There were several of us in the kitchen (they had a big kitchen) and my mother had a orange in her hand and after awhile she was raising it to her mouth and I said “you might want to peel it first” and started laughing. I know she forgot it was a orange, but nope she went all in and said “I like it like this” and proceeded to eat it with the peel on. We were peeing ourselves laughing, because the look of disgust on her face after each bite was hilarious, but she kept trying to be serious. It became our family joke, mom would get serious about something and one of us would say “Joans getting another orange”. 😂 Miss my parents everyday and we got a lot of love and laughter

Story 1: I saw this one before on LG & no matter how many times I do the bf STILL pisses me off so effing bad. Without context you could kind of tell that they weren't good for each other, and it sounded like the BF was making no effort to spend time with his GF and catering to his friend all under the guise of "she was so kind to let us stay at her place, it only makes sense for me to give her more attention". He kept saying in all his replies to people urging him to just let her leave that he "can't let her go"--kinda let it slip it was mostly for financial reasons, but then quickly tried to cover it up with, "I worry about her being on her own" as if she'll do something drastic. Yet, in that same breath, he replies that she on numerous occasions has urged for them to break up, that they aren't right for each other and it's clear he doesn't have time for her. Yet SHE'S the bad guy just for asking that they just split up? After the GF's post, I disliked him EVEN MORE because all his replies made HER seem like the unreasonable and controlling one, when it was actually the opposite. I remember the orange one lol, I always pictured a cow chomping on an orange. I have this bizarre little orange tree in my greenhouse. My grandad planted it 6 years ago i still got no clue what they sre called. They are tiny oranges, the insiis unbearably sour and the peel is super sweet. They cannot be eaten separately and have to be eaten whole.

Last story reminds me of that meme of a guy holding an unpeeled banana that's been clearly bitten into and asking "Do you guys eat your bananas with or without the shell?"

It's crazy how in the beginning Op really was painting the gf as crazy but the more he spoke, the clearer the picture became. He don't even love her, he just wanted a roommate and a charity project. Even his own post screams savior complex. Orange story: I laugh everytime I'm reminded of this story. I'm sorry but I wouldn't want to "keep the peace" either if it requires me to still take a bite into a fucking _orange_ like it's an apple. 😭It sounds like it would be a segment in ICarly or something.

The orange story reminds me of an anecdote I heard on "Real Ghost Stories Online" about the family patriarch who was addicted to tangerines to the point where his farts smelled like them. After he died, they'd smell those tangerine farts and know that he was visiting.

Mark, you need to contact the OP of the Orange Tradition story and ask them to post what they were going to update onto the Mark Narrations subreddit, cuz it got removed from AITA. Hopefully then we can get the full story.

That is an insane situation. He's acting like she's his hostage she describes leaving him as escaping. She had to wait until he was asleep and sneak away. When someone tells you they are done just let them go you can't make someone want to be with you.

For story 2, I can't remember where I heard it, but I heard that certain types of oranges, when grown right and allowed to ripen on tree, can be eaten like an apple and taste super sweet and don't feel "wrong". I can't even remember what types.

2: Beyond the whole question of *why anyone would eat an orange that way,* this is a *weird* hill for the boyfriend and his family to die on. Messy one, too. And *gross.* Like, my paternal grandpa would peel oranges in such a way that left most of the pith on, but he mostly tsked and chided me a bit for wasting a source of nutrients when I refused to eat that part. The man grew up in the Great Depression, so I get him wanting to take advantage of *everything* edible. What OP described is just... how do they not end up squirting orange pulp all over the room?!

Second Story: OP is NTA for standing up for herself. No one has a right to force another to eat something or do something that they don't ant to do. The fact that OP's BF berated her and gaslit her into feeling guilty about not complying with the insane demand is a HUGE red flag. OP needs to consider this a deal breaker. It means that OP's parents rule his life via traditions that they have created. Since she was never forewarned about this weird way of her BF's family means that there are more family traditions that she has not been told of yet. Imagine married life with this overbearing family where OP's SO prioritizes his parents desires over OP's. Imagine who is going to be in control of OP's life and the lives of her future children. GTFO, OP! RUN!

I hope someone can get the update back for us. There was another deleted update that I would love to see about a story of someone who found their current dog some years ago and recently got contacted by the original owner and wanted the dog back (dog went lost after a house fire) and the OP (current owner) didn't want to give it back.

Growing up with orange groves around us we sometimes ate oranges with the peel still in. Not navel because the peel and pith is too thick and too acidic so it will make your tongue numb for most of the day. The smaller sweeter orange varieties with thin peel are so delicious when eaten whole, it’s like adding orange zest and pulp to a glass of orange juice. But In moderation because it is more acidic eaten that way however good it tastes 🍊 ❤

I'll admit, I had the same reaction as the orange OP when I found out that was how you eat a kumquat. The school I work at gives the kids unusual fruit (for my area, like rambutan and lychee) as afternoon snacks. The kids weren't sure bc they had seen classmates bite into them like apples, so I googled it for them and then tried it myself. Turns out kumquats have a sweet rind and a sour inside

I worked with some guys who would eat the whole orange peel and all. Thought it was strange but, to each his own!! I always find the rind of oranges extremely bitter. Maybe to some people they are not. Who knows??? We all have different tastes.
