yup pretty much, i mean RT isn't bad but if you just go with normal performance the 7900xt is good. That is also nice since not all games have RT or optimized for it. 4090=best performance come with a big $$ though ill say you'll end up spending around 2.5k-3.5k depending on what you will need to get for it to run ex: case, psu, cables, cpu. 7900xtx is good value card since you get a good performance increase but just not as much as to say destroys the 4080/close to 4090. but i mean you are getting it around $200-500 less depending on models.

As a 15 years old Nvidia user I can say I've got my very first AMD video card and I'm impressed. It was a really tough decision, considering that the prices are already insane. Besides the RT that I have to turn it off in many titles anyway to achieve 120FPS @1440p (I prefer high refresh rate over "ultra" settings), I don't see the benefit of spending $250 more for a 4080 when at rasterization 7900XTX wins in most titles.

As a mainly AMD cpu and some Intel cpu user and mainly Nvidia GPU user: 1) All GPUs have game/driver issues upon launch 2) I feel the 7900XTX should be ~$849-899 price point 3) Nvidia can and will, I feel, drop the RTX4080 pricing ….. which may force AMD to drop its pricing in point 2 here. 4) AMD has made vg improvements to its FSR 2.1-2.2 performance and image quality as well as its Ray Tracing from last generation which is great to see. 5) I hope that the Rx7000 series shown here is only just driver issues and optimisations and not an Intel Arc hardware issue. 6) we’ve seen AMDs “fine wine” approach throughout its GPU history and give it a few months and we’ll see good driver optimisations etc.

Ordered one of these now, and this video is perfect at explaining why it was a no brainer over an nvidia card: price to performance. Nvidia cards may be more powerful slightly in most titles, but they are still much too highly priced for the higher end variants considering the closeness. To have a card costing hundreds less slapping nvidia around on price to performance is just shameful. If Nvidia stopped ripping consumers off, then it'd easily flip the other way.

Definitely play around with the overclocking on the AIB 7900XTX cards with 3x 8 pin power sockets as they have insane overclocking potential, reports of up to 3.7 GHz but mostly around 3.2 GHz stable. I would steer clear from the reference models and AIB models that got only 2x 8 pin for this reason.

I always like when these new products are put in perspective. Anyway, since I simply can't condone with the prices of the flagship cards, all I want is that AMD improve (and isn't uncommon that these review results become obsolete while the card goes through the usual "AMD FineWine" process), and they release a 7800, so I can buy a 6800-ish card for a better price.

Hum, balanced... While not unfair in the sense that she's consistent in using the highest possible setting in games you can definitely tell that she has had more experience with Nvidia titles lately then AMD in that she prefers testing with ray tracing on as it's a tech that's heavily favoring Nvidia simply because AMD and their customers don't consider RT, or especially heavy RT implementations as important. AMD is on board with RT growing in importance though. AMD gives you more bang for your bucks but you may need to play with settings at times, something AMD fans are used to, i part because of all the times Nvidia has tried to sabotage AMD with game dev tools that intentionally harms gaming performance for gamers of both brands, but hurts AMD more then Nvidia without improving performance, like the extreme tesselation a few generations ago. Ray tracing *does* have visible effects so it's not outright sabotage this time around. Nvidia has a valid advantage there and it *does* make games look better. But you can get a perfectly good experience with some RT enhancement without pushing RT to the limit. And for people using "high" instead of "ultra" with some RT instead of the highest possible RT that's where you'll get AMDs strength. And yes, that means that when these cards start to get old you'll probably want to turn off RT altogether. But these cards will still end up lasting us longer in the long run before they're unable to give us a good experience in games. While Nvidia gives us better settings here and now you'll get less memory and less rasterstion performance and your gaming experience in the long run will suffer as a result. Still, I appreciate her doing these maxed out tests, they give us another data point that you rarely see. And that's useful in itself, even if it's not all that realistic in day to day use.
@slavefeet57
@slavefeet57 Жыл бұрын
@@Luredreier I was happy to see the 4k settings, Like you said though it was pretty obvious with testing only in Ultra RT on. I'd love to see the titles run again without RT on in 4k Ultra settings. Because that's likely how I would run it when my build is finished. I'm debating on getting the 2k 200hz Oled, or the 4k 144hz Mini LED both from LG. I really think the 7900XTX will be able to pump out the frames to max either one. Obviously I feel like it should be able to Max out the Frame rate at 2k, I'm not sure how close it would be on 4k 144hz. Who knows I may just buy both monitors and see how I feel about them lol

