Wtf did they think would happen? That a guy who wholeheartedly loves his mother would accept you disrespecting her after she died

well done ! That's the way to show them you are your mothers son !! Bravo. I salute you.

Should have asked the ex how she would have reacted if OP had gone up and equivalently insulted her mother at the event? Oh, wait, we saw exactly how they reacted. They were offended and humiliated that their behavior was outed.

Dude, her and her family flew way too numerous red flags.

Sheets, they were king size sheets of red flags

The insult was in public. The rebuttal needs to be in public also. Any apology should be in PUBLIC.

Any gaslighting of that level is an immediate red flag.

If they can disrespect a dead woman who was kind to them, provided loans they never paid back, etc.... then they 100% will disrespect you once you marry her. OP should have taken some more firm steps to end the engagement, relationship, and her family issues. Block them and have your father send her an email requiring the ring back and that her, her family, and her friends cease all contact with you or your family. Add that if the ring isn't returned, you'll sue her in small claims court and post the judgement online. If they continuing contacting you, you'll contact any guy she gets serious with in the future (and his parents) and tell them exactly why you broke off the engagement.

Have seen and been on the receiving end so similar thinking maybe culture or money. How about regret and shame long before. Red flag being the silence and hush about the favors. Shame is real, self shame devastating and contagious. In this case fun not had by all.

I’m so sorry you had to go through this. Losing a parent is already incredibly painful, and having their memory disrespected by people who are supposed to care about you is unacceptable. It’s concerning that your fiancée and her parents showed such a lack of empathy and respect, especially in front of others. This kind of behavior raises serious questions about their values and whether they truly respect you and your family.

That’s the way to treat a hypocrital and an ungrateful in laws family , for disrespecting a deceased mother , who is not there to defend herself .

Is this a creative writing piece? or is the author trying to present this as something that really happened? I can't tell
