One thing I didn't make clear in the video is that my frequency numbers are the average over 60s in Control. A different title would give me different results, for example the benchmark stable OC setting has the card hitting 3.2GHz in Unigine Valley. 6:21 - I meant to say "slower timings" but said "lower timings" which would mean the opposite *facepalm*

Yes indeed, we have seen this prevalently this since Nvidia bringing in first generation RT with Turing. When you load RT cores on a GPU it has a different effect on the GPU clock rate, board power and stability compared with than traditional rasterised rendering workloads.

I really love the presentation on this video, I’ve never bothered with under-volting or power tweaks, and I’ve not noticed anyone else discuss them, but this was really useful in explaining the effects of each tweak. You’d never see top tier production quality like this on LTT either, it’s just so pleasant to watch

Thank you for the video. People do seem to be hoping that the OC potential of the 7900 XTX, will deliver those performance gains promised by AMD. That is, significantly ahead of the 4080 in raster, while bridging some of the gap in RT. However, the 4080 is also no slouch in OC, so even a 10-15% gain for the XTX will only go so far against an OC'd 4080, which gains 8-9%. Maybe driver updates will help a bit, but any way we look at it, a maxed out and optimized XTX will likely remain at most 10-15% ahead of a maxed out 4080 in raster, and 15-25% behind in RT.

This is by far the most detailed video in terms of OC / UV ive found yet. Many things are considered. Silicon. Benchmark setting. Daily use. Often i read so much BS that people do 3,4 ghz with 1.025 Mv...yeah that might work on a benchmark run with 100% fan speed. But not in daily gaming with 20 differents games. Dont get me wrong...something can happen. But people tend to read the graphs also wrong. When your GPU hits for 2 seconds the 3.4 GHZ that also doenst mean that card does an average of 3.4 Ghz. This is by far the most detailed video in terms of OC / UV ive found yet. Many things are considered. Silicon. Benchmark setting. Daily use.

I heard if you find the right min clock, you can gain additional performance with that card. So keep your UV/OC settings and just try different min clocks, maybe you can squeeze more out of it. TBH you did a great job tuning this card, i am impressed :-)

I've seen more stable and sustained higher clocks when raising the min clock, but when drawing more power like with ray tracing it might require a different OC profile. You can find balance in between the two, But for best overclocks you will need to different profiles

Extremely thorough but concise demo of how to OC. This has been the first daily AMD card I'll be using ever (I have built and OC'd some AMD cards for others though) and I've got my Nitro+ to about 15% increase and mostly stable (there are some productivity program that aren't liking the OC but I have a dual bios and can just switch if it continues I guess). I'm much happier with this card then my last daily card which was a RTX 2070 and vey happy with the upgrade.

This is the best OC/UV video I’ve watched. I learned so much. This is my first AMD card, and I’m trying to tune my OC to get the most out of it. Thought I finally found some really good OC settings, but just crashed after a few hours of trying different games. Hopefully I can go back to using these settings after some driver updates. When overclocking an AMD GPU, you should set min freq 100 mhz less than the max freq. It doesn't mean power draw will increase but feel smoother while gaming. excellent oc guide btw

With rdna3 you can have a 600mhz gap. So yea 3200max with 2600min

Amazing info and tutorial. Heard a lot of talk about undervolting and always - why - both undervolt and overclock - overclock we need all the juice we can get. But those numbers here - that is the truth. I have 6900 xt - I need to look into this undervolt thing !! These AMD cards deserves more credit - but agree - this is not for all people to mess with. AMD cards are build for overclock - they also said this at the presentation. But a better one click overclock / best settings would be nice. AMD are for people that like to tweak. Subscribed to this one. I like when people explains and cut things out in stone - not that I'm slow in this - but I liked the pace and way of doing here. Good work !

You hit all the check marks! If you could include or just mention your Temps with each test it would be very helpful, AMD cards seem very temp sensitive, I imagine the Tuff card didnt run to hot.

Temps were not high at any point in the testing, so I didn't have much to talk about there, but I did talk about fan speed and show an in-game overlay which includes temperature towards the end. :)

​@@MoeKoopa Not sure what the TJ Maxx on the new cards is but it doesnt really seem to apply like it use to. I have a 6900 xt and the lower I could undervolt and the lower I could keep the Temps the better it performed. It wasnt getting super hot to begin with maybe mid 70s hot spot. Getting that hot spot down into the low 60s made a crazy difference and the TJ maxx on those was around 95c I think. Like I said above AMD card seem very temp sensititve.

One thing I will add is that hwinfo and GPUz will report a higher frequency. Your guide is great. I have hit 3.3 on air but turned it back down. I have a waterblock ordered for the red devil version so hopefully I can hit 3.5.

Undervolting is usually not a good idea. Any electronic item will have severely shortened lifespan if undervolted. If the power grid undervolts more than 5%, its estimated that every chip based electronic device that does not have a boost ability will literally halve in lifespan. A 20% undervolt in the electric grid can damage electronics permanently within an hour. Heat is not as much as a problem. Chips can be rated to 100 celsius and still work for 10 years.

About the 3200mhz OC online, for some reason you can push the peak frequency in AMD cards by setting the minimum frequency slider to -100mhz of the maximum slider, thats how they actually push those clocks, give it a try

I found anything above 2450MHz on that slider caused significant instability which is why I left it stock for this video.

At certain speeds and there's a negative impact to RAM speed due to power limit. When the GPU speed reaches those speeds the RAM speed will actually reduce clock.

Temps would've been an interesting plot point as well as power draw in general. Really looking forward to AMD further improving things with drivers. XTX seems like a pretty legit card, when they get the weird idle power use in check, that was mad. I kind of don't need a space heater for now :D

Mine idles at around 45 to 50 watts at 4k 138Hz. However, wallpaper engine makes it jump to around 115 watts.

Excellent oc video. I have the same settings almost, granted my card can undervolt stable a little better. I like how u give the actual stable daily gaming settings. Most video always boast about how high they pushed their cards but it isnt stable or pushing too high results in performance loss. After all this, it seems like 7900 series cards hits a brick wall with oc and has deminishing returns. Extra 100watts just for a few fps increase doesnt seem worth the extra heat and cost of power. I left mines undervolt and power limit neg 10. Only draws 320watts with very few fps loss vs stock.

Amazing video! Really well put together and presentation. I just orders parts for my first AMD build in possibly 15+ years and have 7900xts and 7700x to build in the next week as all the parts come in. Searching videos on youtube showing off this card I cam across yours and by far best demonstration of OC'ing this card i've seen and will totally use your method later when I'm ready to sit down and test my card. It's just a sapphire 7900xtx, not a special OC card so not sure it'll have as good of a boost as yours but will find out.

I had no idea about the fast memory setting. Using your method: Time Spy Score: 27,084 Voltage mV: 1032 GPU Max Mhz:3055 Vram Max Mhz: 2656 Fast Timing Enabled Power Limit %: 15 and still tinkering. Fast timing alone picked up 700 in score