Almost every tech channel is reviewing the reference design, so it would be interesting to see the overclocking performance of the non reference TUF version. There are some articles saying the non reference cards were able to draw around 400W (overclocked) because of the extra power connected, but also go up to 3.7GHz (3.2GHz stable).

Just seeing the CoD:MW2 results lets me know that it's going to be another "fine wine" generation. The dual media engine, and it's software is fire right now though, and that bodes well for AMD's purchase of Xilinx making the FPGA side of things much better. Example: I was just transcoding 8 inputs simultaneously, and that's something that I couldn't do before. It's good to have competition, and great to have options. Now I hope to see pricing shifts to benefit the rest of the community. This generation is going to get very interesting by the time we see the low end.

2:55 a quick note about the DiaplayPort 1.4 on nvidia vs 2.1 on amd; nvidia "gsync premium" displays (like the $1300 alienware AW3423DW) do not allow any speeds faster than vanilla DP1.4 will allow because they do not support Display Stream Compression (DSC). and that causes a lot of limitations. for example, you can't run 3440x1440 monitor at 10 bit color sRGB at over 150Hz. to go faster you either have to drop down to 8bit color or YCbCr422 color format to go faster than that. if nvidia put DP 2.1 ports on their new $1200+ GPUs, it would put them into a situation where their customers would be mad at them because their new $1000+ nvidia branded monitors don't work with said GPUs. it was an intentional sabotage to avoid bad PR if you must buy nvidia, the solution is simple: make sure you get a monitor that IS NOT g-sync premium compatible. make sure that whatever monitor you get has zero nvidia hardware in it that way you can use DSC. in that case the version of the DP won't matter anyway. DP 1.4 with DSC can do 3440x1440 10bit @ 200Hz, 4k 10 bit @120hz, or 4k 8bit @160Hz.

The ASUS' Nvidia 4000 series cards have 2 HDMI 2.1 ports which makes them more attractive for those of us who are using OLED TVs for monitors since DP isn't compatible with the display. A good chunk of people who would be interested in buying this class of card are probably using similar displays, making HDMI the preferred option. So kind of disappointed to only see 1 HDMI on the AMD card.

Turning Ray tracing on with either card leads to a massive performance hit. If you like using it though go with NVIDIA, they still offer better performance over AMD on titles that support it. Although the new cards do offer much improved performence here than the last generation so it's good to see them at least on par with last gen NVIDIA. In pure rasterization though, the XTX will beat the 4080 almost all the time and by a good margin in some instances. Personally I don't turn RT on ever. The visual improvement is still not worth the performance hit on anything less than the absurdly priced 4090.

Using rasterization the RX 7900 XTX can match or outperform the RTX 4800. However, once Raytracing is enabled the RX 7900 XTX falls behind. AMD needs to concentrate their GPU efforts in this direction for the future. Still, at the price point set by AMD it is a great gaming card, especially when you compare it to the last gen AMD GPU flagship. The TastyPC review is right on the money.

