As someone with crazy ADHD, I swear that decluttering really does change your life friends! When I learned how important cleaning was in the Japanese and Buddhist cultures, I did a deep declutter over 30 days as well! Now I clean about 15 minutes before every morning to really keep my peace and allow for my most efficient and intuitive moments throughout the day. I definitely recommend trying to incorporate this for all my neurodivergent folks and everyone looking to add a helpful habit to their morning routine. Much love friends. - Maha

I also have adhd and i've reached a breaking point with my mess so i've been slowly decluttering but have a long ways to go. staying organized has always been a weak spot for me but i've gotten rid of a few boxes of things and i already feel so much lighter and my mind is clearer (which is invaluable for us ND ppl!)

@@anna20812 I very much feel this! Everyday it feels like I have to reclaim every moment of my time. Like somehow my room becomes a mess still by the end of day and if I go a day or two without cleaning….sheesh. But I try to write every intention for the day down, then input it into this app called structured which helps keeps me accountable, and allow that to guide me. I also did a video on my page on reclaiming my time and energy, which includes a good morning routine as well. So hopefully one of these things can also be of assistance to you as well friend! :)

The tip about not going in chronological order is *gamechanging*, holy crap haha. I never thought about it that way, and I always struggle with the challenges because I don't like holding myself back to only get rid of one or two things when I'm excited and motivated, and then I eventually fall off and don't get to the days with larger decluttering numbers. I'm definitely trying this again, but picking whichever numbers suit my energy levels and time available each day!

Everyone please remember that you DONT need to get rid of things for the sake of decluttering. Don't create more waste than necessary. Only give away items you truly don't need or see any value in keeping anymore

leah's mins game tips! 1) make a cute tracker 2) go in the order that makes the most sense for you (forgo chronology) 3) split your room or house into smaller chunks 4) digital clutter 5) do two sweeps (of the same items/area) a few weeks apart 6) clothing + jewlery: is this a trend or do i see myself wearing/using this for the next ~10 years? how often would i wear it? 7) does this item significantly improve my life? 8) would i notice if this object went missing? (like the mins rule of "if you don't know you have it, get rid of it") 9) would i own this if i lived in a shared economy? 10) mirror motivation or go on a walk 11) know that you will feel stuck! have a little snack, go take a shower, take a breath, etc.

This video is a breath of fresh air in this crazy tiktok consumerism era! There’s a new trend every week and so many “unmissable” products that are just as good as any other thing you’ve seen before. Realising that we don’t need more things is so liberating sometimes! Thanks for the amazing video ❤️

There isn't really a "tik tok consumerism era" lol Consumerism has existed long before tik tok it's just shown online now. And it's probably not an "era" you just watched too many of those and that's why you got more of those recommended i.e think that it just happened recently. Just telling you that because it's important to know that our social media consumption and what we see is bias and does not reflect reality per se. No hate at all Take care ^^
@Jaesdaes
@Jaesdaes Жыл бұрын
@@unknowns78 i can agree with most of this. However, tiktok as certainly not helped with all of its micro-trends, and an algorithm that pushes them, along with the influx in awful fast fashion companies made popular by the app (think shein and temu), which certainly influences people more than if the app did not exist at all.

I gotta be honest that it's your algorithm/what you consume. My FYP has stuff that is basically decluttering because that's what I interact with more than anything. If yours has consumerist stuff...maybe (even though you're expressing a dissenting opinion) you're interacting with the media enough for the algorithm to be convinced you actually like this stuff. I also get a ton of healthy recipes and mocktail recipes and cute animals. Because that's what I interact with. Just be aware of that :D

I listened to the audio book the life changing magic of tidying up while I’m on the shower. Finished it after 5 showers I think. After that I got myself a Kindle and got rid of all my books and kept 3 faves. I burned all my journals cause I feel like I wouldn’t ever wanna look back of the things I’ve written. I got rid of 90% of my clothing and things that don’t serve me. It felt so easy to let go of the items that has sentimental values on it that I struggled to let go of. A few days after I decluttered I cried so hard not because of the things I’ve gotten rid of. I think it’s because all the clutter, and me putting off organizing are all gone. I can face my real demons now without all these distractions. I think decluttering put me in a better place than I was before.

