My mother grew up on a farm in the 1920’s and 30’s and was an experienced horsewoman. She brought our family up trying to allow us exposure to horses and other animals from the time we were small children. I’m completely comfortable with just about any animal and love horses even though I’ve never had any myself or lived on a farm. Horses, if they’ve had a chance to experience decent humans, seem to pick up on who is ok and who isn’t pretty quickly, although they also all have their own personalities. I’ve met a few that tried to be dominant and act like assholes when they first met me but, generally, they all got along fine with me once they knew they could trust me.

"Go clean up your poop", 😂😂😂I always tell my cat to clean his litter box, but he doesn't do it either. I have noticed that animals have a very unique sensitivity to people who need that from them. Rud's sweetness with B probably came from both of you subconsciously hoping that things would go well, fear that they might not, and love for each other-that connection that you sometimes have immediately when you meet a soulmate is do special; the only thing more special is to nurture the seed of a soulmate from a being that has been mistreated into a tree of strength that lets them accept and love those who love you like they have come to. It takes your breath away.

The thing about horses is they are smart. They know exactly what someone wants from them. Sometimes a horse just wants a friend. Not a pushy demanding person who always expects a certain reaction. Like tue different between your boss at work and a friend at home. People say my horse doesn't trust me. When in truth it's often the horse doesn't like being trained. I have seen it personally many times.

As long as the horse in your heart knows that the people you bring around him/her are ones that you love or respect, that horse will accept them. Horses know family by how their first human acts with those they bring to them. Horses have these huge hearts that barely fit inside their bodies. That's why they shouldn't be "broke" and only ridden if they say it's OK. Horses will be in heaven .

While I don’t disagree with you - I also don’t think my heart could ever ‘let go’ of Rudnik as my own horse. He’s been with me through some of my darkest days and we’ve been through so much together. While I love the bond he has with B, I don’t think I could ever get another horse for myself. B has said before he’d love to get a little filly that he can raise himself and I think Rudnik has been amazing for getting B introduced into the horse world and their bond will never break - but I don’t think my heart could handle ‘giving’ Rudnik over - he’s healed me so much since I adopted him over 5 years ago ♥️

This sounds odd but I think it's because he acts like another horse. He's giving body signals and asking nothing from Rud. But calmly he's giving off signals Rud understands. That tells you a lot about B’s character without words, because a horse that didn’t trust men trusted him from the first meeting. Animals can tell good people from bad people more than humans can. I’d be a tad jealous of the way he treats B and follows him everywhere.😂 You have two keepers there.

Rudnik could sense that B was a good person,I was always told animals have intuition of you are a good or bad person. I am so happy you did not give up on your love of horses and especially yourself. I think that Rudnik didn't like men because of the previous men whom he had contact with, were familiar with horses and just treated horses the way they were familiar. And Rudnik may have seen that as aggressive and non-caring. However, B knew nothing about horses, but wanted to treat Rudnik well because of his relationship with you. Rudnik could see that B didn't know how to work with horses, but could tell that he was trying. Rudnik might have seen B sort of like as with a child, with whom you must be patient with to help him learn the ways of horse-man interactions. So with Rudnik willing to be patient, and B willing to learn the correct and caring way to treat Rudnik... they both bonded and formed a great relationship for now, and for the long distance future. It was a relationship that both were willing to work on; and it worked out for everyone. And your supprt and understanding was a big part of that. That's my two cents' worth!! 😀😄😃

I haven’t read any comments yet, so if someone has already said this, oh well. But is it possible that Rudnik learned how to be patient and gentle and understanding with B, by how you were with him? Somehow he understood that B was unsure and uneducated, and reacted to him the way you treated Rudnik? I don’t know enough about horses to know if they have that type or level of reasoning ability. But it seems possible to me, without trying to anthropomorphize him.