Bad drivers are holding it back, but with that performance it should either be named the 7800XTX or the 7900XT. The 7900XTX would need to be equal or beat the 4090 in some games in my opinion. Hopefully driver updates will make it perform a lot better.
@docfornix
@docfornix 2 жыл бұрын
Price and local availability are of prime interest here if you ask me. Yes, in particular in RayTracing titles the 4080 has the upper hand, but it comes at a cost. The current cheapest 4080 available in my country comes at roughly 200 Eur more than what AMD sells the 7900 XTX for. With that said, the 7900 XTX falls more in line with a few remaining 3080 Ti's and several of the more highly priced 3080's, even some 3070 Ti's are offered in this price range. And when compared to those, the 7900 XTX certainly offers more bang for buck. So the question is really, just how much is one willing to spend on a single piece of hardware. If the sky's the limit, neither the 7900 XTX nor RTX 4080 are of any interest. Just go for the RTX 4090, it's a clear winner. If there are certain budget constrains, or it's just more of a mindset thing not willing to pay too much on a GPU, albeit subjectively of course, a 7900 XTX may be a better pick than an RTX 4080. Lastly, but most certainly worth mentioning. In terms of a wider range of benchmarks with this card, your selection of games is a bit sided in Nvidia's favor due to the high emphasis on Raytracing and it's usage. If you look at the performance results with Raytracing off, the 7900 XTX much more often prevails as winner. And here it of course becomes a bit of a personal choice, what do you want out of a card? Most optimum graphical results? Then yes, Raytracing is interesting. If on the other hand, you simply want the best performance, highest raw FPS rates, then the 7900 XTX may at a greater number of occasions be the number one pick when comparing the 7900 XTX versus RTX 4080. In other words, if instead of best graphics you want best performance next to the RTX 4090 prices, the 7900 XTX appears to be the way to go. As interesting as all this is though, what I personally find much more interesting to see is the generational leap AMD keeps making. The 5700 XT being somewhere on line with the 2060/2060S, the 6900 XT somewhere in between the 3070 Ti and 3080 and now the 7900 XTX being along the lines of the 4080, in particular in terms of rasterization performance. It obviously comes to question if/when we'll see a 7950 or other higher-end AMD card still. But with the current leaps of improvement AMD is making the next generation will possibly become a head-on competition between AMD and Nvidia for the number 1 spot, if Nvidia doesn't up its game.

I don't know. Her testing methodology is consistent in using the highest possible setting. But remember that most people don't play with those settings, simply because they don't make sense, and that isn't what the game devs are aiming for or what their vision is either. People play with a "high" setting. And that's where AMD stretches its legs. AMD customers are used to playing with settings because of all the shenanigans that Nvidia has played through the years. So we care more about how good of an experience we can get for a given amount of money. And there AMD gives us a better value, even if that's means a slightly lower RT setting.

@@Luredreier Interesting perspective and observation. No doubt, for most ray tracing is a highly overrated feature. Nothing really stood out to me. I don't think this was the most thorough review of those I watched but I did find her conclusions to be really sound. Perhaps it's just a matter of me running everything through my own biased filters, which we pretty much all do to at least some extent. I think one of the issues when discussing technology hardware, especially where the results of benchmarks are not clear-cut across the board, is that everyone has different priorities and expectations.

There's definitely driver issues given reports of high power consumption at idle and AMD's always had unexpected issues like this that would usually take around 6 months to improve at least historically. However these frankly wouldn't be appealing even with such potential updates imo as they are lacking in compute/non-gaming workloads even outside CUDA (which they can't utilize anyway since that's NVIDIA's proprietary one). I get the pricing could be due to R&D as this is the first chiplet based GPUs but still.

If I could run Stable Diffusion with these cards then I'd just build all AMD systems from here on out, but it's looking like I'll still need at least one Nvidia GPU, or accelerator for my workflow. For me I'd choose the 4080. The reason for this is because I believe in the future more and more games will adopt heavier and heavier ray tracing implementations. Especially after the consoles get their mid-generation "pro" version refresh. This would mean that the card that can ray trace better should age better. However, I don't have a crystal ball and there's no way for me to know what the future actually holds. Traditionally AMD cards age better. So it's really up to you to weigh everything up and make a judgement call.