This is an awesome idea. I’ve tried 30 Day Challenges before but motivation goes in peaks and troughs. No idea why it’s never occurred to me to just do a different day if my motivation isn’t where I want it to be. My brain would refuse to Do The Thing and would then say “Well? You failed your challenge.” As odd as it sounds, thank you for finding this loophole and reminding us all that perfect is the enemy of good.

i come back to this video every couple of months, to watch and take a breather, and to imagine a less cluttered life. im a multi-disciplinarily disabled individual, living with roommates (and my 17-year-old cat), in a very expensive town that i do not have the resources to move out of. it wasn't always this way, this expensive. but it is now, and i feel the effects in multiple ways--my head, my heart, my slowly dwindling savings as i struggle to cover even the essentials on my extremely limited income. im constantly overwhelmed these days, and worry about things not getting better. but this video is a breath of fresh air. and as i look around my room, one of several spaces in the house completely overrun by Stuff, i know i need a change. your external environment doesnt HAVE to affect your internal one, but for me...i think it very much does. i am into maximalism, but...what i am doing is not artful and colourful and beautiful, which is what i love about maximalism. it is coming dangerously close to hoarding (but not the disorder, just the act of stockpiling things that you dont need, and a LOT of things, at that). i have very bad and unmedicated adhd (i would never call anyone's adhd bad. except mine. mine is terrible) and spent a significant number of years in fairly extreme poverty (we always had a roof, which i recognise as a huge privilege, but food, essentials, menstrual products, and other things were scarce). this affected me deeply, and now i hold onto almost EVERYTHING that i could imagine has a conceivable use to me, at some imagined point in the future. or i hold onto things for aesthetic reasons, but never use them. another imagined point in the future, where i have my own house to decorate as i please. but things cant go on this way. enoughs enough. tomorrow, im going to start this challenge. and i am going to do my best to see it through. non-chronologically, with grace, support, and sympathy for myself. thanks to you, Leah. thank you for this.

I love how your decluttering is informed by the world you want to live in - a shared and circular economy. Even i felt lighter after seeing your room at the end! I also really appreciated your comments about having the energy to create that change in your space and being centered within yourself - that being more important than the external conditions. 💚

@@leahsfieldnotes From psychiatric pharmacy, keep, dear souls, far away. You want real help for you soul? - then look up into the heavens and cry ABBA FATHER. Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. Psalms 55:16 As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me. Psalms 18:3 I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. Isaiah 55:6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Every time we are after rich and fame, these questions should we ask from ourselves: Mark 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Luke 9:25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? Matthew 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Ecclesiastes 1:3 What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun? If one listens some of the interview of the celebs, then they all have admitted that they become vessels for demonic spirits. It all comes down to these 2 questions: have we eyes which see and ears which hear or are our eyes and ears closed? The devil hides in the details, and the details are to be seen and heard.

You may have heard of the earthquakes in Turkey. We lost 44,000 people so far. My family and I were not harmed in the earthquakes. The day we got the first news, everyone started collecting donations: money aid, diapers, wet wipes, sanitary pads. During this whole process, apart from feeling intense sadness, I also questioned life. What was important in life? Before the earthquake, I had dreams for 2023, for example, what would I get myself and my family with my first salary? I realized that we think that buying something will make our lives better and give us happiness. Better cars, more expensive furniture, etc. However, the time we spend with our loved ones gives us real happiness, and only these memories are meaningful before death. We only think about our experiences and the people we love. That's why we should spend our money on experiences, not things.💙 Thank you for inspiring Leah

Thank you so much for sharing ☺️✨ I had a similar experience after doing half a year of studying abroad. I noticed how happy it made me to have a limited amount of favorite clothing pieces and stationery items to choose from. It felt so freeing to not have limitless options and made it so much more enjoyable to actually use and appreciate the items I did take with me. After coming back I decluttered a few times and I've been feeling a lot more comfortable in my flat since then. I also 100% agree that it's a rough sentiment that you need to declutter around yourself to feel alright. It would sure help, but there were a lot of times in my life when I would have loved to declutter but didn't have the health and physical energy available to. It became so doable once I felt a bit better.

such a beautiful video! You have inspired me to declutter my bathroom cabinets today. The rocks from your travels was too relatable haha. I am the same way -- my mom used to have to empty out my school backpack at the end of the day cause it would be about 3 x times heavier than when I left the house that morning due to all the rocks I collected at school. My dad and I made a 'rock garden' next to our front door and now all the rocks I collect live there. Wild strawberries grow between them in the summer months :)

In Sep I gave up nearly every single thing I owned. We have six suitcases mostly our work computers. We moved across the country. I've purchased very little since and only exactly what we need. I feel so much less stressed, depressed, and overwhelmed.

