My Fire Damaged R8 - Write off or Reparable?

Saw your car last week mate at Reperformance and it was obvious it was going to get written off sadly. You should definitely get another R8 but get Ricky to help you - I’m sure he knows lots of customers that are looking to sell or will at least know the history of any that are on sale. You should harvest the wheels and the tires for use on your future R8, or sell them if you decide not getting another one. There are so many parts you can salvage from that car and reselling them later.

Sorry to hear your sad news, I know how much you liked this car! Dealing with insurance is also a bloody nightmare always! For that money get a Porsche Spyder, more reliable and a great drive! ........but ultimately it’s gonna be your choice!, good luck with it all👍

Ben I really feel sorry for you. I unfortunately had a similar experience 2 weeks ago. After searching for 1.5 years, I found my dream Porsche and bought in in Munich. On that day I had "transport plates" as we call them in Germany. Which means, you are allowed to drive the car home, but nowhere else. AND, the car is uninsured for that day. Unfortunately 40mins after buying my Dream Porsche, I had an Aquaplaning accident. Luckily no damage to my dad or me. But the car was totaled and I had to realize, that I threw a huge chunk of money down the drain for my dream car, which I crashed. Unluckily for me, I'm not getting any money back. But I'm very glad that you are healthy and okay! Sad video because I really wanted to follow your R8 journey.

I'd be looking at legal action against the people who did the repairs to the injectors. If the enigeneer has said this was the cause then you've got decent grounds for legal action have you spoken to the dealer who did the work and said you're looking into it? Send them the engineers report and ask what they're going to do about it

Ah man I'm actually gutted 😫 all the time and money spent on it and this was the outcome. Another R8 to replace it would be ideal though 💪🏻

I've owned both the F-Type V6S and F-Type V8R AWD convertible and they have been amazing, the V8R (pre-2017) are a very loud car standard, a proper hooligan car and it will feel way quicker and torquier then the R8. I recently sold it for a profit (amongst all the price craziness at the moment) and bought a brand new Supra which has been amazing and might be something to consider as they're a bargain. That said I think a cheaper R8 is a good shout, I've just bought another Z4MC after having one in the past, so that I can hoon that around guilt free as opposed to outright abusing my Supra xD So a high miler, cheaper guilt free R8 sounds like a plan imo, people love to see a bit of a project.

Absolutely gutted it’s a write off. So sorry to hear! :( Personally would go for the Jag, beautiful car! Avoid that fear of being sat in another R8 that you’ll be thinking is going to kick the bucket. Then come back to it at a later date perhaps when more comfortable. All the best with whatever you choose!

Might be a silly question, are you able to salvage bits off it before it’s scrapped? What happens to things like the alloys, new tyres, bits that aren’t damaged?

Gutted for you Ben, with the assessor putting that as the cause this might just drag on and on and on while everyone argues about liability before you see any money. Hopefully this is not the case but my experience with insurance companies is not a favorable one when they have wiggle room of avoiding paying out.

Buy the salvage back from the insurer, you will get a great deal and then resurrect the beast. Did it myself years ago and did the work, that was also fire damaged

Considering the issues of reliability with the R8 I will go for Jaguar F type V6s and invest the change. We move to the next episode of F Type or buy another R8
