't have anything to do with your decision to keep or get rid of an item! Don't feel guilty about getting rid of something just because it's a brand you normally wear, you support their ethics, it was expensive etc. If you don't vibe with the item anymore, then it's not benefiting you and its gotta go

Try some draped semi-sheer curtains!! If you hang them closer to the ceiling and drape them around it, then I think the window will seem so much bigger and like a beautiful feature! You could go neutral or tie in color from your future rug :)

Wooooow. The rooom changed so much when you swapped that chest of drawers, it's amazing. The rug is a great idea Arden, maybe something in a darker beige colour or with a lot of texture would look great. I also recommend either accent wall behind the bed or maybe a gallery wall somewhere, it might look nice with a TV attached to the wall and art around.