This video came at such a perfect time! I love the idea of turning it into a "game" and how you chose not to do it chronologically. I've been trying to downsize and live a more minimalist lifestyle in 2023, I'll definitely try this before the end of the year. The point you made of asking yourself if that item is something you'll actually miss is so important! I think a lot of us (myself included) hang on to things out of sentiment or on the off-chance that we'll use it in the future...but then years will go by and we haven't even taken it out. If there's anything I've learned in the past few years, it's that the more stuff I have, the more overwhelmed I feel. When I first started college, I was able to pack everything I owned in 2-3 large boxes. By the end of my undergrad, I had enough stuff to fill two cars. Granted, I did move from a dorm to an apartment but you don't realize how much stuff you accumulate over the years until you actually pack it up. In the age of social media where overconsumption is encouraged, it's good to be conscious of what we actually need vs. the onslaught of what we're told will "make us happy."

I've heard about this before, and I was worried I couldn't find that many items to declutter, so I modified my version to be one thing on the odd days of the month, and two things on the even days of the month... But my partner and I have been talking about decluttering now that we moved into a smaller apartment this winter, so I just made my own cute tracker and I'm excited to give this a try for real this time!

Leah I don't think you realize how much your words can touch and grace souls. I just realized, I've given into the society perspective that a dirty home means a frazzled mind. I've fed into those thoughts and negative narrative to my own being. Thank you for your kind words of love

hi leah! currently watching some bugs living in the weeds of my backyard and felt inspired to comment a random thought that’s been circling in my head. When I get more anxious about my future (continuing school, work, having money, etc), the idea of a slow simple life on a farm seems all the more appealing. I’m hoping I can soon experience the slow life with people I enjoy. That’s all.. have a nice day :>

This was lovely❤ I’m moving to a new city next month. I was feeling very overwhelmed by the clutter I have collected in the past 10 years or so, as an ADHDer with a passion for crafting it has taken over several rooms in my place. I’ll attempt doing this method. It will make the moving out much easier to know my stuff can be used and cared by others. Wish me luck!

Perfect timing for me to watch this informative/lovely video! Thank you! I just emptied my 2 closets and put everything in the living room. I wanted to cry ~ of embarrassment. Putting a HOUSE FOR SALE sign on the front door was an option. Trying your 30 days of decluttering might be more reasonable. Sailing over the "I can't!" hurdles is oddly exciting. I think this is going to be a life changer for me, at age 61.

Nice video :) it found me at a good time, because I am trying to overcome my hoarding. I attach sentimental value to almost everything, but having this much stuff makes me feel overwhelmed and stressed in my own room which should be my peace. I've been struggling trying to create a space that reflects the person I am right now, and not every version of me over the past 20 years. This video was helpful, so thanks! ^_^

I’m 16 and currently have a lot of stuff I genuinely don’t need. I’ve been struggling to get rid of them! Thankfully I came across this video which helps so much! Now I know where to start and how to make it fun. I noticed that I don’t like having a lot of things. Because when I have a lot of things in my room it’s hard for me to keep the place clean. This strategy helps because now I don’t have to spend hours decluttering.

As someone who studies abroad, I know I don't need all the stuff I've got back in my home country. When I go back in February when I move to my next country for an internship, I think I might throw away everything that's still there. Or maybe when I get back in August. Thanks for motivating me to clear out my place as well, Leah!

Something I found out when I did this in my "youth" is that I like having a lot of stuff! There's so many things I regret getting rid of because I wanted to own as little as possible. Now I have it pretty well balanced. I can buy new things, but if it's just going to be hidden in a drawer and never used (or on display), I don't need it.
